Genetic Testing in Professional Football:Perspectives of Key Stakeholders

Purpose Genetic research in football is currently in it’s infancy but is growing ***,the practical application of genetic testing in football and the views concerning its use are ***,the purpose of this study was to assess the current practical application of genetic testing in professional football and provide an insight into the perspectives of key stakeholders(i.e.,coaches,practitioners,players).Methods In total,122 participants completed an online anonymous *** consisted of 21 multiple choice and Likert scale questions,with the option of providing an explanation for each *** Findings revealed genetic testing is rarely utilised by key stakeholders(10%)or their respective organisations(14%).However,three quarters(75%)had the opinion that genetic testing will have great utility in the *** majority(72%)believed genetic testing should be used for athlete development and injury risk,whilst 35%believed that genetic testing should be utilised for talent identification ***,most key stakeholders viewed their own(89%)and their col-leagues’(79%)knowledge related to genetic testing as insufficient;mainly due to ineffective current communication methods(91%).Most believed educational workshops are required(71%),whilst nearly all(91%)were interested in developing their expertise on the utility of genetic *** Genetic testing is rarely used within professional football,although key stakeholders anticipate that it will be utilised more in the *** such,educational support may prove valuable in improving key stakeholder knowledge and the practical application of genetic testing in professional football.

Expansion of a Y-Shaped Antenna Array and Optimization of the Future Antenna Array in Malaysia for Astronomical Applications

To achieve high quality images from the sky by extending an existing interferometric array, in this work, the Geometrical Method (GM), Genetic Algorithm (GA), and Division Algorithm (DA) are compared. These methods are each applied independently to an interferometer array starting from the same initial conditions. Using the GM method, the spiral configuration is suggested as an optimum arrangement that provides the desired u-v coverage with low side lobe levels (SLLs). Using the GA method, as the number of generations is increased, the unsampled cells are reduced, enhancing the imaging quality. As such, the algorithm improves the overlapped samples as it works with a greater number of generations. Moreover, the GA is able to suppress the SLL. Finally, the DA is applied to such an array. Results show that the DA is able to process the sampled data with less overlapping of the data in the snapshot observations, in comparison to the other discussed configurations in this paper;effectively the DA reduces the overlapped samples, such that it is more efficient than the GA. The configuration of antennas that arrives by applying the DA method can achieve a certain image quality with less overlapping, as compared to the configuration arriving by applying the GA method. The calculated SLLs for the DA configuration are used to demonstrate that the efficiency of the DA is potentially better than that of the GA. Moreover, the GA and DA algorithms discussed in this study are applied to an array of 10 antennas with coordinates that represent the antennas deployed in Malaysia. Results show that the DA can reduce the overlapping of the samples more efficiently than the GA for a 6-hour tracking observation and in terms of unsampled cells the DA has the same efficiency of the GA.

Mitochondria have long been considered to be the powerhouse of the living cell, generating energy in the form of the molecule ATP via the process of oxidative phosphorylation. In the past 20 years, it has been recognised that they also play an important role in the implementation of apoptosis, or programmed cell death. More recently it has become evident that mitochondria also participate in the orchestration of cellular defence *** physiological concentrations, the gaseous molecule nitric oxide (NO) inhibits the mitochondrial enzyme cytochrome c oxidase (complex IV) in competition with oxygen. This interaction underlies the mitochondrial actions of NO, which range from the physiologi- cal regulation of cell respiration, through mitochondrial signalling, to the development of “metabolic hypoxia” – a situation in which, although oxygen is available, the cell is unable to utilise it.

INTRODUcTION Decades of research have been devoted to studying the properties of nanostructured materials-e.g.,single crystalline wires,porous materials,polycrystals and laminatesfor applications ranging from heterogeneous catalysts to highstrength structures.1 Interest in nanoscale materials is motivated by their new(and often enhanced)properties,which are attributed to large interfacial areas and high surface defect concentrations.2 Nanoscale catalysts exhibit superior activities due to surface strains,increased population of dangling bonds,and unique surface electronic states established by surface/subsurface atomic interactions.3,4 For instance,bulk Au surfaces are relatively inert but Au nanoparticles exhibit excellent catalytic behavior.1,3 In a similar fashion,nanocrystalline metals possess exceptionally high yield strengths due to an increased barrier for plasticity mechanisms to operate in confined volumes and in close proximity to interfaces.1,2,5 Unfortunately,fabrication techniques for these materials are frequently resource-intensive and cannot be translated into commercial-scale processing.

分离雌性BDF1小鼠骨髓中的单个核细胞,以MoFlo细胞分选系统分离纯化cD34+/c-kit+造血干/祖细胞,与小鼠间充质干细胞系Uc-OZ-17联合体外培养后,移植于经致死剂量照射的雌性小鼠.结果表明,体外扩增有效地提高了各种细胞的扩增倍数,其中单个核细胞扩增的总有核细胞、cD34+细胞、GM-cFc和HPP-cFc扩增倍数分别为10.8、4.8、65.9和38.8,cD34+/c-kit+细胞扩增的四种细胞扩增倍数分别为76.1、2.9、71.7和51.8.扩增细胞移植后可在体内产生嗜中性粒细胞等的快速恢复,短期快速恢复不但为长期植入提供了机会,也对内源性重建造血产生重要作用.

The microstructural changes taking place during heating of calcium orthophosphate (ca3(PO4)2) agglom- erates were examined in this study. The starting powder was prepared by the spray-pyrolysis of calcium phosphate (ca/P ratio=1.50) solution containing 1.8 mol·L-1 ca(NO3)2, 1.2 mol·L-1 (NH4)2HPO4 and concentrated HNO3 at 600 c, using an o air-liquid nozzle. The spray-pyrolyzed powder was found to be composed of dense spherical agglomerates with a mean diameter of 1.3 μm. This powder was further heat-treated at a temperature between 800 and 1400 c for 10 min. When o the spray-pyrolyzed powder was heated up to 900 c, only β-ca3(PO4)2 was detected, and the mean pore size of the o spherical agglomerates increased via the (i) elimination of residual water and nitrates, (ii) rearrangement of primary par- ticles within the agglomerates, (iii) coalescence of small pores (below 0.1 μm), and (iv) coalescence of agglomerates with diameters below 1 μm into the larger agglomerates. Among the heat-treated powders, pore sizes within the spherical agglomerates were observed to be the largest (mean diameter: 1.8 μm) for the powder heat-treated at 900 c for 10 min. o With an increase in heat-treatment temperature up to 1000 c, the spherical agglomerates were composed of dense o shells. Upon further heating up to 1400 c, the hollow spherical agglomerates collapsed as a result of sintering via the o phase transformation from β- to α-ca3(PO4)2 (1150 c), thus leading to the
