The Chinese tree shrew(Tupaia belangeri chinensis),a member of the mammalian order Scandentia,exhibits considerable similarities with primates,including humans,in aspects of its nervous,immune,and metabolic systems.These similarities have established the tree shrew as a promising experimental model for biomedical research on cancer,infectious diseases,metabolic disorders,and mental health conditions.Herein,we used metatranscriptomic sequencing to analyze plasma,as well as oral and anal swab samples,from 105 healthy asymptomatic tree shrews to identify the presence of potential zoonotic viruses.In total,eight mammalian viruses with complete genomes were identified,belonging to six viral families,including Flaviviridae,Hepeviridae,Parvovirinae,Picornaviridae,Sedoreoviridae,and Spinareoviridae.Notably,the presence of rotavirus was recorded in tree shrews for the first time.Three viruses-hepacivirus 1,parvovirus,and picornavirus-exhibited low genetic similarity(94%)to known viral strains.Phylogenetic analyses also revealed that the rotavirus and mammalian orthoreovirus identified in this study may be novel reassortants.These findings provide insights into the diverse viral spectrum present in captive Chinese tree shrews,highlighting the necessity for further research into their potential for crossspecies transmission.

Unsupervised Oral Endoscope Image Stitching Algorithm

Oral endoscope image stitching algorithm is studied to obtain wide-field oral images through regis-tration and stitching,which is of great significance for auxiliary diagnosis.Compared with natural images,oral images have lower textures and fewer features.However,traditional feature-based image stitching methods rely heavily on feature extraction quality,often showing an unsatisfactory performance when stitching images with few features.Moreover,due to the hand-held shooting,there are large depth and perspective disparities between the captured images,which also pose a challenge to image stitching.To overcome the above problems,we propose an unsupervised oral endoscope image stitching algorithm based on the extraction of overlapping regions and the loss of deep features.In the registration stage,we extract the overlapping region of the input images by sketching polygon intersection for feature points screening and estimate homography from coarse to fine on a three-layer feature pyramid structure.Moreover,we calculate loss using deep features instead of pixel values to emphasize the importance of depth disparities in homography estimation.Finally,we reconstruct the stitched images from feature to pixel,which can eliminate artifacts caused by large parallax.Our method is compared with both feature-based and previous deep-based methods on the UDIS-D dataset and our oral endoscopy image dataset.The experimental results show that our algorithm can achieve higher homography estimation accuracy,and better visual quality,and can be effectively applied to oral endoscope image stitching.

How neonatal diet affects the long-term development of rumination behavior, rumen fermentation and feed digestion in dairy calves fed a high milk level?

This study was to investigate growth performance, rumination development, rumen fermentation and feed digestion in young calves provided high volumes(about 20% of calf birth weight) of milk with or without forage inclusion and how these parameters correlate with each other. Immediately after birth,160 newborn Holstein female calves(41.6 ± 4.2 kg of initial BW) were randomly divided into 2 treatments: 1) starter(CON, only starter) and 2) starter and hay(HAY, both starter and hay). The calves were fed their respective experimental diets from d 4 to 84, after which they were all introduced to similar diets until the end of the experiment on d 196. Treatment had no effect on growth and structural measurements throughout the experimental period. However, treatment had an effect on the other parameters, mainly during the post-weaning period. Forage supplementation tended to reduce starter dry matter intake(P = 0.05), while increasing the forage intake(P < 0.01) and the feed-to-gain ratio(P < 0.01). HAY calves had increased neutral detergent fiber(NDF) and physically effective NDF(peNDF)intakes(P < 0.05) and tended to lower(P < 0.01) starch intake compared to CON calves. The HAY calves had a higher rumination time(P < 0.01), ruminal pH(P < 0.01), and acetate-to-propionate ratio(P = 0.05)compared to the CON calves. Spearman correlation analysis showed that rumination time was positively related to the ruminal p H at d 84(P = 0.01) and 196(P = 0.02). The HAY calves had similar apparent total-tract digestibility of dry matter(DM), NDF and ether extract(EE), but lower digestibility of organic matter(OM, P = 0.03), crude protein(CP, P < 0.01) and starch(P < 0.01) compared to those of the CON calves at week 12. Furthermore, there were no positive relationships between rumination time and nutrient digestibility or between rumination time per kilogram DM and nutrient digestibility. In conclusion, feeding hay to calves fed a high milk level improved rumination during the post-weaning period only, without a concomitant effect on

A pH/ROS dual-responsive system for effective chemoimmunotherapy against melanoma via remodeling tumor immune microenvironment

Chemotherapeutics can induce immunogenic cell death(ICD)in tumor cells,offering new possibilities for cancer therapy.However,the efficiency of the immune response generated is insufficient due to the inhibitory nature of the tumor microenvironment(TME).Here,we developed a pH/reactive oxygen species(ROS)dual-response system to enhance chemoimmunotherapy for melanoma.The system productively accumulated in tumors by specific binding of phenylboronic acid(PBA)to sialic acids(SA).The nanoparticles(NPs)rapidly swelled and released quercetin(QUE)and doxorubicin(DOX)upon the stimulation of tumor microenvironment(TME).The in vitro and in vivo results consistently demonstrated that the NPs improved anti-tumor efficacy and prolonged survival of mice,significantly enhancing the effects of the combination.Our study revealed DOX was an ICD inducer,stimulating immune responses and promoting maturation of dendritic cells(DCs).Additionally,QUE served as a TME regulator by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase-2(COX2)-prostaglandin E2(PGE2)axis,which influenced various immune cells,including increasing cytotoxic T cells(CLTs)infiltration,promoting M1 macrophage polarization,and reducing regulatory T cells(Tregs)infiltration.The combination synergistically facilitated chemoimmunotherapy efficacy by remodeling the immunosuppressive microenvironment.This work presents a promising strategy to increase anti-tumor efficiency of chemotherapeutic agents.

Chemotherapy combined with bevacizumab for small cell lung cancer with brain metastases:A case report

BACKGROUND Small cell lung cancer(SCLC)is a common and aggressive subtype of lung cancer.It is characterized by rapid growth and a high mortality rate.Approximately 10%of patients with SCLC present with brain metastases at the time of diagnosis,which is associated with a median survival of 5 mo.This study aimed to summarize the effect of bevacizumab on the progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival of patients with brain metastasis of SCLC.CASE SUMMARY A 62-year-old man was referred to our hospital in February 2023 because of dizziness and numbness of the right lower extremity without headache or fever for more than four weeks.The patient was diagnosed with limited-stage SCLC.He received 8 cycles of chemotherapy combined with maintenance bevacizumab therapy and achieved a PFS of over 7 mo.CONCLUSION The combination of bevacizumab and irinotecan effectively alleviated brain metastasis in SCLC and prolonged PFS.

The Mediterranean diet has long been recognized as one of the most effective ways to prevent and improve cardiovascular disease.Extra virgin olive oil(EVOO)is the typical sources of fat in the Mediterranean diet which have been shown to have noteworthy nutritional value and positive impact on human health.It is worth noting that EVOO owes its superior nutritional value to its bioactive composition.The main component of EVOO is monounsaturated fatty acids(MUFAs)in the form of oleic acid.Oleic acid accounts for up to 70%-80%of EVOO.Secondly,EVOO contains approximately more than 30 phenolic compounds,of which HT is essential for the protection against cardiovascular diseases.In this review,we focused on the potential mechanisms of oleic acid and polyphenols combat cardiovascular diseases risk in terms of oxidative stress,inflammation,blood pressure,endothelial function and cholesterol.This review might provide a reference for the studies on cardiovascular protective effects of EVOO.

Small Cycles Property of Some Cremer Rational Maps and Polynomials

This paper concerns the linearization problem on rational maps of degree d≥2 and polynomials of degree d>2 from the perspective of non-linearizability.The authors introduce a set l_(∞) of irrational numbers and show that if α∈l_(∞),then any rational map is not linearizable and has infinitely many cycles in every neighborhood of the fixed point with multiplier λ=e^(2πiα),Adding more constraints to cubic polynomials,they discuss the above problems by polynomial-like maps.For the family of polynomials,with the help of Yoccoz's method,they obtain its maximum dimension of the set in which the polynomials are non-linearizable.

The design and synthesis of new deep-ultraviolet(DUV)optical materials are important but challenging.It is well known that the polarizability anisotropy of linear[BO_(2)]^(−)is larger than those of[BO_(3)]^(3−)and[BO_(4)]^(5−),which is the better choice for exploring excellent optical materials.Here,we search for such crystals in borate systems based on the unusual fundamental structural unit[BO_(2)]^(−).By combining the linear[BO_(2)]^(−)with the traditional triangular[BO_(3)]^(3−)and tetrahedral[BO_(4)]^(5−)units,a new mixed metal borate,Rb_(5)Ba_(2)(B_(10)O_(17))_(2)(BO_(2))was obtained via high-temperature solution method.It exhibits excellent optical properties including a DUV transmission window(188 nm)and suitable birefringence(0.06).It also has good thermal stability and its crystal plates can be prepared easily.Furthermore,the strategies of designing borates with[BO_(2)]^(−)units have been proposed from the transformation of crystal framework and the preparation method.

Protein crystallization with DNA templates

Protein crystallization plays a significant role in three-dimensional structural analysis and protein pu-rification.It is important to increase the crystallization efficiency,which is possible by adding hetero-geneous templates in crystallization systems.DNA is biologically compatible and artificially designable polymer,which is easy to extract.In this study,single-and double-stranded DNA of precise sequences were designed and used as templates to promote protein crystallization of lysozyme and catalase.In-fluence of DNA,single-stranded DNA with 10,20,40 bases and double-stranded DNA with 10,20,40 base pairs,were investigated.The success rate of obtaining crystals of lysozyme and catalase in equal period was significantly improved with the addition of DNA comparing without templates added.Double-stranded DNA led to higher nucleation rate than that with single-stranded DNA.The promotion of nucleation was more obvious at low concentration of protein solution and with longer chain DNA templates.Crystal number and crystallization rate was enhanced with addition of long double-stranded DNA templates.All the results confirm that DNA is an effective polymer additive to enhance protein crystallization,especially for the application of the scarce protein crystallization.

Heat-resistant alloys with excellent mechanical properties are widely used in various fields,and further improvement in their properties is essential to meet the requirements in new-generation advanced supercritical boilers,nuclear reactors,superheaters,and other new materials applications.To effectively enhance the comprehensive performance of heat-resistant alloys,second-phase particle strengthening has been widely studied,and in the face of different service envi-ronments of advanced heat-resistant steels,the selection of suitable second-phase particles is essential to maximize the performance of these alloys.To this end,three major types of reinforcing phases in heat-resistant alloys such as carbides,rare earth oxides,and intermetallic compounds are summarized.A comparative analysis of the precipitation behavior of the reinforcing phases with different types as well as the risks and means of controlling their use in service,is presented.Key parameters for the application of various types of second-phase particles in heat-resistant alloys are provided to support the design and preparation of new ultrahigh-performance heat-resistant alloys.
