This paper concerns the traveling wave formation in macroscopic traffic flow models. The dynamics involved in this problem is described following a close analogy to compressible fluid dynamics. It is well known that vehicle clusters appear along a highway when the homogenous steady state taken as a reference is linearly unstable. The cluster properties are determined in an approximate way in terms of the parameters proper to each model and are compared between them.

Radiotherapy(RT)is the backbone of multimodality treatment of more than half of cancer *** new modern RT techniques,late complications may occur such as radiation proctitis(RP).The natural history of RP is *** symptoms may resolve spontaneously or require conservative *** the other hand,for similar and uncomplicated clinical contexts,symptoms may persist and can even be refractory to the progressive increase in treatment *** the last decades,an enormous therapeutic armamentarium has been considered in RP,including hyperbaric oxygen therapy(HBOT).Currently,the evidence regarding the impact of HBOT on RP and its benefits is *** prospective and randomised studies are necessary to validate HBOT’s effectiveness in the‘real world’clinical *** article reviewed the relevant literature on pathophysiology,clinical presentation,different classifications and discuss RP management including a proposal for a therapeutic algorithm with a focus on HBOT.

BACKGROUND Liver transplantation for the most critically ill remains controversial;however,it is currently the only curative treatment *** To assess immediate posttransplant outcomes and compare the short(1 year)and long-term(6 years)posttransplant survival among cirrhotic patients stratified by disease *** We included cirrhotic patients undergoing liver transplantation between 2015 and 2019 and categorized them into compensated cirrhosis(CC),decompensated cirrhosis(DC),and acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF).ACLF was further divided into severity *** primary outcomes of interest were total days of intensive care unit(ICU)and hospital stay,development of complications and posttransplant survival at 1 and 6 *** 235 patients underwent liver transplantation(CC=11,DC=129 and ACLF=95).Patients with ACLF had a significantly longer hospital stay[8.0(6.0-13.0)vs CC,6.0(3.0-7.0),and DC 7.0(4.5-10.0);P=0.01]and developed more infection-related complications[47(49.5%),vs CC,1(9.1%)and DC,38(29.5%);Psttransplant survival at 1-and 6-years was similar among groups(P=0.60 and P=0.90,respectively).ACLF patients stratified according to ACLF grade[ACLF-1 n=40(42.1%),ACLF-2 n=33(34.7%)and ACLF-3 n=22(23.2%)],had similar ICU and hospital stay length(P=0.68,P=0.54),as well as comparable frequencies of overall and infectious posttransplant complications(P=0.58,P=0.80).There was no survival difference between ACLF grades at 1 year and 6 years(P=0.40 and P=0.15).CONCLUsION Patients may benefit from liver transplantation regardless of the cirrhosis *** patients have a longer hospital stay and frequency of infectious complications;however,excellent,and comparable 1 and 6-year survival rates support their enlisting and transplantation including those with ACLF-3.

No independent associations between physical activity and clinical outcomes among hospitalized patients with moderate to severe COVID-19

Background:Regular physical activity(PA)has been postulated to improve,or at least maintain,immunity across the life ***,the link between physical(in)activity and coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)remains to be *** small-scale prospective cohort study is nested within a randomized controlled trial aimed to investigate the possible associations between PA levels and clinical outcomes among hospitalized patients with moderate to severe ***:Hospitalized patients with COVID-19(mean age:54.9 years)were recruited from the Clinical Hospital of the school of medicine of the University of sao Paulo(a quaternary referral teaching hospital)and from Ibirapuera Field Hospital,both located in sao Paulo,*** level was assessed using the Baecke Questionnaire of Habitual Physical *** primary outcome was hospital length of *** secondary outcomes were mortality,admission to the intensive care unit(ICU),and mechanical ventilation ***:The median hospital length of stay was 7.0§4.0 days,median§IQR;3.3%of patients died,13.8%were admitted to the ICU,and 8.6%required mechanical *** linear regression models showed that PA indices were not associated with hospital length of stay(work index:b=-0.57(95%confidence interval(95%CI):-1.80 to 0.65),p=0.355;sport index:b=0.43(95%CI:-0.94 to 1.80),p=0.536;leisure-time index:b=1.18(95%CI:-0.22 to 2.59),p=0.099;and total activity index:b=0.20(95%CI:-0.48 to 0.87),p=0.563).None of the PA indices were associated with mortality,admission to the ICU,or mechanical ventilation requirement(all p>0.050).Conclusion:Among hospitalized patients with COVID-19,PA did not independently associate with hospital length of stay or any other clinically relevant *** findings should be interpreted as meaning that,among already hospitalized patients with more severe forms of COVID-19,being active is a potential protective factor likely outweighed by a cluster of comorbidities(e.

A system that allows computer interaction by disabled people with very low mobility and who cannot use the standard procedure based on keyboard and mouse is presented. The development device uses the patient’s voluntary biomechanical signals, specifically, winks—which constitute an ability that generally remains in this kind of patients—, as interface to control the computer. A prototype based on robust and low-cost elements has been built and its performance has been validated through real trials by 16 users without previous training. The system can be optimized after a learning period in order to be adapted to every user. Also, good results were obtained in a subjective satisfaction survey that was completed by the users after carrying out the test trials.

Objective:This study aimed to determine the predictive ability of instructors’online caring behaviors,online learning burnout,and satisfaction with online learning on nursing students’academic ***:This was a cross-sectional study employing the administration of online self-repor t measures among 606 undergraduate students in one large nursing school in the *** analysis involved the use of descriptive statistics,Pearson’s r,and linear ***:The mean scores in the instructors’online caring behaviors scale,online learning burnout scale,online learning satisfaction scale,and self-repor ted academic performance were 3.88±0.70,4.00±0.84,2.51±0.96,and 3.25±0.79 ***(β=0.216,P=0.000),burnout(β=0.-098,P=0.019),and instructors’caring behaviors(β=0.096,P=0.030)explained 11.7%of the variability in the students’academic ***:Instructors’caring behavior and levels of burnout and satisfaction are linked to students’academic success in the vir tual learning *** study calls for nursing instructors to be mindful of signs of burnout,employ proactive measures that promote satisfactory learning,and foster more caring behaviors in this time of global health crisis.
