The aim of this study was to use dried corn silk powder variety of VL Baby corn-1 for formulation of flavoured herbal tea with different combination of Thyme(Trachyspermum ammi),Clove(Syzygium aromaticum),Cinnamon powder(Cinnamomum verum),Timur(Zanthoxylum alatum),Tulsi(Holy basil)(Ocimum tenuiflorum),Gandraini(Achillea millefolium),Lemon grass(Cymbopogon citratus),Blend(Clove+Timur+Gandraini),and one only corn silk without any other herbs and to know antioxidant properties of developed *** of sensory evaluation experiment showed that all combinations were liked *** grass flavour followed by cinnamon and clove blend obtained highest *** phenolic content,total flavonoid content,DPPH free radical scavenging activity and total antioxidant activity for all flavour are analyzed and *** on DPPH free radical scavenging activity indicated that corn silk tea had 81.215±0.75μg/mL whereas blend with Timur had significant highest value and Thyme blend had lowest value 64.20±0.40 among all eight different blends with corn *** values for total antioxidant capacity blends with Timur(Zanthoxylum alatu)in corn silk showed significantly(P<0.05)highest value and Clove,Timur,Gandraini blends got lowest value.

AIM: To determine the rate and possible contributors for post-pars plana vitrectomy(PPV) epiretinal membrane(ERM) in patients treated for rhegmatogenous retinal detachment(RRD). METHODS: This prospective, nonrandomized study comprised 47 consecutive patients(47 eyes) with acute RRD treated with 23 G post-PPV. All participants were followed prospectively for 6 mo for the development of ERM using spectral domain optical coherence tomography. Preoperative and intraoperative data were collected by questionnaires to surgeons. Main outcome measure was the percentage of the ERM formation following post-PPV for RRD. RESULTS: ERM developed postoperatively in 23 eyes(48.9%), none necessitated surgical removal. There was a statistically significant difference between patients with and without ERM postoperatively in preoperative best corrected visual acuity(median log MAR 1.9 vs 0.3, respectively;P=0.003) rate of macula-off(69.6% vs 37.5%, respectively, P=0.028), and rate of ≥5 cryo-applications(55.6% and 18.8%, respectively, P=0.039). ERM developed mainly between the 1st and 3rd months of follow-up. Macula-off status increased the risk of ERM, with the odds ratio of 3.81(P=0.031). CONCLUSION: ERM is a frequent post RRD finding, and its development is associated with macula-off RRD.

Primary molar ankylosis with infraocclusion can retard dental arch development and cause dental asymmetry. Despite its widespread prevalence, little is known about its molecular etiology and pathogenesis. To address this, RNA sequencing was used to generate transcriptomes of furcal bone from infraoccluded(n = 7) and non-infraoccluded(n = 9) primary second molars, all without succeeding biscuspids. Of the 18 529 expressed genes, 432(2.3%) genes were differentially expressed between the two groups(false discovery rate < 0.05). Hierarchical clustering and principal component analysis showed clear separation in gene expression between infraoccluded and non-infraoccluded samples. Pathway analyses indicated that molar ankylosis is associated with the expression of genes consistent with the cellular inflammatory response and epithelial cell turnover. Independent validation using six expressed genes by immunohistochemical analysis demonstrated that the corresponding proteins are strongly expressed in the developing molar tooth germ, in particular the dental follicle and inner enamel epithelium. The descendants of these structures include the periodontal ligament, cementum, bone and epithelial rests of Malassez;tissues that are central to the ankylotic *** therefore propose that ankylosis involves an increased inflammatory response associated with disruptions to the developmental remnants of the dental follicle and epithelial rests of Malassez.

Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) infection is associated with anogenital and head & neck squamous epithelial (HNSCC) tumors, which altogether cause about 550,000 new cases every year. Several evidences suggest that the microbiota could have a role on the inflammatory, epithelial mesenchymal transition and tumorigenesis processes promoted by HR-HPV infection, yet the mechanisms involved remain to be clarified. In this review we report the state of the art on this topic and on the most promising in vitro developed models for studying the host-pathogen interactions. Using MEDLINE, several terms were searched and combined to select the most pertinent papers. The investigation was limited to the international indexed articles published in PubMed in the last 10 years. This review reports the latest knowledge in the field of the microbial-associated anogenital tumors and HNSCC. In addition, we also discuss the in vitro epithelial culture systems that reproduce the pathophysiological features of the tumoral microenvironment and the in vivo response to microbial agents, thus representing a useful tool for analyzing at cellular and molecular levels the role played by infective agents in tumorigenesis.

The investigated mantle bodies from the External Ligurians(Groppo di Gorro and ***)show evidences of a complex evolution determined by an early high temperature metasomatism,due to percolating melts of asthenospheric origin,and a later metasomatism at relatively high temperature by hydrothermal fluids,with formation of *** Groppo di Gorro,the serpentinization and chloritization processes obliterated totally the pyroxenite protolith,whereas at *** relics of peridotite and pyroxenite protoliths were preserved from *** rodingite parageneses consist of diopside+vesuvianite+garnet+calcite+chlorite at Groppo di Gorro and garnet+diopside+serpentine±vesuvianite±prehnite±chlorite±pumpellyite at *** inclusion measurements show that rodingitization occurred at relatively high temperatures(264-334℃ at 500 bar and 300-380℃ at 1 kbar).Garnet,the first phase of rodingite to form,consists of abundant hydrogarnet component at Groppo di Gorro,whereas it is mainly composed of grossular and andradite at *** last stage of rodingitization is characterized by the vesuvianite *** nucleation requires high Ca and low silica fluids,whereas the formation of vesuvianite does not need CO2-poor *** formation of calcite at Groppo di Gorro points to mildly oxidizing conditions compatible with hydrothermal fluids;the presence of andradite associated with serpentine and magnetite at *** suggests Fe^3+-bearing fluids with fO2 slightly higher than iron-magnetite *** propose that the formation of the studied rodingite could be related to different pulses of hydrothermal fluids mainly occurring in an oceancontinent transitional setting and,locally,in an accretionary prism associated with intra-oceanic subduction.

Background Although clozapine is the most effective drug for treatment-resistant schizophrenia,its use remains restricted in clinical practice in *** delay in initiating treatment with clozapine and its impact on disease outcome needs *** To identify the implications of delaying clozapine initiation in clinical outcomes among people with treatment-resistant *** Subjects with treatment-resistant schizophrenia,stabilised on clozapine monotherapy,were recruited from the outpatient clinic of a general hospital psychiatry unit offering tertiary care services in Thrissur district,Kerala,India.A retrospective cohort design was employed,and information on duration of illness,total duration of treatment and duration of treatment with clozapine was *** symptom status was measured using the Positive and Negative Syndrome *** associated with higher symptom scores were analysed using an independent sample f test,Spearman correlation and multiple linear *** Forty subjects stabilised on long-term clozapine therapy formed the study *** mean dose of clozapine used in the study population was 200 *** mean duration of antipsychotic treatment before starting clozapine was 89.3 months(7.4 years).The duration of treatment before starting clozapine was found to have a significant positive association with the total Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale score(correlation coefficient 0.40;p=0.01)and negative symptom score(correlation coefficient 0.33;p=0.04).The multiple regression analysis adjusting for covariates showed that the duration of treatment before starting clozapine was an independent factor associated with a higher negative symptom score in the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(slope p=0.05;p=0.02;R2=0.27).Conclusion Poor treatment outcomes in treatmentresistant schizophrenia could be secondary to a delay in initiating clozapine therapy.

In this study,we investigated the transcriptional spatio-temporal dynamics of the taste 1 receptor(T1R)gene family repertoire in seabream(Sparus aurata[sa]),during larval ontogeny and in adult *** early larval development,sa T1R expression arises heterochronously,*** extraoral taste-related perception in the gastrointestinal tract(GIT)anticipates first exogenous feeding(at 9 days post hatching[dph]),followed by the buccal/intraoral perception from 14 dph onwards,supporting the hypothesis that the early onset of the molecular machinery underlying sa T1R expression in the GIT is not induced by food but rather genetically *** adulthood,we characterized the expression patterns of sa T1R within specific tissues(n=4)distributed in oropharingeal,GIT and brain regions substantiating their functional versatility as chemosensory signaling players to a variety of biological functions beyond oral taste ***,we provided for the first time direct evidences in fish for m RNA coexpression of a subset of sa T1R genes(mostly sa T1R3,*** common subunit of the heterodimeric T1R complexes for the detection of“sweet”and“umami”substances),with the selected gut peptides ghrelin(ghr),cholecystokinin(cck),hormone peptide yy(pyy)and proglucagon(pg).Each peptide defines the enteroendocrine cells(ECCs)identity,and establishes on morphological basis,a direct link for T1R chemosensing in the regulation of fish digestive ***,we analyzed the spatial gene expression patterns of 2 taste signaling components functionally homologous to the mammalian G(i)a subunit gustducin,namely sa G(i)a1 and sa G(i)a2,and demonstrated their co-localization with the sa T1R3in EECs,thus validating their direct involvement in taste-like transduction mechanisms of the fish *** conclusion,data provide new insights in the evolutionary conservation of gut sensing in fish suggesting a conserved role for nutrient sensors modulating entero-endocrine secretion.

Systematic review of health-related quality of life after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer

This study is aimed to assess the long-term healthrelated quality of life （HRQL） of patients after esophagectomy for esophageal cancer in comparison with established norms, and to evaluate changes in HRQL during the different stages of follow-up after esophageal resection. A systematic review was performed by searching medical databases （Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Library） for potentially relevant studies that appeared between January 1975 and March 2011. Studies were included if they addressed the question of HRQL after esophageal resection for esophageal cancer. Two researchers independently performed the study selection, data extraction and analysis processes. Twenty-one observational studies were included with a total of 1282 （12-355） patients. Five studies were performed with short form-36 （SF-36） and 16 with European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer （EORTC） QLQ c30 （14 of them also utilized the disease-specific OESI8 or its previous version OES24）.The analysis of long-term generic HRQL with SF-36 showed pooled scores for physical, role and social function after esophagectomy similar to United States norms, but lower pooled scores for physical function, vitality and general health perception. The analysis of HRQL conducted using the Global EORTC C30 global scale during a 6-mo follow-up showed that global scale and physical function were better at the baseline. The symptom scales indicated worsened fatigue, dyspnea and diarrhea 6 mo after esophagectomy. In contrast, however, emotional function had significantly improved after 6 mo. In conclusion, short- and long-term HRQL is deeply affected after esophagectomy for cancer. The impairment of physical function may be a long-term consequence of esophagectomy involving either the respiratory system or the alimentary tract. The short- and long-term improvement in the emotional function of patients who have undergone successful operations may be attributed to the impression that they have survive

The strawberry tree （Arbutus unedo L.） is an underutilized, drought tolerant, fire resistant species with a south western distribution in Europe, and with ecological and putative socio-economical impact in Portugal and Mediterranean countries. Our aim was to develop an appropriate set of molecular markers to enable genetic diversity to be assessed and to fingerprint Arbutus unedo genotypes for breeding and conservation purposes in Portugal. Twenty-seven trees from a broad geographic range were screened with 20 random amplified polymorphic DNA （RAPD primers） and 11 microsatellite markers （SSR）. The RAPDs generated 124 bands, 57.3% of which were polymorphic, with an expected heterozygosity of 27%. We cross-amplified 11 SSR primers developed for Vaccinium spp., and 5 were found to be polymorphic in A. unedo, with 75% of expected heterozygosity, a number of alleles of 11.6, a null allele frequency of 7.6% and a polymorphic information content of 71%. Although the SSRs were more polymorphic and informative than the RAPDs, both markers displayed high genetic variability with the gathered data. No geographic pattern was observed in the genetic variation distribution based on both marker systems, and the lack of correlation between genetic and geographical matrices was confirmed by Mantel tests. Likely, no correlation was found between pairwise SSR and RAPD band-sharing matrices. These results and their implications on A. unedo breeding and conservation programs are discussed.
