Multi-Stream Temporally Enhanced Network for Video Salient Object Detection

Video salient object detection(VSOD)aims at locating the most attractive objects in a video by exploring the spatial and temporal features.VSOD poses a challenging task in computer vision,as it involves processing complex spatial data that is also influenced by temporal dynamics.Despite the progress made in existing VSOD models,they still struggle in scenes of great background diversity within and between frames.Additionally,they encounter difficulties related to accumulated noise and high time consumption during the extraction of temporal features over a long-term duration.We propose a multi-stream temporal enhanced network(MSTENet)to address these problems.It investigates saliency cues collaboration in the spatial domain with a multi-stream structure to deal with the great background diversity challenge.A straightforward,yet efficient approach for temporal feature extraction is developed to avoid the accumulative noises and reduce time consumption.The distinction between MSTENet and other VSOD methods stems from its incorporation of both foreground supervision and background supervision,facilitating enhanced extraction of collaborative saliency cues.Another notable differentiation is the innovative integration of spatial and temporal features,wherein the temporal module is integrated into the multi-stream structure,enabling comprehensive spatial-temporal interactions within an end-to-end framework.Extensive experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance on five benchmark datasets while maintaining a real-time speed of 27 fps(Titan XP).Our code and models are available at https://***/ruJiaLe/MSTENet.

Analyses of stable isotopes(C,O,H)in tree rings are increasingly important cross-disciplinary programs.The rapid development in this field documented in an increasing number of publications requires a comprehensive review.This study includes a bibliometric analysis-based review to better understand research trends in tree ring stable isotope research.Overall,1475 publications were selected from the Web of Science Core Collection for 1974-2023.The findings are that:(1)numbers of annual publications and citations increased since 1974.From 1974 to 1980,there were around two relevant publications per year.However,from 2020 to 2022,this rose sharply to 109 publications per year.Likewise,average article citations were less than four per year before 1990,but were around four per article per year after 2000;(2)the major subjects using tree ring stable isotopes include forestry,geosciences,and environmental sciences,contributing to 42.5%of the total during 1974-2023;(3)the top three most productive institutions are the Chinese Academy of Sciences(423),the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest,Snow and Landscape Research(227),and the University of Arizona(204).These achievements result from strong collaborations;(4)review papers,for example,(Dawson et al.,Annu Rev Ecol Syst 33:507-559,2002)and(McCarroll and Loader,Quat Sci Rev 23:771-801,2004),are among the most cited,with more than 1000 citations;(5)tree ring stable isotope studies mainly focus on climatology and ecology,with atmospheric CO_(2) one of the most popular topics.Since 2010,precipitation and drought have received increasing attention.Based on this analysis,the research stages,key findings,debated issues,limitations and direc-tions for future research are summarized.This study serves as an important attempt to understand the progress on the use of stable isotopes in tree rings,providing scientific guid-ance for young researchers in this field.

Current and Potential Roles of Ferroptosis in Bladder Cancer

Ferroptosis,a type of regulated cell death driven by iron-dependent lipid peroxidation,is mainly initiated by extramitochondrial lipid peroxidation due to the accumulation of iron-dependent reactive oxygen species.Ferroptosis is a prevalent and primitive form of cell death.Numerous cellular metabolic processes regulate ferroptosis,including redox homeostasis,iron regulation,mitochondrial activity,amino acid metabolism,lipid metabolism,and various disease-related signaling pathways.Ferroptosis plays a pivotal role in cancer therapy,particularly in the eradication of aggressive malignancies resistant to conventional treatments.Multiple studies have explored the connection between ferroptosis and bladder cancer,focusing on its incidence and treatment outcomes.Several biomolecules and tumor-associated signaling pathways,such as p53,heat shock protein 1,nuclear receptor coactivator 4,RAS-RAF-MEK,phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase-AKT-mammalian target of rapamycin,and the Hippo-tafazzin signaling system,exert a moderating influence on ferroptosis in bladder cancer.Ferroptosis inducers,including erastin,artemisinin,conjugated polymer nanoparticles,and quinazolinyl-arylurea derivatives,hold promise for enhancing the effectiveness of conventional anticancer medications in bladder cancer treatment.Combining conventional therapeutic drugs and treatment methods related to ferroptosis offers a promising approach for the treatment of bladder cancer.In this review,we analyze the research on ferroptosis to augment the efficacy of bladder cancer treatment.

Essential oils improve nursery pigs' performance and appetite via modulation of intestinal health and microbiota

Optimal intestinal health and functionality are essential for animal health and performance,and simultaneously intestinal nutrient transporters and intestinal peptides are also involved in appetite and feed intake control mechanisms.Given the potential of essential oil (EO) in improving animal performance and improving feed palatability,we hypothesized that dietary supplementation of cinnamaldehyde and carvacrol could improve performance and appetite of nursery pigs by modulating intestinal health and microbiota.Cinnamaldehyde (100 mg/kg),carvacrol (100 mg/kg),and their mixtures(including 50 mg/kg cinnamaldehyde and 50 mg/kg carvacrol) were supplemented into the diets of 240 nursery pigs for 42 d,and data related to performance were measured.Thereafter,the influence of EO on intestinal health,appetite and gut microbiota and their correlations were explored.EO supplementation increased (Pructure and appetite-related hormones.These findings indicate that EO is effective in promoting growth performance and nutrient absorption as well as in regulating appetite by improving intestinal health and bacterial structure.

Design to enhance sensing performance of ZIF-8 crystals

Metal-organic frameworks（MOFs） are a large class of crystalline porous materials that composed of organic ligands and metal ions,of which zeolitic imidazolate frameworks（ZIFs） are a broad classification.The most wellknown ZIF-like material is ZIF-8 crystals,which have been the subject of extensive research for decades.ZIF-8 crystals have been synthesized under various conditions for application in the fields of sensing,drug delivery,and catalysis.This paper provides a brief introduction to the preparation methods,formation processes,and formation mechanisms of ZIF-8 crystals in different media,and then explains the effects of different precursor conditions(type of Zn2+,ratio of raw materials,and type of solvent) on ZIF-8 crystals in terms of formation mechanisms.Subsequently,current reports on the application of ZIF-8-based chemiresistive gas sensors,electrochemical,fluorescent and colorimetric sensors are also summarized.Hopefully,ZIF-8 crystals with good catalytic properties will be obtained based on rational design for promoting the application in different fields of the sensors.

Background:Risk assessment and treatment stratification for three-vessel coronary disease(TVD)remain challenging.This study aimed to investigate the prognostic value of left atrial volume index(LAVI)with the Synergy Between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery(SYNTAX)score II,and its association with the long-term prognosis after three strategies(percutaneous coronary intervention[PCI],coronary artery bypass grafting[CABG],and medical therapy[MT])in patients with TVD.Methods:This study was a post hoc analysis of a large,prospective cohort of patients with TVD in China,that aimed to determine the long-term outcomes after PCI,CABG,or optimal MT alone.A total of 8943 patients with TVD were consecutively enrolled between 2004 and 2011 at Fuwai Hospital.A total of 7818 patients with available baseline LAVI data were included in the study.Baseline,procedural,and follow-up data were collected.The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(MACCE),which was a composite of all-cause death,myocardial infarction(MI),and stroke.Secondary endpoints included all-cause death,cardiac death,MI,revascularization,and stroke.Long-term outcomes were evaluated among LAVI quartile groups.Results:During a median follow-up of 6.6 years,a higher LAVI was strongly associated with increased risk of MACCE(Q3:hazard ratio[HR]1.20,95%confidence interval[CI]1.06-1.37,P=0.005;Q4:HR 1.85,95%CI 1.64-2.09,P<0.001),all-cause death(Q3:HR 1.41,95%CI 1.17-1.69,P<0.001;Q4:HR 2.54,95%CI 2.16-3.00,P<0.001),and cardiac death(Q3:HR 1.81,95%CI 1.39-2.37,P<0.001;Q4:HR 3.47,95%CI 2.71-4.43,P<0.001).Moreover,LAVI significantly improved discrimination and reclassification of the SYNTAX score II.Notably,there was a significant interaction between LAVI quartiles and treatment strategies for MACCE.CABG was associated with lower risk of MACCE than MT alone,regardless of LAVI quartiles.Among patients in the fourth quartile,PCI was associated with significantly increased risk of cardiac death compared with CABG(HR

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Huashi Baidu Granules(HSBD)in treating patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)Omicron variant.Methods:A single-center retrospective cohort study was conducted during COVID-19 Omicron epidemic in the Mobile Cabin Hospital of Shanghai New International Expo Center from April 1st to May 23rd,2022.All COVID-19 patients with asymptomatic or mild infection were assigned to the treatment group(HSBD users)and the control group(non-HSBD users).After propensity score matching in a 1:1 ratio,496 HSBD users of treatment group were matched by propensity score to 496 non-HSBD users.Patients in the treatment group were administrated HSBD(5 g/bag)orally for 1 bag twice a day for 7 consecutive days.Patients in the control group received standard care and routine treatment.The primary outcomes were the negative conversion time of nucleic acid and negative conversion rate at day 7.Secondary outcomes included the hospitalized days,the time of the first nucleic acid negative conversion,and new-onset symptoms in asymptomatic patients.Adverse events(AEs)that occurred during the study were recorded.Further subgroup analysis was conducted in vaccinated(378 HSBD users and 390 non-HSBD users)and unvaccinated patients(118 HSBD users and 106 non-HSBD users).Results:The median negative conversion time of nucleic acid in the treatment group was significantly shortened than the control group[3 days(IQR:2-5 days)vs.5 days(IQR:4-6 days);P<0.01].The negative conversion rate of nucleic acid in the treatment group were significantly higher than those in the control group at day 7(91.73%vs.86.90%,P=0.014).Compared with the control group,the hospitalized days in the treatment group were significantly reduced[10 days(IQR:8-11 days)vs.11 days(IQR:10.25-12 days);P<0.01].The time of the first nucleic acid negative conversion had significant differences between the treatment and control groups[3 days(IQR:2-4 days)vs.5 days(IQR:4-6 days);P<0.01].The incidence of new-onset sym

Underground Pipeline Surveillance with an Algorithm Based on Statistical Time-Frequency Acoustic Features

Underground pipeline networks suffer from severe damage by earth-moving devices due to rapid urbanization.Thus,designing a round-the-clock intelligent surveillance system has become crucial and urgent.In this study,we develop an acoustic signal-based excavation device recognition system for underground pipeline protection.The front-end hardware system is equipped with an acoustic sensor array,an Analog-to-Digital Converter(ADC)module(ADS1274),and an industrial processor Advanced RISC Machine(ARM)cortex-A8 for signal collection and algorithm implementation.Then,a novel Statistical Time-Frequency acoustic Feature(STFF)is proposed,and a fast Extreme Learning Machine(ELM)is adopted as the classifier.Experiments on real recorded data show that the proposed STFF achieves better discriminative capability than the conventional acoustic cepstrum features.In addition,the surveillance platform is applicable for encountering big data owing to the fast learning speed of ELM.

Simultaneous determination of 6 carbamate pesticides and relevant metabolites in oilseeds and oil with the modified fast QuEChERS method by ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry

A sensitive and reliable method was developed and validated for the simu1taneous determination of 6 carbamate pesticides and relevant metabolites based on the modified fast QuEChERS(quick,easy,cheap,effective,rugged and safe)method combined with ultra-performance 1iquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(UPLC-MS/MS).The method was also applied in the analysis of 23 commonly consumed oilseeds and oil samples.The sample was extracted with acetonitrile for three times and then the extracted solution was filtered directly though 250 mg precipitated silica adsorbent(PSA)and 250 mg Cis The mobile phase was water(containing 0.1%formic acid)and acetonitrile.The extemal standard protocols were adopted to validate the method in terms of recovery,1inearity,precision,sensitivity,and relative standard deviation(RSD)under the optimized conditions.The linear calibration curves with different ranges were established with R^(2)>0.9973,limit of detections(LODs)ranged from 0.100μg/kg to 20000μg/kg and limit of quantitations(LOQs)ranged from 0.300μg/kg to 6.000μg/kg.The LODs meets the detection requirement for the maximum residue limits in practical samples.Meanwhile,the recoveries ranged from 60.2%to 116.6%with associated RSDs ranged from 0.33%to 5.35%in 10 oilseeds matrices and ranged from 61.9%to 116.9%with RSDs ranged from 0.30%to 5.02%in 13 oil matrices.These features do make the UPLC-MSMS an ideal analytical platform for accurate and high throughput analysis of carbamates residues in the complex matrix.

Dear Editor,Secondary penile cancer is an extremely rare condition that refers to the metastasis of other malignancies to the penis.There are limited reports on secondary penile cancer in Asian populations,and perceptions about this disease are extremely scarce.We reviewed and analyzed the data of patients diagnosed with secondary penile cancer based on the pathological findings at Peking University First Hospital in Beijing,China,aiming to expand the clinical reference for this rare disease.
