Background:To compare intraocular pressure(IOP)changes following topical dexamethasone administration for 1 month in keratoconic versus normal ***:This is a retrospective,single-center,non-randomized case series evaluation of 350 *** groups were formed:normal/control Group A(n_(A)=73),eyes that underwent excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy;and keratoconic(KCN)Group B(n_(B)=277),eyes that were subjected to partial laser photorefractive keratectomy combined with collagen cross-linking(The Athens Protocol).All eyes received the same post-operative regimen of topical dexamethasone 0.1%for at least 1 *** applanation tonometry IOP readings and central corneal thickness(CCT)measurements were *** with induced ocular hypertension(OHT,defined as post-operative IOP higher than 21 mmHg),were identified and correlated to refractive procedure,gender,and corneal ***:At 4 weeks postoperatively,OHT was noted on 27.4%(20/73 eyes)in Group A,and 43.7%(121/277 eyes)in KCN Group B,(pmonths post-operatively(following 5-months of discontinuing topical dexamethasone treatment and commencing treatment of IOP-lowering medications),OHT rate was 1.8%in Group A and 3.9%in the KCN Group ***:This study demonstrates a potentially significant pre-disposition of keratoconic eyes to the development of steroid-induced OHT.

We used the geological map and published rock density measurements to compile the digital rock density model for the Hong Kong *** then estimated the average density for the whole *** to our result,the rock density values in Hong Kong vary from 2101 to 2681 kg·m^(-3).These density values are typically smaller than the average density of 2670 kg·m^(-3),often adopted to represent the average density of the upper continental crust in physical geodesy and gravimetric geophysics *** finding reflects that the geological configuration in Hong Kong is mainly formed by light volcanic formations and lava flows with overlying sedimentary deposits at many locations,while the percentage of heavier metamorphic rocks is very low(less than 1%).This product will improve the accuracy of a detailed geoid model and orthometric heights.

The Pb isotopic composition of rocks is widely used to constrain the sources and mobility of melts and hydrothermal fluids in the Earth's crust. In many cases, the Pb isotopic composition appears to represent mixing of multiple Pb reservoirs. However, the nature, scale and mechanisms responsible for isotopic mixing are not well known. Additionally, the trace element composition of sulphide minerals are routinely used in ore deposit research, mineral exploration and environmental studies, though little is known about element mobility in sulphides during metamorphism and deformation. To investigate the mechanisms of trace element mobility in a deformed Witwatersrand pyrite(FeS_2), we have combined electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD) and atom probe microscopy(APm). The results indicate that the pyrite microstructural features record widely different Pb isotopic compositions, covering the entire range of previously published sulphide Pb compositions from the Witwatersrand basin. We show that entangled dislocations record enhanced Pb, Sb, Ni, Tl and Cu composition likely due to entrapment and short-circuit diffusion in dislocation cores. These dislocations preserve the Pb isotopic composition of the pyrite at the time of growth(~3 Ga) and show that dislocation intersections, likely to be common in deforming minerals, limit trace element mobility. In contrast, Pb, As, Ni, Co, Sb and Bi decorate a highangle grain boundary which formed soon after crystallisation by sub-grain rotation *** isotopic composition within this boundary indicates the addition of externally-derived Pb and trace elements during greenschist metamorphism at ~2 Ga. Our results show that discrete Pb reservoirs are nanometric in scale, and illustrate that grain boundaries may remain open systems for trace element mobility over 1 billion years after their formation.

Our genomic DNA is under constant assault from endogenous and exogenous sources,which needs to be resolved to maintain cellular *** eukaryotic DNA repair enzyme Tyrosyl-DNA phosphodiesterase I(Tdp1)catalyzes the hydrolysis of phosphodiester bonds that covalently link adducts to ***1 utilizes two catalytic histidines to resolve a growing list of *** DNA-adducts can be divided into two groups:small adducts,including oxidized nucleotides,RNA,and non-canonical nucleoside analogs,and large adducts,such as(drug-stabilized)topoisomerase-DNA covalent complexes or failed Schiff base reactions as occur between PARP1 and *** Tdp1 substrates are generated by chemotherapeutics linking Tdp1 to cancer drug resistance,making a compelling argument to develop small molecules that target Tdp1 as potential novel therapeutic ***1’s unique catalytic cycle,which is centered on the formation of Tdp1-DNA covalent reaction intermediate,allows for two principally different targeting strategies:(1)catalytic inhibition of Tdp1 catalysis to prevent Tdp1-mediated repair of DNA-adducts that enhances the effectivity of chemotherapeutics;and(2)poisoning of Tdp1 by stabilization of the Tdp1-DNA covalent reaction intermediate,which would increase the half-life of a potentially toxic DNA-adduct by preventing its resolution,analogous to topoisomerase targeted poisons such as topotecan or *** catalytic Tdp1 mutant that forms the molecular basis of the autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disease spinocerebellar ataxia with axonal neuropathy best illustrates this concept;however,no small molecules have been reported for this ***,we concisely discuss the development of Tdp1 catalytic inhibitors and their results.

A 64-year-old-female presented with progressive left foot weakness, low back and radicular pain after a left sided S1 transforaminal epidural steroid injection(ESI). magnetic resonance imaging revealed left side L5-S1 large extradural heterogeneous mass with layering areas suggesting different stages of hematoma formation. Past medical history was significant for peripheral vascular disease and transient ischemic attacks, for which she took aspirin and clopidogrel(antiplatelet agent). These medications were discontinued one week prior to ESI. Although synovial cysts associated with facet arthropathy are common, hemorrhagic cyst is not. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first reported case of symptomatic hemorrhagic lumbar facet synovial cyst following ESI on a patient taking antiplatelet medications.
