The aim of this work was to investigate the FUT2 gene, the secretor status and the expression of cD44 protein in epithelial cells obtain from saliva and urine samples from patients with urogenital tumours. We studied 104 subjects. Half of them had urogenital tumours, while the other half was the healthy control group. We determined the secretor status in saliva with the haemagglutination inhibition technique. We analyzed the FUT2 polymorphism by allele specific oligonucleotide–polymerase chain reaction (ASO-PcR) with specific primers for the G428 allele and the wild type allele of FUT2 gene. We found higher intensity of urogenital disease in the non-secretor group (OR = 3.44). In contrast with the healthy population, 51.6% of the patients with potential malignant urogenital lesions and cancerous lesions were non-secretors. We also investigate by confocal microscopy, the expression of cD44 protein in epithelial cells obtained from urine samples from these patients. The results obtained also showed fluorescence corresponding to the presence of cD44 protein in samples from patients diagnosed with cancer. Our study suggests that the lack of wild type FUT2 gene and a nonsecretor status appear to be an associated risk marker for the development of urogenital tumors. Several mechanisms, based on the properties of cD44 as the major hyaluronan cD44 in cell carcinomas receptor, have been proposed to explain the role of elevated cD44 expression during tumour development and progression. cD44 might be a good candidate as a predictor of prognosis in this group of cancers.

Bone metastases from gastric.c.ncer(Gc) are considered a relatively uncommon finding; however, they are related to poorer prognosis. Both primary Gc and its metastatic progression rely on angiogenesis. Several lines of evidence from Gc patients strongly support the involvement of mast cells(Mcs) positive to tryptase(McPT) in primary gastric tumor angiogenesis. Recently,we analyzed infiltrating Mcs and neovascularization in bone tissue metastases from primary Gc patients, and observed a significant correlation between infiltrating McPT and angiogenesis. Such a finding suggested the involvement of peritumoral McPT by infiltrating surrounding tumor cells, and in bone metastasis angiogenesis from primary Gc. Thus, an McPT-stimulated angiogenic process could support the development of metastases in bone tissue. From this perspective, we aim to review the hypothetical involvement of tumorinfiltrating,peritumoral McPT in angiogenesis-mediated Gc.c.ll growth in the bone microenvironment and in tumor-induced osteoclastic bone resorption. We also focus on the potential use of McPT targeting agents,such as Mcs tryptase inhibitors(gabexate mesylate,nafamostat mesylate) or c-KitR tyrosine kinase inhibitors(imatinib, masitinib), as possible new anti-angiogenic and anti-resorptive strategies for the treatment of Gc patientsaffected by bone metastases.

Three novel branched polyamines N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis-[3((pyridine-2-methyl)-amine) propyl]-1,4- butanediamine (1), N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis-[N-((2-methylpyridine)ethyl)propanamide]ethylenediamine (2) and N,N,N’,N’-tetrakis-[3((2-hidroxibenziliden)-amine)propyl]-1,4-butanediamine (3), were synthesized starting from 2-pyridinecarboxaldeyde with DAB-Am-4 for 1, PAMAM G0 for 2 and from salicylaldehyde with DAB-Am-4 for 3. The pathway reactions have been proposed by 1H-NMR, IR and Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy. The optimal reaction time was set by IR spectroscopy following aldehyde? peak modification. 1 and 2 were obtained as both hydrochlorides and as free amines and 3 only as free imine. These polyamines were characterized by UV-Vis, IR, 1H-NMR and 13c-NMR and Mass Spectrometry.

The aim of this study was to evaluate some physiological aspects of papaya crops in semi conventional and organic production *** following factors assessed in this experiment were:*** systems(organic and semi conventional);***(Maradol and Maradona F1),and *** crop plants(canavalia,vegetative cover and no cover).Twelve treatments were obtained-product of factors’combination-and distributed under a threerepetition experimental design of subdivided *** factors examined in this study,that changed the cO_(2) assimilation rate,were production system and *** was determined that the greatest gas exchange in papaya crops happened at 13:40 h but achieving the highest cO_(2) assimilation was also affected by the production system and ***,they showed some effects in cO_(2) assimilation,transpiration,stomatal conductance,intercellular cO_(2),leaf temperature,chlorophyll,and *** general,the combination of factors that accentuated in this experiment were the semi conventional-Maradona-canavalia with a crop yield of 53.5 t ha^(-1),followed by treatments organic-Maradona-no cover and semi conventional-Maradona-vegetative cover.

Mild to moderate autoimmune thrombocytopenia(AITP) is a common finding in patients receiving interferonbased antiviral treatment, due to bone marrow suppression. Here we report the case of a patient with chronic genotype 1b hepatitis c virus(HcV) infection treated with pegylated-interferon alpha-2a, ribavirin and telaprevir for 24 wk; the patient developed severe AITP three weeks after treatment withdrawal. We performed a systematic literature search in order to review all published cases of AITP related to HcV antiviral treatment. To our knowledge, this is the second case of AITP observed after antiviral treatment withdrawal. In most published cases AITP occurred during treatment; in fact, among 24 cases of AITP related to interferonbased antiviral treatment, only one occurred after discontinuation. Early diagnosis of AITP is a key factor in order to achieve an early interferon discontinuation; in the era of new direct antiviral agents those patients have to be considered for interferon-free treatment regimens. Prompt prescription of immuno-suppressant treatment(i.e., corticosteroids, immunoglobulin infusion and even rituximab for unresponsive cases) leads to favourable prognosis in most of cases. Physicians using interferonbased treatments should be aware that AITP can occur both during and after treatment, specially in the new era of interferon-free antiviral treatment. Finally, in the case of suspected AITP, presence of anti-platelet antibodies should be checked not only during treatment but alsoafter discontinuation.

A study was conducted on the forest structure of Pinus hartwegii Lindl., located at the cofre de Perote National Park. The density, diameter, height and wooded coverage were evaluated along an altitudinal gradient from 3500 to 4000 meters in 20 plots of 100 m2. The structure of the population was found to be in the form of an “inverted J”. No statistically significant differences were found for any of the above-mentioned variables evaluated in the altitudinal range. A high density of suppressed individuals was found to occur at 50% of the sites sampled. Given the suppression characteristics of the trees, shelterwood is suggested for a better development of the woodland mass, as well as the introduction of mycorrhizal plants.

Effect of a 5% Neem Solution on the Presence of Ticks in cattle in Two Locations in Jalisco, Mexico

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of a 5% neem extract on the presence of ticks. Forty creole cattle were used, divided into four groups: 2 experimental and 2 controls, in the towns of c.c.la and El chante, Jalisco. The tick count was by direct palpation, and with an acarometer (25 cm2). Eight body regions were evaluated: neck, thorax, flank and thigh, left and right. At zero time, after the initial tick count, it was applied by spraying and once, the 5% neem extract, at a dose of 10 ml/L. Ticks were quantified at 7, 14, 21, 28, 35 and 42 days post-treatment. The data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis and Sum of Kruskal-Wallis Ranges (α = 0.05) (SigmaStat 3.1). In c.c.la, at zero time, the average of ticks was in neck 32, in thorax 64, in flanks 96 and in thighs 129 (average per animal 323 ticks). In subsequent sampling, the average decreased in the experimental group to 1 or 4 parasites. In “El chante”, an average of 60 ticks was found at the time of the neck, in the thorax 121, in flanks 181 and in thighs 242 (average per animal 600 ticks). In subsequent sampling, the average decreased in the experimental group, with averages of 1 to 4. Statistical differences (p ≤ 0.001) were found between the groups. It can be concluded that 5% neem extract has a repellent and tick effect in cattle for at least 42 days.
