Introduction: This study aimed to investigate the epidemiology of genital trichomoniasis in Senegal. It sought to determine the prevalence and risk factors associated with this condition in Senegal. Methodology: The study took place at the university hospital of Pikine in the suburbs of Dakar. For each of the women recruited, socio-demographic data, clinical examination data and the results of direct examination of the vaginal sample were collected in a questionnaire designed for this purpose. Results: A total of 312 women with a mean age of 31.13 (±8.41) years were recruited in this study. The majority of these women (59.94%;95% CI = 54.25 - 65.38), were seen for an infectious diseases assessment. Leucorrhea (58.33%;95% CI = 52.63 - 63.83) and genital discharge on vaginal touch (99.36%;95% CI = 97.45 - 99.89) were the predominant signs on clinical examination. The overall prevalence of vaginal trichomoniasis after direct examination of the specimens was 1.28% (95% CI = 0.41 - 3.47). Only the distribution of this prevalence by occupation was statistically significant (p = 0.0004). Conclusion: The low prevalence of genital trichomoniasis in women and the risk factors associated with it found in this study, which took place about ten years ago, should prompt an update of the data to better define the problem in Senegal.

The optimization of aquaculture production requires the selection of efficient strains. Thus, genetic improvement has become one of the important levers to boost the development of aquaculture. The objective of this study was to carry out genetic characterization of Nile tilapia Oreochromis niloticus, one of the most cultivated fish species in Senegal, in order to select an efficient strain to optimize local fish production. Thus, fish from five different populations (Richard-Toll, ANA, ITACA, Mbodiene and Sauvage) were analyzed, with 15 individuals per population. Genetic diversity and population structure were assessed using molecular genetic analyses by sequence characterized amplified region (SCAR) and microsatellite (SSR) markers. The analyses of the SCARII marker were conducted on four populations (ANA, ITACA, Sauvage and Mbodiene) while microsatellite analyses were conducted on all five populations. The results show high levels of polymorphism of SSR markers, and a high level of observed heterozygosity (Ho), indicating a high within-population genetic variability. These results are in agreement with the AMOVA results, which indicated a high within-population genetic variability (94%). The genetic structure analysis by DAPC indicates that the five populations analyzed are structured into four groups, which are highly heterogeneous because they share common allele individuals. The analysis of the genetic structure by AMOVA showed a low degree of differentiation between the populations (6%), in agreement with the genetic differentiation index (Fst = 0.059). The heterogeneity of studied populations implies a genetic flow over time, which may have existed between the original populations. The overall negative Tajima D values and low genetic differentiation indicate an excess of rare mutations in the populations studied, resulting from a recent population expansion from a limited number of initial breeders isolated in locale hatcheries. High-accuracy geoid determination is an essential goal that many groups of scientists and countries are striving to achieve. Techniques for determining geoid models have evolved over time. Unfortunately, this all-important determination requires relatively substantial technical and financial resources, depending on the type of geoid to be determined. This situation justifies the inadequacy, and sometimes absence, of accurate geoid models in many countries, despite the new challenges of altimetric positioning using space or satellite positioning techniques. This study focuses on the establishment of a geometric geoid model using simplistic techniques that are accessible and applicable in restricted or wide areas, with or without gravimetric data. The study was applied to the Dakar-Thiès-Mbour triangle, the two regions in the extreme west of Senegal that are home to the most infrastructure projects with the highest socio-economic stakes, as well as mines currently being exploited, and therefore the highest stakes in terms of positioning. This study also enabled us to assess the accuracy of a number of global field models in Senegal, which are used by some professionals for altimetric positioning using Global Positioning Satellite Systems (GNSS) in the absence of a local geoid model. The estimated geoid model is based on the determination of undulation at various sample points in the study area. To this end, a campaign of GNSS observations and direct levelling was carried out on the various points spread across the study area. These measurements were then used to determine the undulation at each point. Bilinear interpolation was used to deduce the undulations throughout the study area, based on the altimeter conversion grid. This grid was evaluated using GPS/level control points.
