Atomic-scale engineering of advanced catalytic and energy materials via atomic layer deposition for eco-friendly vehicles

Zero-emission eco-friendly vehicles with partly or fully electric powertrains have exhibited rapidly increased demand for reducing the emissions of air pollutants and improving the energy efficiency. Advanced catalytic and energy materials are essential as the significant portions in the key technologies of eco-friendly vehicles, such as the exhaust emission control system,power lithium ion battery and hydrogen fuel cell. Precise synthesis and surface modification of the functional materials and electrodes are required to satisfy the efficient surface and interface catalysis, as well as rapid electron/ion transport. Atomic layer deposition(ALD), an atomic and close-to-atomic scale manufacturing method, shows unique characteristics of precise thickness control, uniformity and conformality for film deposition, which has emerged as an important technique to design and engineer advanced catalytic and energy materials. This review has summarized recent process of ALD on the controllable preparation and modification of metal and oxide catalysts, as well as lithium ion battery and fuel cell electrodes. The enhanced catalytic and electrochemical performances are discussed with the unique nanostructures prepared by ALD. Recent works on ALD reactors for mass production are highlighted. The challenges involved in the research and development of ALD on the future practical applications are presented, including precursor and deposition process investigation, practical device performance evaluation, large-scale and efficient production, etc.

Human herpesvirus 6B infection in mesial temporal lobe epilepsy:a meta-analysis

Background Whether human herpesvirus 6B(HHV-6B)can affect mesial temporal lobe epilepsy(MTLE)remains controversial.The present meta-analysis was aimed to evaluate whether HHV-6B is significantly associated with MTLE.Methods Six studies were included in this meta-analysis,comprising 183 MTLE patients and 75 controls.In these studies,HHV-6B infection in astrocytes and brain samples of MTLE patients and controls was investigated by polymerase chain reaction and immunofluorescence.Results The frequency of HHV-6B infection detection is significantly higher in the MTLE group than in the control group(OR=9.42,95%CI:3.66–24.25),(Prongly associated with MTLE,the formation of febrile convulsion leading to MTLE is not associated with HHV-6B infection(OR=2.68,95%CI:0.93–7.73),(P=0.07).Moreover,the HHV-6B-specific antigen is co-localized to cells positive for GFAP that morphologically resemble astrocytes.HHV-6B mainly infects astrocytes,oligodendrocytes and microglia,and could damage the vascular endothelial cells of the central nervous system.Conclusions There is an association between HHV-6B infection and MTLE.Future large-scale,multi-center,controlled,prospective studies are required to confirm these findings.In addition,the exact mechanism underlying the effects of HHV-6B infection on MTLE needs to be further investigated.

Achievements, challenges and prospects for the development of broadly protective multivalent vaccines and therapeutic antibodies against hand, foot and mouth disease

Hand, foot and mouth disease(HFMD) is a significant health concern in the Asia–Pacific regions for infants and young children in recent years. However, no vaccines or therapeutics are available at present. The causative agents for HFMD include human enterovirus 71(EV71), coxsackievirus A16(CVA16) and some other viruses. Recently, tremendous progress has been made in the development of monovalent and bivalent vaccines against HFMD. A few neutralizing monoclonal antibodies against EV71 or CVA16 have been identified and characterized. Here, we reviewed some achievements for the development of broadly protective vaccines and neutralizing antibodies against HFMD, and discussed challenges and prospects toward broadly protective multivalent vaccines and therapeutic antibodies against HFMD.

HSP70蛋白作为热激蛋白(heat shock protein,HSP)家族重要成员之一,在植物的生长发育、逆境胁迫等过程中发挥着重要作用。为探究荔枝(Litchi chinensis)HSP70基因家族成员在应对低温、高温、干旱及盐胁迫环境时的作用,利用生物信息学方法鉴定荔枝全基因组中的HSP70基因家族,并通过实时荧光定量PCR(quantitative real-time PCR,qRT-PCR)技术检测HSP70家族成员在不同非生物胁迫处理下的表达模式。结果显示,LcHSP70基因家族共包含18个成员,不均匀地分布在荔枝的10条染色体上,其蛋白包含479−851个不等的氨基酸,等电点介于5.07−6.95之间,分子质量为52.44−94.07 kDa。LcHSP70蛋白在细胞核、细胞质、内质网、线粒体和叶绿体中有分布。系统进化分析发现LcHSP70蛋白分布在5个亚族,分别为Ⅰ、Ⅱ、Ⅲ、Ⅳ和Ⅵ亚族。LcHSP70s启动子区域拥有多种与植物生长发育、激素响应及逆境响应相关的顺式作用元件。转录组数据分析显示,LcHSP70s存在明显的组织表达特异性,总体上可分为普遍性表达和特异性表达。非生物胁迫表达分析显示,该基因家族成员均可以对低温、高温、干旱和盐胁迫作出不同程度的反应,且在不同时间表达差异显著。上述研究结果为进一步探究荔枝HSP70基因家族的功能奠定了基础。

BACKGROUND There is no remedial strategy other than definitive chemoradiotherapy for patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) who are not eligible to undergo surgical treatment.AIM To introduce a novel therapy called endoscopic debulking resection(Ed R) followed by additive chemoradiotherapy(CRT) and evaluate its efficacy and safety.METHODS Advanced, inoperable ESCC patients between 1 January 2015 and 30 December 2019 were investigated retrospectively. Patients who received Ed R followed by CRT were deemed the Ed R + CRT group and those without CRT were deemed the Ed R group. Overall survival(OS), progression-free survival(PFS), and adverse events were evaluated.RESULTS A total of 41 patients were enrolled. At a median follow-up of 36 mo(range: 1-83), the estimated 1-, 2-, and 3-year cumulative OS rates of patients who underwent Ed R plus additive CRT were 92.6%, 85.2%, and 79.5%, respectively, which were higher than those of patients who underwent Ed R alone(1-year OS, 83.3%;2-year OS, 58.3%;3-year OS, 50%;P = 0.05). The estimated 2-year cumulative PFS rate after Ed R + CRT was 85.7%, while it was 61.5% after Ed R(P = 0.043). According to the univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses, early clinical stage(stage ≤ IIB) and additive CRT were potential protective factors for cumulative OS. No severe adverse events were observed during the Ed R procedure, and only mild to moderate myelosuppression and radiation pneumonia were observed in patients who underwent additive CRT after Ed R.CONCLUSION Ed R plus CRT is an alternative strategy for selective advanced inoperable ESCC patients.

Childbearing intention and childbearing behavior in low fertility society: evidence from Shanghai

Exploring the patterns of population change under low fertility is a historical mission for demographic research in the 21st century.Taking Shanghai as an example,this paper discusses the new patterns and characteristics of people’s childbearing intention and behavior under low fertility settings.The results show that Shanghai,as a typical society with ultra-low fertility,people’s childbearing intention and behavior demonstrate the characteristics such as“downward inconsistency”between childbearing intention and childbearing behavior,“convergence”of childbearing intention and childbearing behavior between different sub-groups,“inversion”in childbearing intention and childbearing behavior with education and income,and the“decoupling”between marriage and childbearing.The childbearing intention and behavior of low fertility society as seen in the case of Shanghai show the patterns as somehow different from what was observed in a high fertility society.It suggests that many of the childbearing patterns shown in the high-fertility era may not necessarily be applicable in low fertility settings,and urges more research to be carried out in this regard.

Designing a heterojunction photocatalyst to improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated electrons and holes is of great significance to improve the hydrogen production efficiency.In this work,we report a rational design to grow ZnIN_(2)S_(4)on Mo-MOF-derived N-doped C-coated MoO_(2)(MOZIS),and it has excellent photocatalytic hydrogen production with triethanolamine(TEOA)as sacrificial agent.N-doped C improves the electron transport efficiency between MoO_(2)and ZnIN_(2)S_(4)·The systematic study shows that MOZIS has good properties to promote the effective separation and transfer of photocatalytic charges,which is attributed to the tight contact interface and good energy band structure between MoO_(2)and ZnlN_(2)S_(4).The optimized nanocomposites have a high hydrogen production efficiency of 10.89 mmol·g^(-1)(4 h)under visible light.MOF-derived N-doped C-coated MoO_(2)is an effective strategy to improve the photocatalytic hydrogen production efficiency of ZnIN_(2)S_(4).

Cardiac-resident macrophages(CRMs)play important roles in homeostasis,cardiac function,and remodeling.Although CRMs play critical roles in cardiac regeneration of neonatal mice,their roles are yet to be fully elucidated.Therefore,this study aimed to investigate the dynamic changes of CRMs during cardiac ontogeny and analyze the phenotypic and functional properties of CRMs in the promotion of cardiac regeneration.During mouse cardiac ontogeny,four CRM subsets exist successively:CX3CR1+CCR2-Ly6C-MHCII-(MP1),CX3CR1lowCCR2lowLy6C-MHCII-(MP2),CX3CR1-CCR2+Ly6C+MHCII-(MP3),and CX3CR1+CCR2-Ly6C-MHCII+(MP4).MP1 cluster has different derivations(yolk sac,fetal liver,and bone marrow)and multiple functions population.Embryonic and neonatal-derived-MP1 directly promoted cardiomyocyte proliferation through Jagged-1-Notch1 axis and significantly ameliorated cardiac injury following myocardial infarction.MP2/3 subsets could survive throughout adulthood.MP4,the main population in adult mouse hearts,contributed to inflammation.During ontogeny,MP1 can convert into MP4 triggered by changes in the cellular redox state.These findings delineate the evolutionary dynamics of CRMs under physiological conditions and found direct evidence that embryonic and neonatal-derived CRMs regulate cardiomyocyte proliferation.Our findings also shed light on cardiac repair following injury.

基于密度泛函理论的第一性原理从头计算方法,建立了Cl_(2)和O_(2)在TiC(100)表面的共吸附模型.通过分析吸附能、电荷密度和偏态密度(PDOS)等参数,研究了Cl_(2)和O_(2)在TiC(100)表面的反应机理,发现解离后的Cl原子和O原子与TiC(100)表面的原子均成键,从而破坏了Ti—C键.Cl_(2)分子在吸附过程中充当电子的受体,得到与之成键的Ti原子贡献的电子,O_(2)分子在吸附过程中也充当电子的受体,得到C原子贡献的电子.TiC(100)表面在吸附分子后,Ti—C成键轨道上电子占据数变少,反键轨道上电子占据数增多,Ti原子与C原子之间的成键作用减弱.同时,Ti3d与Cl3s,Cl3p发生轨道重叠杂化作用,O2p轨道和C2p轨道存在较强的共振峰,Cl原子和O原子与TiC表面相互作用强烈.

Evolutionary rates of mitochondrial sequences and gene orders in Spirurina(Nematoda)are episodic but synchronised

In contrast to highly conserved mitogenomic architecture in most metazoan lineages,which indicates that rearrangement events are generally strongly selected against,a limited number of often unrelated lineages exhibit highly elevated architectural evolution rates.The underlying reasons for this discontinuity in the mitogenomic evolution remain unknown.Previously we sequenced the mitochondrial genome of the first Camallanoidea species,Camallanus cotti(Nematoda:Chromadorea:Spirurina:Camallanidae),and found that it exhibited a highly disrupted architecture.We hypothesised that disrupted architecture might be a synapomorphic feature of the sister-clades Camallanoidea and Dracunculoidea.In this study,we sequenced mitogenomes of three freshwater fish-parasitic nematodes:Camallanus lacustris(Camallanidae),and two Philometridae(Dracunculoidea)species,Clavinema parasiluri,and Philometra sp.In partial agreement with the working hypothesis,both Camallanoidea species had exceptionally large mitogenomes of 18–19 Kbp,albeit the underlying reasons differed:in C.lacustris it was the existence of a single enlarged noncoding region of5.5 Kbp.A segment of this region exhibited an inverted base composition skew,which is indicative of a sequence inversion or recombination event.Camallanidae is the second identified chromadorean(first for Spirurina)family that exhibits within-family protein-coding gene rearrangements,and the absence of trnL1 and trnF may be a synapomorphy for Camallanoidea.The underlying reason for the disrupted architecture of Camallanidae does not appear to be a particular event shared by their common ancestor,but rather an underlying mechanism that makes disruptive events more likely in this lineage.In disagreement with the working hypothesis,Spiruromorpha and Oxyuridomorpha exhibited even more highly rearranged gene orders and greater overall branch lengths than Camallanomorpha.However,withininfraorder architecture was highly conserved and leaf nodes very short.This indicates that common ancestors of Spiruromorph
