The survey of historic buildings is very important for architectural *** integral survey allows perpetuating the building historical memory,deciphering it for future generations,and recovering it in case of accidental *** Baptistery of Florence survey was done with four measuring methods:the"direct"one,which employs traditional measuring tools;the"indirect"one,which expedites the dimension-gathering process with more preci-sion;and the"photogrammetric"one,which uses snapshots to facilitate the representation process with *** innova tive measuring concept,known here as the"recovery sur-vey",synthetizes graphical reality so that irregularities--due to the project materialization and deterioration over time-disappear;therefore,retrieving the building original ***-umns with their bases,shafts and capitals,as well as entablatures with their architraves,friezes and cornices were under *** three Greek orders(Doric,lonic and Corinthian)together with the two roman orders(Tuscan and Composite)unveiled the classical architecture *** constituents,which reoccur inside and outside the baptistery,were measured as part of these holistic survey and recovery process,to achieve the objective of this research study:the recording of this world historical building through an integral survey and rilievo to decode its significance and symbolism.

We demonstrate that the combination of digital spiral imaging with high-dimensional orbital angular momentum(OAM)entanglement can be used for efficiently probing and identifying pure phase objects,where the probing light does not necessarily touch the object,via the experimental,non-local decomposition of non-integer pure phase vortices in OAM-entangled photon *** entangled photons are generated by parametric downconversion and then measured with spatial light modulators and single-mode *** fractional phase vortices are defined in the idler photons,while their corresponding spiral spectra are obtained non-locally by scanning the measured OAM states in the signal *** conceptually illustrate our results with the biphoton Klyshko picture and the effective dimensionality to demonstrate the high-dimensional nature of the associated quantum OAM *** result is a proof of concept that quantum imaging techniques exploiting high-dimensional entanglement can potentially be used for remote sensing.

Electricity is predicted to be the energy vector that will undergo major changes in the future,and a transition would be observed in the resources such as waste and residual biomass that we use to satisfy the energy ***,this study aims to highlight the main economic and environmental performances of different biowaste-to-energy technologies for small-scale electricity generation by comparing the direct combustion of refined vegetable oil obtained from waste cooking oils(thermal pathway),anaerobic digestion of biowaste(biochemical pathway),and gasification of wood residues(thermochemical pathway).The economic analysis is mainly based on personal experiences in the energy sector and shows an overview of the performance in investment of combined heat and power(CHP)systems,ranging from 100 to 500 kW for a period of 20 *** environmental assessment is conducted considering the life-cycle thinking approach using support from the openLCA software,product environmental footprint(PEF)database,and previous studies that have reported environmental inventory data from real industrial cases.

The hepatitis C virus (HCV) induces lipid accumulation in vitro and in vivo. The pathogenesis of steatosis is due to both viral and host factors. Viral steatosis is mostly reported in patients with genotype 3a, whereas meta-bolic steatosis is often associated with genotype 1 and metabolic syndrome. Several molecular mechanisms responsible for steatosis have been associated with the HCV core protein, which is able to induce gene expres-sion and activity of sterol regulatory element binding protein 1 (SREBP1) and peroxisome proliferator-activat-ed receptor γ (PPARγ), increasing the transcription of genes involved in hepatic fatty acid synthesis. Steatosis has been also implicated in viral replication. In infected cells, HCV core protein is targeted to lipid droplets which serve as intracellular storage organelles. These studies have shown that lipid droplets are essential for virus assembly. Thus, HCV promotes steatosis as an eff icient mechanism for stable viral replication. Chronic HCV in-fection can also induce insulin resistance. In patients with HCV, insulin resistance is more strongly associated with viral load than visceral obesity. HCV seems to lead to insulin resistance through interference of intracellular insulin signalling by HCV proteins, mainly, the serine phosphorylation of insulin receptor-1 (IRS-1) and im-pairment of the downstream Akt signalling pathway. The HCV core protein interferes with in vitro insulin signal-ling by genotype-specif ic mechanisms, where the role of suppressor of cytokine signal 7 (SOCS-7) in genotype 3aand mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) in geno-type 1 in IRS-1 downregulation play key roles. Steatosis and insulin resistance have been associated with f ibrosis progression and a reduced rate of sustained response to peginterferon plus ribavirin.

Sizing and Siting of Battery Energy Storage Systems:A Colombian Case

This paper presents a mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)formulation for sizing and siting of battery energy storage systems(BESSs).The problem formulation seeks to minimize both operation costs and BESS *** proposed model includes restrictions of the conventional securityconstrained unit commitment problem,a piece-wise linear approximation to model power losses,and a linear model of hydro generation *** proposed model is tested in a 6-bus test system and a 15-bus system representing the Colombian power *** the two studied systems,simulation results show that the reduction of operation costs due to the installation of BESSs compensates the investments,under some of the considered technical cost ***,results show that adequate sizing and siting of BESSs reduce renewable energy curtailment in the Colombian power system with high penetration of fluctuating renewable generation.

How can the home range of the Lesser Kestrel be affected by a large civil infrastructure?

Background: The loss of traditional agropastoral systems, with the consequent reduction of foraging habitats and prey availability, is one of the main causes for the fast decline of Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni). To promote the conservation of the Lesser Kestrel and their habitats, here we studied the foraging activities patterns of this species during the breeding season. Methods: Between 2016 and 2017, we captured and tagged 24 individuals with GPS dataloggers of two colonies in Villena (eastern Spain) with the goals of estimating the home range sizes of males and females, evaluating the differences in spatial ecology between two colonies located in different environments: natural and beside a thermosolar power plant, and investigating habitat selection. Results: Considering the distances before July 15, date until which it can be assured that the chicks remain in the nest in our colonies, there were significant differences with the distances to the nest in relation to the colony of the individuals: Lesser Kestrels from the thermosolar power plant colony had a greater average distance. The average size of home range areas was 13.37 km2 according to 95% kernel, and there were also significant differences in relation to colony: the individuals from the thermosolar power plant colony used a larger area (22.03 ± 4.07 km^2) than those from the other colony (9.66 ± 7.68 km^2). Birds showed preference for non-irrigated arable lands and pastures. Conclusions: Despite the differences between the two colonies, the home ranges of both are smaller or similar to those observed in other European colonies. This suggests that Lesser Kestrels continue to have adequate habitats and a good availability of prey. Therefore, the extension and proximity of the plant does not imply a great alteration, which highlights the importance of maintaining the rest of the territory in good conditions to minimize the impact.
