Jatropha curcas brings attention across the developing world for biodiesel production since it grows in tropical and subtropical climates with no other competing food uses. This crop is gaining popularity in Mexico for biofuel production. Currently, there are not many reports on the native varieties and their yield to estimate the feasibility of the particular genetic resource to use it as an economic crop. So in this part of work an agronomical evaluation of yield, oil content, fatty acid types and biodiesel conversion from the two native varieties of Jatropha curcas from Mexico were compared while being produced in the same agro-climatic condition. The varieties used were based on the phorbol ester content like toxic and nontoxic varieties collected from Yucatan and Veracruz. It was found that the oil content in the seeds of toxic variety was 57% and oil content of the nontoxic variety was 54% and also the seed yield is higher. The fatty acid content also varies among the two varieties like 21% and 23% in toxic and nontoxic varieties respectively. Again in the nontoxic variety the content of monosaturated fatty acid was higher, which suggests that better quality biodiesel may be expected from this genotype. Transestrification of the two kinds of oil was done using KOH as a catalyst, but no significant difference was observed in the conversion of biodiesel among the two types of oil from the two genotypes.

Spirulina is an edible algae and has a wide range of pharmaceutical applications in addition to its nutritional value. Isolation and identification of several Spirulina species were conducted in the western part of Mexico especially in the state of Jalisco. The purification strategy consisted of five optimized processing steps: 1) washing and centrifugation, 2) chemical treatment, 3) micromanipulation, 4) serial dilution, and 5) plating. Four species were isolated from different locations and two out of these four species were identified taxonomically up to the species level: Spirulina subsalsa and S. major. For short term conservation (30 days), the strains were maintained in liquid and solid agar medium at 10?C and 4?C. For medium term (few months), they were preserved in solid medium under a dried condition as agar flakes and for long term, cryopreservation was employed by using 5% and 10% DMSO, glycerol and methanol as osmoprotectants in liquid nitrogen. For short term preservation nearly 90% liquid and 100% agar recovered strains were viable after one month at both temperatures. In the case of the agar flakes, cells were viable after three months of conservation at room temperature. Cryopreservation did not give any suitable results after three months of conservation. Variable and two-step improved cryopreservation processes are now in progress for conservation.

This paper introduces a Kalman-type recursive state estimator for a class of discrete-time stochastic linear singular systems where the measurements are carried part by part periodically following a scheduling *** consider that the system is in a network with limited allotted bandwidth,which refers to a situation where the total available bandwidth for data transmission through the network is *** limitation can occur for various reasons,such as network congestion,resource allocation policies,or bandwidth limitations imposed by network *** such networks,the entire measurement vector cannot be transmitted to the estimator ***,managing a network with a limited allotted bandwidth requires careful planning,monitoring,and implementing some scheduling strategies to optimize the use of measured data while estimating the system *** show that a scheduling method,namely,round-robin protocol,is suitable for singular systems to deal with such a *** upper bound of the prior error covariance is studied via a periodic Riccati equation(PRE).To retain the boundedness of prior error covariance,the stability of the PRE is examined by the observability properties of the round-robin-induced ***,a simulation example is presented to show the effectiveness of the designed filtering scheme.

Multivariate analysis of codon and amino acid usage was performed for three Leishmania species, including L. donovani, L. infantum and L. major. It was revealed that all three species are under mutational bias and translational selection. Lower GC12 and higher GC3s in all three parasites suggests that the ancestral highly expressed genes （HEGs）, compared to lowly expressed genes （LEGs）, might have been rich in AT-content. This also suggests that there must have been a faster rate of evolution under GC-bias in LEGs. It was observed from the esti- mation of synonymous/non-synonymous substitutions in HEGs that the HEG dataset of L. donovani is much closer to L. major evolutionarily. This is also supported by the higher ds value as compared to ds between L. donovani and L. major, suggesting the conservation of synonymous codon positions between these two species and the role of translational selection in shaping the composition of protein-coding genes.

Crude leaf extracts of Eucalyptus camaldulensis and Tylophora indica were evaluated for their antifeedancy against Helicoverpa armigera larvae in no-choice bioassays. Cabbage leaf-disc dipped in different concentrations of leaf extracts was used for feeding fifth instars of H. armigera for 24 hours. Ethanol extracts from both the plant species exhibited significant feeding inhibition, activity. The effective concentrations of ethanol extracts that caused 50% reduction in larval feeding （EI50） were 6.9% for E. camaldulensis and 2.8% for T. indica, while these values of hexane extracts were 9.3% and 5.2%, respectively. Compared to the crude leaf extracts, crude alkaloids from T. indica and crude tannins from E. camaldulensis were more potent in reducing larval feedings.

Objective:The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of lukewarm water compress on breast pain and breast engorgement among post-cesarean primiparous *** and Methods:This quasi-experimental posttest-only design was conducted with 60 post-cesarean section primiparous mothers between October 2018 and January 2019.A simple random sampling technique was used to allocate 30 participants to both experimental and control *** experimental group received lukewarm water compress using a sponge cloth for 20 min twice a day on the second,third,and fourth postnatal *** control group received routine hospital *** pain and engorgement were assessed using the Visual Analog Pain Scale and Breast Engorgement Assessment Scale on the third,fourth,and fifth postnatal ***:Significant differences were observed between the experimental and control groups on day 1 and day 3 in terms of breast pain and engorgement scores among post-cesarean section mothers(P0.05).Conclusion:Lukewarm water compress is effective in reducing breast pain and engorgement in post-cesarean primiparous *** research can include randomized controlled trials to evaluate the effectiveness of different therapies in treating breast pain and engorgement.

Screening of antiproliferative activity mediated through apoptosis pathway in human non-small lung cancer A-549 cells by active compounds present in medicinal plants

Objective: To explore the antiproliferative activity and apoptosis in cells caused by active compounds present in plants using different techniques. Methods: We investigated the antiproliferative effects of methanolic extracts from different parts of seven plants on A-549(lung cancer) cells and primary cell culture(chick embryo fibroblast cells, as normal cells) using MTT assay and the potent plant was fractioned further. All these fractions were screened again for anti-proliferative activity. DNA fragmentation and DAPI staining were used to study apoptosis. Quantitative real-time was used to investigate the expression of apoptoticrelated genes. LC-MS and 1 H-NMR techniques were used to identify the active compounds present. EnzCheck caspase-3 assay kit was used to measure caspase-3 activity. Results: Methanolic extract of Vitex negundo(V. negundo) was selected as a potent fraction. Among all fractions screened, ethylacetate fraction of V. negundo was selected as the most potent antiproliferative fraction and phytochemical analysis of the extract revealed the presence of secondary metabolites. Ethaylacetate fraction of V. negundo was found to cause characteristic apoptotic morphological changes and generation of ROS in A-549 cells. Ethaylacetate fraction of V. negundo also induced apoptosis in A-549 which was supported by DNA fragmentation and DAPI staining. To investigate the molecular mechanism behind the cytotoxic effect of ethaylacetate fraction of V. negundo, quantitative real-time PCR was used to measure expression levels of p53, bax, bcl2, casp-3 and casp-9. Using LC-MS and 1 H-NMR techniques, cytotoxic compounds(luteolin and p-hydroxy benzoic acid) were identified which increased casp-3 activity in a dose and time-dependent manner in A-549 treated cells. Conclusions: It is concluded from the present study that V. negundo is capable of triggering growth-inhibitive and apoptosis effects in A-549 cells, signifying that V. negundo may possesses anti-lung cancer

Colonoscopic surveillance is advocated in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD) for detection of dys-plasia. There are many issues regarding surveillance in IBD: the risk of colorectal cancer seems to be de-creasing in the majority of recently published studies, necessitating revisions of surveillance strategy; surveil-lance guidelines are not based on concrete evidence; commencement and frequency of surveillance, cost-effectiveness and adherence to surveillance have been issues that are only partly answered. The traditional technique of random biopsy is neither evidence-based nor easy to practice. Therefore, highlighting abnormal areas with newer technology and biopsy from these areas are the way forward. Of the newer technology, digital mucosal enhancement, such as high-definition white light endoscopy and chromoendoscopy(with magnification) have been incorporated in guidelines. Dyeless chromoendoscopy(narrow band imaging) has not yet shown potential, whereas some forms of digital chromoendoscopy(i-Scan more than Fujinon intelligent color enhancement) have shown promise for colonoscopic surveillance in IBD. Other techniquessuch as autofluorescence imaging, endomicroscopy and endocytoscopy need further evidence. Surveillance with genetic markers(tissue, serum or stool) is at an early stage. This article discusses changing epidemiology of colorectal cancer development in IBD and critically evaluates issues regarding colonoscopic surveillance in IBD.

Xylanase is an important enzyme with potential application in the degradation of xylan component in the lignocellulosic biomass. There are very few reports on the production of cellulase free xylanases especially by yeast strains which have great potential in paper and pulp industry in removing the hemicellulose from the treated or untreated pulp. In this study, P. hubeiensis NCIM 3574 isolated in our laboratory produced significant levels of extracellular cellulase free xylanase (2480 IU/g DSS) in solid state fermentation (SSF) using wheat bran and xylan. It also produced high levels of β-xylosidase (198 IU/g DSS) when grown in SSF using ground nut oil cake and xylan. These highest activities were obtained when fermented Koji was extracted with 1% NaCl supplemented with 0.5% of Triton X-100. These are the highest activities reported so far from yeast strains in the available literature. The crude xylanase preparation of P. hubeiensis produced xylooligosaccharides (XOS) without xylose proving its potential for XOS production with no further requirement of downstream processing. The XOS as prebiotic show beneficial effect on gut microflora such as Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria which suppress the activity of pathogenic organisms. This xylanase also has a potential application as a bio-bleaching agent in paper and pulp industry.
