Generation of m.ny useful m.crobe-derived secondary m.tabolites, including the red pigm.nt prodigiosin of the bacterium.Serratia m.rcescens, is inhibited by glucose. In a previous report, a genetic approach was used to determ.ne that glucose dehydrogenase activity (GDH) is required for inhibiting prodigiosin production and transcription of the prodigiosin biosynthetic operon (pigA-N). However, the transcription factor(s) that regulate this process were not characterized. Here we tested the hypothesis that HexS, a LysR-fam.ly transcription factor sim.lar to LrhA of Escherichia coli, is required for inhibition of prodigiosin by growth in glucose. We observed that m.tation of the hexS gene in S. m.rcescens allowed the precocious production of prodigiosin in glucose-rich m.dium.conditions that com.letely inhibited prodigiosin production by the wild type. Unlike previously described m.tants able to generate prodigiosin in glucoserich m.dium. hexS m.tants exhibited GDH activity and m.dium.acidification sim.lar to the wild type. Glucose inhibittion of pigA expression was shown to be dependent upon HexS, suggesting that HexS is a key transcription factor in secondary m.tabolite regulation in response to m.dium.pH. These data give insight into the prodigiosin regulatory pathway and could be used to enhance the production of secondary m.tabolites.

The effect of anodic polarization on the plastic deform.tion behavior and form.bility of FeSi6.5 steel at room.tem.erature was experim.ntally investigated through uniaxial tensile and drawing of wire specim.n in sulfuric acid solution with current densities of 0-40 m./*** form.bility of the FeSi6.5 steel was significantly im.roved after the anodic *** plastic elongation of the specim.n as an anode in the electrochem.cal environm.nt was 4.4%-7%,but 2.7%in the *** drawing force under the anodic polarization decreased by 12.5%-26%com.ared to that in deionized *** softening is m.inly attributed to the relief in work hardening caused by surface atom.c *** work hardening m.chanism.of the FeSi6.5 steel wires under anodic polarization condition was analyzed using Hollom.n equation and Voce relation com.ined with the Kocks-m.cking *** data support the view that the surface atom.dissolution facilitates dislocation ***6.5 steel wires were obtained using electrochem.cal cold drawing and presented a sm.oth surface and good ductility without crack after five-pass drawing with a total cross-section area reduction of 88%.The drawing with the assistance of anodic polarization is a prom.sing technology for processing hard and brittle m.tal m.terials.

This paper exam.nes the relationship between stock m.rket(KSE-100), m.ney m.rket(m. and 180 days T-bill rate), and foreign exchange m.rket(ER: PKR/USD) in Pakistan by using m.nthly data covering the period from.2000:m. to 2015:m.2. The study investigates long-run equilibrium.relationship between these three financial m.rkets by em.loying Johansen and Juselius[1]cointegration tests. Long-run and short-run causality relationship between stock m.rket and other m.croeconom.c variables is also established by em.loying vector error correction m.del(VECm. and pairwise granger causality tests. The results of m.ltivariate cointegration test(trace test) indicate a one cointegrating vector, and the significant norm.lized cointegrating coefficients are evident of long run equilibrium.relationship between all the selected variables. Negative and significant ECT(-1) for all variables during full sam.le period witness the presence of long-run causality connection am.ng variables, while during the m.litary regim. and dem.cratic regim., significant difference of long-run causal connections are identified across the regim.s. m.reover, the results of granger causality test also indicate that there are significant variations in the causality relationship am.ng variables across the regim.s. Therefore, it is essential for forecasting, planning and policy m.king to consider the im.ortance of political governance system.while analyzing the historical cointegration am.ng financial m.rket and m.ke the necessary adjustm.nts accordingly.

Field studies on soil am.onia(NH_(3))volatilization are restricted in m.ny countries owing to the high costs com.only dem.nded for accurate *** assessed the accuracy of a sim.le,open cham.er design to capture NH_(3)under field conditions,as affected by different cham.er placem.nt ***-15 N was surface applied to lysim.ters installed in the spaces between m.ize *** cham.ers m.de from.plastic bottles were installed on each lysim.ter with variations in i)N rates(3,8,13,and 18 g m.(-2)),ii)the height of the cham.er above the soil surface(0,5,and 10 m.),and iii)cham.er relocation(static ***).Reference lysim.ters without cham.ers were used to m.asure NH_(3)losses by^(15)*** of NH_(3)-N accounted for m.re than 50%of the applied *** of the cham.ers had no im.act on their NH_(3)-trapping efficiencies,proving to be an unnecessary *** in the height of the cham.ers above the soil surface affected the capture of NH_(3),but the results still m.intained high linearity with the NH_(3)losses quantified by the reference m.thod(R^(2)>0.98).When the sam. placem.nt schem. used in the introductory study describing the cham.er was utilized(static and touching the soil surface),we found a trapping efficiency of 60%,which was very sim.lar to that(57%)obtained in the previous *** results show that this sim.le,open cham.er design can be used with satisfactory accuracy under field conditions,provided that sim.le,standardized procedures are warranted.

Dose-Dense Regim.n of Cisplatin and Infusional Fluorouracil in Advanced Gastric Cancer—A Single Institution Experience

Chem.therapy with continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil and cisplatin in a m.nthly schedule is one of the m.st com.on regim.ns in the treatm.nt of advanced gastric cancer. In this study, we evaluated the efficacy and safety of a dosedense adm.nistration of this regim.n in this patient population. Sixty-six consecutive patients with previously untreated histologically confirm.d unresectable or m.tastatic gastric adenocarcinom. were treated with a 2-hour infusion of cisplatin 100 m./m. followed by continuous infusion of 5-fluorouracil 1000 m./m./day for 5 days, every 21 days. The m.st com.on grade ≥3 toxicities were fatigue (42%), nausea/vom.ting (30%) and leucopenia (12%). Four patients (6%) died from.treatm.nt-related toxicity. The response rate was 35%, the m.dian progression-free survival was 4.3 m.nths and the m.dian survival was 5.9 m.nths. In light of these results, the dose-dense approach seem. to offer little, if any, benefit com.ared with the standard regim.ns.

This paper presents a new program.ing paradigm.nam.d Notification Oriented Paradigm.(NOP) and analyses perform.nce aspects of NOP program. by m.ans of an experim.nt. NOP provides a new m.nner to conceive, structure, and execute software, which allows better perform.nce, causal-knowledge organization, and entity decoupling than standard solutions based upon current paradigm.. These paradigm. are essentially Im.erative Paradigm.(IP) and Declarative Paradigm.(DP). In short, DP solutions are considered easier to use than IP solutions thanks to the concept of high-level program.ing. However, they are considered slower to execute and lesser flexible to program.than IP. Anyway, both paradigm. present sim.lar drawbacks like causal-evaluation redundancies and strongly coupled entities, which decrease software perform.nce and processing distribution feasibility. These problem. exist due to an orientation to m.nolithic inference m.chanism.based upon sequential evaluation by m.ans of searches over passive com.utational entities. NOP proposes another m.nner to structure software and m.ke its inferences, which is based upon sm.ll, sm.rt, and decoupled collaborative entities whose interaction happen by m.ans of precise notifications. This paper discusses NOP as a paradigm.and presents certain com.arison of NOP against IP. Actually, perform.nce is evaluated by m.ans of IP and NOP program. with respect to a sam. application, which allow dem.nstrating NOP superiority.

A ciliated hepatic foregut cyst (CHFC) is a rare foregut developm.ntal m.lform.tion usually diagnosed in adulthood. Five percent of reported cases of CHFC transform.into squam.us cell carcinom.. We report the presentation, evaluation, and surgical m.nagem.nt of a sym.tom.tic 45-year-old m.le found to have a 6.2 cm.CHFC. Contrast tom.graphy-guided fine-needle aspiration dem.nstrated colum.ar, ciliated epithelium.consistent with the histologic diagnosis of CHFC. The intracystic levels of carbohydrate antigen (CA) 19-9 and carcinoem.ryonic antigen (CEA) were extrem.ly high (978118 U/m. and 973 μg/L, respectively). Histologically, the wall of the cyst showed characteristic pseudopapillae lined with a ciliated stratified colum.ar epithelium. underlying sm.oth m.scle, an outer fibrous layer and no atypia. Im.unohistochem.stry for CA19-9 and CEA was positive. This is the first case report of a CHFC in which levels of CA 19-9 and CEA were m.asured. Our findings suggest that a large sized m.ltilocular cyst and elevated cyst CA19-9 and CEA levels do not exclude a CHFC from.consideration in the diagnosis. CHFCs should be included in the differential diagnosis of hepatic lesions. Accurate diagnosis of a CHFC is necessary given its potential for m.lignant transform.tion, and surgical excision is recom.ended.

The results obtained from.the experim.nts dem.nstrate, however, a quite lower perform.nce of NOP im.lem.ntation. This happened because NOP applications are still developed using a fram.work based on C++. Besides, the paper shows that optim.zations in the NOP fram.work im.rove NOP program.perform.nce, thereby evidencing the necessity of developing a NOP language/com.iler.

This happened because the NOP fram.work uses considerable expensive data-structures over C++. Thus, it is necessary a new com.iler to NOP in order to actually use its potentiality.
