Multi-functionalized and co-doped TiO_(2)/c nanocomposites were derived from the pyrolysis of Ti-MOFs at 800℃under different gaseous atmospheres and their photocatalytic performance were *** gaseous atmosphere during pyrolysis plays a critical role in determining the structural,textural,optical and physicochemical properties of the derived TiO_(2)/c composites due to the synergistic effect of nitrogen-containing species,carboxylate and sulfur functionalized porous carbon as well as N/S co-doped TiO_(2)*** the Ti-MOFs derived TiO_(2)/c composites exclusively possess homogeneously distributed TiO_(2)nanoparticles in a functionalized disc-like porous carbon matrix and demonstrate much enhanced adsorption and photodegradation performance than commercial TiO_(2)under the same *** adsorption of methylene blue(MB)in dark on these TiO_(2)/c composites are dominated with pseudo second-order kinetic model and the high adsorption capacity of MB in dark on composite TiO_(2)/c derived from MIL-125(Ti)in argon is due to its high surface area with predominant mesoporous carbon matrix in the *** composite N-O-TiO_(2)/c derived from NH2-MIL-125(Ti)in water vapor exhibited the highest photodegradation activity with 99.7%MB removal in 3 h under visible light due to the optimal anatase/rutile phasejunction,together with the formation of photoactive oxygen-rich N-O like interstitial/intraband states above the valence band of TiO_(2),as well as the presence of N-containing species and-OH/-cOOH multi-functional groups with superhydrophilic nature of the *** simple one-step and easily modifiable approach can be further employed to modulate homogeneously dispersed multi-functionalized and co-doped metal oxide/carbon nanocomposites for various environment and energy-related applications.

Thermodynamic Feedback between clouds and the Ocean Surface Mixed Layer

A cloud-ocean planetary boundary layer (OPBL) feedback mechanism is presented and tested in this paper. Water vapor, evaporated from the ocean surface or transported by the large-scale air flow, often forms convective clouds under a conditionally unstable lapse rate. The variable cloud cover and rainfall may have positive and negative feedback with the ocean mixed layer temperature and salinity structure. The coupling of the simplified Kuo's (1965) cumulus cloud model to the Kraus-Turner's (1967) ocean mixed layer model shows the existence of this feedback mechanism. The theory also predicts the generation of low frequency oscillation in the atmosphere and oceans.

Macro-and microcirculation patterns of intrahepatic blood flow changes in patients with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia

AIM To evaluated vascular dynamic processes in the liver of hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia(HHT) patients by ultrasound(US) considering quantitative analytic methods. METHODS The imaging features on US and contrast-enhanced ultrasound(cEUS) in 18 patients diagnosed with HHT were retrospectively analyzed. Regarding cEUS, realtime contrast harmonic imaging and sulfur hexafluoridefilled microbubbles were used. RESULTS HVa Ms were identified in all 18 patients. By US, the two major caselitz criteria could be detected in 55.6% patients. "color spots" were detected in 72.2% of the cases. Respecting sonographic grading criteria by Buscarini, grade 3 could be demonstrated most frequent(40%). By cEUS, all the patients showed quick and early hyperenhancement during the arterial phase. Significant lowest time to peak(TTP) and highest area under the curve(AUc) values were identified in the hepatic artery(TTP: 69.8%; AUc: 100%) and highest TTP and lowest AUc in the hepatic parenchyma and the portal vein. cONcLUSION For the first time we analyzed cEUS findings of a group of HHT patients regarding macro- and microcirculation. Our data demonstrate significant differences in TTP and AUc values in the four selected regions: hepatic artery, shunt region, portal vein and hepatic parenchyma.

The effect of fatigue and duration knowledge of exercise on kicking performance in soccer players

Purpose:The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of fatigue upon kicking maximal ball velocity and the target-hitting accuracy of soccer players;and also to examine the effect of the knowledge of the exercise duration upon these 2 ***:Twenty-four semi-professional soccer players participated in this study and performed maximal instep kicks before and after the implementation of an exercise protocol,either with or without knowledge of the duration of this ***:A mixed model of analysis of variance showed that kicking maximal ball velocity was significantly affected(F(5,85)=11.6,pcircuit of the fatigue protocol and then remained *** did not change during the protocol(F(5,75)=0.23,p=0.76,η^2=0.03) and knowing the duration of exercitation did not affect accuracy and velocity development(F(1,23) ≤1.04,p≥0.32,η~2≤0.06).conclusion:These findings demonstrated the potential negative effects of fatigue on kicking ball velocity in soccer but not in the kicking accuracy and that the effect of fatigue may not be progressive over *** or not knowing the duration of exercitation did not affect the results.

E-selectin is a cell-adhesion molecule of the vascular endothelium that promotes essential leukocyte rolling in the early inflammatory response by binding to glycoproteins containing the tetrasaccharide sialyl Lewisx(sLex).Efficient leukocyte recruitment under vascular flow conditions depends on an increased lifetime of E-selectin/ligand complexes under tensile force in a so-called catch-bond binding ***-crystal structures of a representative fragment of the extracellular E-selectin region with sLex and a glycomimetic antagonist thereof reveal an extended E-selectin conformation,which is identified as a high-affinity binding state of E-selectin by molecular dynamics ***-angle X-ray scattering experiments demonstrate a direct link between ligand binding and E-selectin conformational transition under static conditions in *** permits tracing a series of concerted structural changes connecting ligand binding to conformational stretching as the structural basis of E-selectin catch-bond-mediated leukocyte *** detailed molecular view of the binding site paves the way for the design of a new generation of selectin *** is of special interest,since their therapeutic potentialwas recently demonstrated with the pan-selectin antagonists GMI-1070(Rivipansel).

This contribution shows the strong influence of using chloroform instead of THF on the characteristics of thin films of supramolecular block copolymers of poly(styrene-b-4-vinyl pyridine) dip-coated in the so-called "capillarity" regime from solutions containing 1-naphthol or 1-naphthoic *** small molecule content in the dip-coated films was investigated by infrared spectroscopy and the film morphology by atomic force *** was found that the small molecule content in the films is constant with dip-coating rate in the range investigated,but it is higher for 1-naphthoic acid than for *** main morphology observed was in the form of "islands" and "holes",which is typical of flat-on *** findings are related to hydrogen-bonding between the small molecule and pyridine being conserved in chloroform and to the good solubility of both blocks in this solvent,with differences between the two small molecules related to their differing H-bond *** findings contrast strongly with what was observed previously using THF as a solvent,for which the SM content increases with dip-coating rate and the morphologies are mainly spherical and cylindrical in the same parameter range.

Probabilistic hypergraph based hash codes for social image search

With the rapid development of the Internet, recent years have seen the explosive growth of social media. This brings great challenges in performing efficient and accurate image retrieval on a large scale. Recent work shows that using hashing methods to embed high-dimensional image features and tag information into Hamming space provides a powerful way to index large collections of social images. By learning hash codes through a spectral graph partitioning algorithm, spectral hashing(SH) has shown promising performance among various hashing approaches. However, it is incomplete to model the relations among images only by pairwise simple graphs which ignore the relationship in a higher order. In this paper, we utilize a probabilistic hypergraph model to learn hash codes for social image retrieval. A probabilistic hypergraph model offers a higher order repre-sentation among social images by connecting more than two images in one hyperedge. Unlike a normal hypergraph model, a probabilistic hypergraph model considers not only the grouping information, but also the similarities between vertices in hy-peredges. Experiments on Flickr image datasets verify the performance of our proposed approach.

A comparison of simulation versus didactics for teaching ultrasound to Swiss medical students

BAcKGROUND: Point-of-care ultrasound is an increasingly common imaging modality that is used in a variety of clinical settings. Understanding how to most effectively teach ultrasound is important to ensure that medical students learn pre-clinical content in a manner that promotes retention and clinical competence. We aim to assess the effectiveness of simulation-based ultrasound education in improving medical student competence in physiology in comparison to a traditional didactic ultrasound curriculum. METHODS: Subjects were given a pre and post-test of physiology questions. Subjects were taught various ultrasound techniques via 7 hours of lectures over two days. The control group received 2 additional hours of practice time while the experimental group received 2 hours of case-based simulations. A physiology post-test was administered to all students to complete the two-day course. RESULTS: Totally 115 Swiss medical students were enrolled in our study. The mean precourse ultrasound exam score was 39.5% for the simulation group and 41.6% for the didactic group (P>0.05). The mean pre-course physiology exam score was 54.1% for the simulation group and 59.3% for the didactic group (P>0.05). The simulation group showed statistically significant improvement on the physiology exam, improving from 54.1% to 75.3%(Pctic group also showed statistically signifi cant improvement on the physiology exam, improving from 59.3% to 70.0%(PcONcLUSION: Our data indicates that both simulation curriculum and standard didactic curriculum can be used to teach ultrasound. Simulation based training showed statistically signifi cant improvement in physiology learning when compared to standard didactic curriculum.

We report on the development of a microfluidic multiplexing technology for highly parallelized sample analysis via quantitative polymerase chain reaction(PcR)in an array of 96 nanoliter-scale microcavities made from *** PcR array technology features fully automatable aliquoting microfluidics,a robust sample compartmentalization up to temperatures of 95°c,and an application-specific prestorage of reagents within the 25nl *** here presented hybrid silicon–polymer microfluidic chip allows both a rapid thermal cycling of the liquid compartments and a real-time fluorescence read-out for a tracking of the individual amplification reactions taking place inside the *** demonstrate that the technology provides very low reagent carryover of prestored reagentscross talk ratecR cycle,which facilitate a multi-targeted sample analysis via geometric ***,we apply this PcR array technology to introduce a novel digital PcR-based DNA quantification method:by taking the assay-specific amplification characteristics like the limit of detection into account,the method allows for an absolute gene target quantification by means of a statistical analysis of the amplification results.
