We present a study of their structure, morphology, electrical and magnetic properties on the (Ca1–xSrx) RuO3 system for x = 0.0, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15 and 1.0. The samples were prepared by the solidstate reaction method in air at ambient pressure and heat in the 700℃ - 800℃ range for 48 h. By X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), we determine a solid solution until x = 0.15. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates that the particle size is 77 - 266 nm. The resistance measurements, as a function of temperature measurements from 7 to 300 K the (Ca1–xSrx) RuO3 system for x = 0.0, 0.07, 0.10, 0.15 and 1.0 show a metallic behaviour. We can even observe that the resistance of the samples is due to the partial substitution of Sr2+ ions and Ru ion valence. Finally, the sample x = 0.07 has a magnetization applied high field to 10 K, whereas that to 300 K does not have a magnetization.

This review summarizes the existing knowledge about the mechanical properties of bamboo scrimber(BS)in literature.According to literature reviews,the strength of BS under different load modes is affected by a series of factors,such as the type of original bamboo,growth position,resin content,treatment method and density.Therefore,different production processes can be adopted according to different requirements,and bamboo scrimbers can also be classified accordingly.In addition,this review summarizes the changes in different factors considered by scholars in the research on the mechanical properties of BS,so that readers can have an overall understanding of the existing research and make more innovative and valuable research on this basis.This review provides and discusses the conclusive observations,the current research gaps and future research directions on the mechanical properties of BS.

Progressive osseous heteroplasia(POH)is an ultra-rare autosomal dominant disabling disorder characterized by heterotopic ossification(HO).It is caused by heterozygous inactivating mutations in the GNAS(guanine nucleotide-binding protein alpha-stimulating activity polypeptide)gene.However,the molecular mechanisms underlying HO remain poorly understood.As a treatment for POH is not yet available,the identification of the mechanisms driving POH in affected tissues using gene expression may be of great help to underestand the molecular basis of POH and develop new therapeutic approaches.

As underground excavations are getting deeper and field stresses increase, the behavior of intact rock blocks plays an increasingly important role in understanding and estimating the overall rock mass strength. To model the brittle behavior of intact rock blocks, the stress–strain curve is usually idealized considering a linear strength mobilization approach(cohesion-weakening-friction-strengthening, CWFS),however, it is well recognized that rock presents a nonlinear behavior in terms of the confining stress.This study extends the strength mobilization in brittle failure of rock using nonlinear criteria. To determine the model parameters, a standard statistical method that uses the complete laboratory stress–strain curves of the intact rock is employed. Several hypotheses of linear and nonlinear models are statistically compared for different types of rock and confining stress levels. Results demonstrate that the best approach to model the brittle failure of rock is to consider a nonlinear strength envelope, such as the Hoek-Brown criterion assuming a residual uniaxial compressive strength different from zero and a mi parameter that increases, both with simultaneous mobilization. This model helps to recreate highconfining conditions and a more realistic transition between peak and post-peak strength. The obtained parameters are discussed and compared with literature values to verify the validity and to develop guidelines for the estimation of parameters, providing an objective mobilization criterion. Finally, the nonlinear model was applied to a finite element code and extended to a tunnel scale in the brittle rock under high-stress conditions. A reasonable fit between the simulations and the in-situ overbreak measurements was found.

During the last decades,advances in the understanding of genetic,cellular,and microstructural alterations associated to Huntington's disease(HD)have improved the understanding of this progressive and fatal illness.However,events related to early neuropathological events,neuroinflammation,deterioration of neuronal connectivity and compensatory mechanisms still remain vastly unknown.Ultra-high field diffusion MRI(UHFD-MRI)techniques can contribute to a more comprehensive analysis of the early microstructural changes observed in HD.In addition,it is possible to evaluate if early imaging microstructural parameters might be linked to histological biomarkers.Moreover,qualitative studies analyzing histological complexity in brain areas susceptible to neurodegeneration could provide information on inflammatory events,compensatory increase of neuroconnectivity and mechanisms of brain repair and regeneration.The application of ultra-high field diffusion-MRI technology in animal models,particularly the R6/1 mice(a common preclinical mammalian model of HD),provide the opportunity to analyze alterations in a physiologically intact model of the disease.Although some disparities in volumetric changes across different brain structures between preclinical and clinical models has been documented,further application of different diffusion MRI techniques used in combination like diffusion tensor imaging,and neurite orientation dispersion and density imaging have proved effective in characterizing early parameters associated to alteration in water diffusion exchange within intracellular and extracellular compartments in brain white and grey matter.Thus,the combination of diffusion MRI imaging techniques and more complex neuropathological analysis could accelerate the discovery of new imaging biomarkers and the early diagnosis and neuromonitoring of patients affected with HD.

Landslides are highly dangerous phenomena that occur in different parts of the world and pose significant threats to human populations. Intense rainfall events are the main triggering process for landslides in urbanized slope regions, especially those considered high-risk areas. Various other factors contribute to the process;thus, it is essential to analyze the causes of such incidents in all possible ways. Soil moisture plays a critical role in the Earth’s surface-atmosphere interaction systems;hence, measurements and their estimations are crucial for understanding all processes involved in the water balance, especially those related to landslides. Soil moisture can be estimated from in-situ measurements using different sensors and techniques, satellite remote sensing, hydrological modeling, and indicators to index moisture conditions. Antecedent soil moisture can significantly impact runoff for the same rainfall event in a watershed. The Antecedent Precipitation Index (API) or “retained rainfall,” along with the antecedent moisture condition from the Natural Resources Conservation Service, is generally applied to estimate runoff in watersheds where data is limited or unavailable. This work aims to explore API in estimating soil moisture and establish thresholds based on landslide occurrences. The estimated soil moisture will be compared and calibrated using measurements obtained through multisensor capacitance probes installed in a high-risk area located in the mountainous region of Campos do Jordão municipality, São Paulo, Brazil. The API used in the calculation has been modified, where the recession coefficient depends on air temperature variability as well as the climatological mean temperature, which can be considered as losses in the water balance due to evapotranspiration. Once the API is calibrated, it will be used to extrapolate to the entire watershed and consequently estimate soil moisture. A significant portion of Landslide Early Warning Systems (LEWS) relies on the definition of operational thresholds and the monitoring of cumulative rainfall for alert issuance. These thresholds can be obtained in various ways, but most often they are based on previous landslide data. This approach introduces several limitations. For instance, there is a requirement for the location to have been previously monitored in some way to have this type of information recorded. Another significant limitation is the need for information regarding the location and timing of incidents. Despite the current ease of obtaining location information (GPS, drone images, etc.), the timing of the event remains challenging to ascertain for a considerable portion of landslide data. Concerning rainfall monitoring, there are multiple ways to consider it, for instance, examining accumulations over various intervals (1 h, 6 h, 24 h, 72 h), as well as in the calculation of effective rainfall, which represents the precipitation that actually infiltrates the soil. However, in the vast majority of cases, both the thresholds and the rain monitoring approach are defined manually and subjectively, relying on the operators’ experience. This makes the process labor-intensive and time-consuming, hindering the establishment of a truly standardized and rapidly scalable methodology on a large scale. In this work, we propose a Landslides Early Warning System (LEWS) based on the concept of rainfall half-life and the determination of thresholds using Cluster Analysis and data inversion. The system is designed to be applied in extensive monitoring networks, such as the one utilized by Cemaden, Brazil’s National Center for Monitoring and Early Warning of Natural Disasters.

Stone formation is induced by an increased level of urine crystallization promoters and reduced levels of its inhibitors.Crystallization inhibitors include citrate,magnesium,zinc,and organic compounds such as glycosaminoglycans.In the urine,there are various proteins,such as uromodulin(Tamm-Horsfall protein),calgranulin,osteopontin,bikunin,and nephrocalcin,that are present in the stone matrix.The presence of several carboxyl groups in these macromolecules reduces calcium oxalate monohydrate crystal adhesion to the urinary epithelium and could potentially protect against lithiasis.Proteins are the most abundant component of kidney stone matrix,and their presence may reflect the process of stone formation.Many recent studies have explored the proteomics of urinary stones.Among the stone matrix proteins,the most frequently identified were uromodulin,S100 proteins(calgranulins A and B),osteopontin,and several other proteins typically engaged in inflammation and immune response.The normal level and structure of these macromolecules may constitute protection against calcium salt formation.Paradoxically,most of them may act as both promoters and inhibitors depending on circumstances.Many of these proteins have other functions in modulating oxidative stress,immune function,and inflammation that could also influence stone formation.Yet,the role of these kidney stone matrix proteins needs to be established through more studies comparing urinary stone proteomics between stone formers and non-stone formers.

Hippocampus serves as a pivotal role in cognitive and emotional processes,as well as in the regulation of the hypothalamus-pituitary axis.It is known to undergo mild neurodegenerative changes during normal aging and severe atrophy in Alzheimer's disease.Furthermore,dysregulation in the hippocampal function leads to epilepsy and mood disorders.In the first section,we summarized the most salient knowledge on the role of glial cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor and its receptors focused on aging,cognition and neurodegenerative and hippocampal-related neurological diseases mentioned above.In the second section,we reviewed the therapeutic approaches,particularly gene therapy,using glial cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor or its gene,as a key molecule in the development of neurological disorders.In the third section,we pointed at the potential of regenerative medicine,as an emerging and less explored strategy for the treatment of hippocampal disorders.We briefly reviewed the use of partial reprogramming to restore brain functions,non-neuronal cell reprogramming to generate neural stem cells,and neural progenitor cells as source-specific neuronal types to be implanted in animal models of specific neurodegenerative disorders.

A Review on the Mechanical Behaviour of Bamboo Reinforced Concrete Beams

In light of the increasing demand for sustainable building materials,the effectiveness of bamboo utilization in various fields has become the object of scientists'close attention.The increased interest in bamboo is explained by its sustainable characteristics,which make it the most preferred material for environmentally friendly and cost-effective construction compared to conventional ones.Applicability of bamboo is vast and diverse:from decora-tion and furniture to structural members and re inforcement.Due to the low price,rich resources,and high ela sticity,bamboo culms have also been used as an alternative to steel reinforcement in concrete structures.Exten-sive research has been done to assess feasibilty of bamboo reinforcement in structural elements made of concrete.This article discusses the mechanical properties of three types of structural bamboo reinforced concrete(BRC)beams.Existing original papers on the mechanical behaviour of structural BRC members were studied,and the fundamental properties induding typical failure modes,reasons of failure,load displacement relationships,and influencing factors were discussed and described.Observations and conclusions of the review will contribute to deep understanding of structural feasibility of BRC beams and serve as a base for future research.
