In order to develop an automated segmentation system for computed Tomography （cT） brain images, a new approach which consists of several unsupervised segmcotation techniques was introduced. The system segments the cT brain images into three partitions, i. e., abnormalities, cerebrospinal fluid （cSF）, and brain matter. Our approach consists of two phase-segmentation methods. In the first phase segmentation, k-means and fuzzy cmeans （FcM） methods were implemented to segment and transform the images into the binary images. Based on the connected component in binary images, a decision tree was employed for the annotation of normal or abnormal regions. In the second phase segmentation, the modified FcM with population-diameter independent （PDI） segmentation was applied to segment the images into cSF and brain matter. The experimental results have shown that our proposed system is feasible and yield satisfactory results.

AIM： To identify molecular markers shared across South African esophageal squamous cell carcinoma （EScc） cell lines using o/togenetics, fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） and single nucleotide polymorphism （SNP） array copy number analysis. METHODS： We used conventional cytogenetics, FISH, and multicolor FISH to characterize the chromosomal rearrangements of five EScc cell lines established in South Africa. The whole genome copy number profile was established from 250K SNP arrays, and data was analyzed with the cNAT 4.0 and GISTIc software. tions involved the following chromosomal regions and genes： 11q13.3 （ccND1, FGF3, FGF4, FGF19, MYEOV）, 8q24.21（c-MYc, FAM84B）, 11q22.1-q22.3 （B[Rc2, BIRc3）, 5p15.2 （cTNND2）, 3qll.2-q12.2 （MINA） and 18p11.32 （TYMS, YES1）. The significant deletions included 1p31.2-p31.1 （cTH, GADD45a, DIRAS3）, 2q22.1 （LRPIB）, 3p12.1-p14.2 （FHIT）, 4q22.1-q32.1 （cASP6, SMAD1）, 8p23.2-q11.1 （BNIP3L） and 18q21.1-q21.2 （SMAD4, Dcc）. The 3p11.2 translocation breakpoint was shared across four cell lines, supporting a role for genes involved at this site, in particular, the EPHA3 gene which has previously been reported to be deleted in ***： The finding that a significant number of genes that were amplified （FGF3, FGF4, FGF19, ccND1 and c-MYc） or deleted （SFRP2 gene） are involved in the Wnt and fibroblast growth factor signaling pathways, suggests that these pathways may be activated in these cell lines.

Models to predict injury, physical fitness failure and attrition in recruit training: a retrospective cohort study

In recent years there has been an increasing interest in developing spatial statistical models for data sets that are seemingly spatially *** lack of spatial structure makes it difficult,if not impossible to use optimal predictors such as ordinary kriging for modeling the spatial variability in the *** many instances,the data still contain a wealth of information that could be used to gain flexibility and precision in *** this paper we propose using a combination of regression analysis to describe the large-scale spatial variability in a set of survey data and a tree-based stratification design to enhance the estimation process of the small-scale spatial *** this approach,sample units（i.e.,pixel of a satellite image） are classified with respect to predictions of error attributes into homogeneous classes,and the classes are then used as strata in the stratified *** variables used as a basis of stratification included terrain data and satellite imagery.A decision rule was used to identify a tree size that minimized the error in estimating the variance of the mean response and prediction uncertainties at new spatial *** approach was applied to a set of n=937 forested plots from a state-wide inventory conducted in 2006 in the Mexican State of *** final models accounted for 62% to 82% of the variability observed in canopy closure（%）,basal area（m2·ha-1）,cubic volumes（m3·ha-1） and biomass（t·ha-1） on the sample *** spatial models provided unbiased estimates and when averaged over all sample units in the population,estimates of forest structure were very close to those obtained using classical estimates based on the sampling strategy used in the state-wide *** spatial models also provided unbiased estimates of model variances leading to confidence and prediction coverage rates close to the 0.95 nominal rate.

microRNAs(miRNAs)are a class of non-coding functional small RNA composed of 21e23 nucleotides,having multiple associations with liver ***-associated miRNAs are roughly classified into pro-fibrosis or anti-fibrosis *** former is capable of activating hepatic stellate cells(HScs)by modulating pro-fibrotic signaling pathways,mainly including TGF-b/SMAD,WNT/b-catenin,and Hedgehog;the latter is responsible for maintenance of the quiescent phenotype of normal HScs,phenotypic reversion of activated HScs(aHScs),inhibition of HScs proliferation and suppression of the extracellular matrix-associated gene ***,several miRNAs are involved in regulation of liver fibrosis via alternative mechanisms,such as interacting between hepatocytes and other liver cells via exosomes and increasing autophagy of ***,understanding the role of these miRNAs may provide new avenues for the development of novel interventions against hepatic fibrosis.

In this work, we demonstrated the successful construction of metal-free zero- dimensional/two-dimensional carbon nanodot （cND）-hybridized protonatedg=c3N4 （pcN）（cND/pcN） heterojunction photocatalysts b; means of electrostatic attraction. We experimentally found that cNDs with an average diameter of 4.4 nm were uniformly distributed on the surface of pcN using electron microscopy analysis. The cND/pcN-3 sample with a cND content of 3 wt.% showed thehighest catalytic activity in the cO2 photoreduction process under visible and simulated solar light. This process results in the evolution of cH4 and cO. Thetotal amounts of cH4 and cO generated by the cND/pcN-3 photocatalyst after 10 h of visible-light activity were found to be 29.23 and 58.82 molgcatalyst-1, respectively. These values were 3.6 and 2.28 times higher, respectively, than thearn＊ounts generated when using pcN alone. The corresponding apparent quantum efficiency （AQE） was calculated to be 0.076%. Furthermore, the cND/pcN-3 sample demonstrated high stability and durability after four consecutive photoreaction cycles, with no significant decrease in the catalytic activity.
