Effect of piperine on the epididymis of adult male rats

Aim： To study the effect of piperine on the epididymal antioxidant system of adult male rats. Methods： Adult male rats were orally administered piperine at doses of 1 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg body weight each day for 30 consecutive days. Twenty-four hours after the last treatment, the rats were weighed and killed with ether and the epididymis was dissected from the bodies. Sperm collected from the cauda region of the epididymis was used for the assessment of its count, motility and viability. Caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis were separated and homogenized separately to obtain 10 % homogenates. The supernatants were used for the assays of sialic acid, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase, lipid peroxidation and hydrogen peroxide generation. Results： Body weight of the piperine-treated rats remained unchanged. The weights of the caput, corpus and cauda regions of the epididymis significantly decreased at dose of 100 mg/kg. Epididymal sperm count and motility decreased at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg, and sperm viability decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg. Sialic acid levels in the epididymis decreased significantly at 100 mg/kg while significant decrease in the cauda region alone was observed at 10 mg/kg. A significant decline in the activities of superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase, along with an increase in hydrogen peroxide generation and lipid peroxidation were observed at 10 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg. Conclusion： Piperine caused a decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes and sialic acid levels in the epididymis and thereby increased reactive oxygen species levels that could damage the epididymal environment and sperm function.

2020 tropical cyclones in the Philippines: A review

An exploratory study on the use of enzyme activities as sediment tracers:biochemical fingerprints?

Little information exists on the potential of soil enzyme activities,which are sensitive to soil properties and management,for the characterization of sediment sources at the catchment *** objective of this study is to explore and evaluate enzyme activity as tracer for sediment fingerprinting in the Hiv catchment(55 km~2),***,four enzymes were measured from 42 different sampling sites,covering three sediment source areas(rangeland/surface erosion,orchard/surface erosion,and streambank erosion),as well as from 12 sediment samples from reservoir check dams (sediment sinks).The results indicate that,based upon backward mode discriminant analysis,βglucosidase and dehydrogenase,allowed more than 95%of the samples to be correctly assigned to their source *** enzymes were selected as input data for a mixing-model to determine the relative contribution of the sampled sediment *** mean contributions from rangeland, orchard and streambank sources in the study area were estimated as 11.3%,15.1%and 73.7%, *** geochemical tracers,the mean contribution from rangeland,orchard and streambank sources was estimated as 14.1%,9.5%and 74.8%,*** biochemical and geochemical tracers,similar values were obtained(18.7%,10.7%and 70.7%,respectively).Our results indicate that soil enzyme activity allows for a good characterization of sediment sources,and can provide a complementary tool to currently existing sediment fingerprinting ***, the method should be also tested in other regions.

We designed an experiment investigating effects of gaze on speaking behavior during triadic conversations. Understanding the effects of such non-verbal cue on speech and turn taking is crucial for the design of teleconferencing systems and Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVE). We compared speech activities between two conditions: (1) in which subjects experienced gaze synchronized with conversational attention, and (2) in which subjects experienced random gaze. Results showed that subjects significantly speak more when gaze behavior was synchronized with conversational attention. However, covariance analysis showed results were likely due to differences in gaze level rather than gaze synchronization. The result validated the emotional function of gaze as a favorable explanation of gaze effect on human interaction in multiparty conversation.

Pressure drop is an essential parameter in the operation of conical spouted beds(CSB)and depends on its geometric factors and materials *** materials,like biomass,are complex to treat and,unlike other gas–solid contact methods,CSB turn out to be a suitable technology for their *** neural networks were used in this study for the prediction of operating and peak pressure drops,and their performance has been compared with that of empirical correlations reported in the ***,a multi-layer perceptron network with backward propagation was used due to its ability to model non-linear multivariate *** fitting of the experimental data of both operating and peak pressure drop was significantly better than those reported in the literature,specifically in the case of the peak pressure drop,with R^(2) being ***,artificial neural networks have been proven suitable for the prediction of pressure drop in CSB.

Adult progenitor cells activation is a key event in the formation of adult *** Drosophilat formation of abdominal adult trachea depends on the specific activation of tracheal adult progenitors(tracheoblasts)at the Tr4 and Tr5 spiracular *** of these tracheoblasts generates a pool of tracheal cells that migrate toward the posterior part of the trachea by the activation of the branchless/fibroblast growth factor(Bnl/FGF)signaling to form the abdominal adult ***,we show that,in addition to migration,Bnl/FGF signaling,mediated by the transcription factor Pointed,is also required for tracheoblast *** tracheoblast activation relies on the expression of the FGF ligand bnl in their nearby ***,we show that,in the absence of the transcription factor Cut(Ct),Bnl/FGF signaling induces endoreplication of tracheoblasts partially by promoting fizzy-related ***,our results suggest a dual role of Bnl/FGF signaling in tracheoblasts,inducing both proliferation and endoreplication,depending on the presence or absence of the transcription factor Ct,respectively.

Sexual dichromatism,a particular type of sexual dimorphism,occurs in several species and has been associated with sexual *** some cases,the differences are so small that they are imperceptible to humans,but possibly detected by *** objective measurement of color with spectrophotometers and detailed analyses according to the perception ability of the avian eye have revealed that some species that were once considered to be monochromatic,are in fact dichromatic and able to perceive these *** the tropics,the Saffron Finch(Sicalis flaveola) does not present marked sexual dimorphism in coloration,which makes studies in behavioral ecology,natural history and population dynamics *** assess whether there is dichromatism in the species,the reflectance(between 300 and 700 nm) of ten body regions was measured in 196 wild adults in *** was determined using the CHD1 gene on the sex *** spectra were analyzed using:colorimetric variables and the avian visual *** found that reflectance shows a bimodal curve in all body regions,except the *** presented higher reflectance at long wavelengths,while for females this occurred in ultraviolet *** the visual model,we found that there are significant intrasexual differences;however only in crown coloration is there a possible perceived difference between *** conclude that in the Saffron Finch there are color differences between the sexes in all regions considering the physical phenomenon(reflectance),but in general,when evaluating color perception(avian visual model),there are no differences between the sexes in most of the body *** intrasexual differences are significant,indicating the possibility of these being signals that influence social interactions in the species.

We propose a new method to transform a pixel image to the corresponding quantum-pixel using a qubit per pixel to represent each pixels classical weight in a quantum image matrix *** qubits are linear superposition,changing the coefficients level by level to the entire longitude of the gray scale with respect to the base states of the ***,these states are just bytes represented in a binary matrix,having code combinations of 1 or 0 at all pixel *** method introduces a qubit-pixel image representation of images captured by classical optoelectronic methods.
