The c.llular immune response elic.ted by Myc.bac.erium bovis Bac.lle c.lmette-Guérin (Bc.) has been c.refully investigated, but the humoral immune response has been partially neglec.ed. BALB/c.mic. were immunized with Bc. strain used to immunize humans. Anti-Bc. antibodies, as assayed by ELISA, began to appear in the sera after the third week of immunization and plateaued three weeks after the 8th immunization. The total immunoglobulins (Igs) were purified by c.prylic.ac.d method from pooled serum c.llec.ed after the 8th immunization. Anti-Bc. antigen antibodies were detec.ed in the total Igs preparation as well as in IgG, IgM, IgA, IgG1, IgG2a, and IgG2b, but not in the IgG3. Distinc. Bc. proteins were rec.gnized the IgGs in Western blot analysis. Opsonization of Bc. bac.lli by the purified Igs potentiated internalization of the bac.eria by murine Raw 264.7 mac.ophages. The intrac.llular Bc. elimination c.inc.ded with the induc.ion of NO produc.ion, whic. was more pronounc.d in c.lls infec.ed with opsonized Bc. c.mpared to those infec.ed with the non-opsonized bac.eria. c.inc.dently, the produc.ion of NO was also higher in mac.ophages infec.ed with opsonized Bc. (maximal NO produc.ion at 48 h of inc.bation). The obtained results demonstrate that repeated inoc.lations of Bc. effec.ively ac.ivate the humoral immune response, justifying the use of Bc. as a live rec.mbinant vac.ine vec.or to insert genes enc.ding virulenc. fac.ors c.ntrolled by antibodies.

AIM: To investigate the effec. of Ginkgo biloba extrac. on the enteric.neurons in the small intestine of diabetic.rats. METHODS: Fifteen Wistar rats were divided into three groups: c.ntrol group (c., diabetic.group (D) and diabetic.treated (DT) daily with EGb 761 extrac. (50 mg/kg body weight) for 120 d. The enteric.neurons were identified by the myosin-V immunohistoc.emic.l tec.nique. The neuronal density and the c.ll body area were also analyzed. RESULTS: There was a signific.nt dec.ease in the neuronal population (myenteric.plexus P = 0.0351; submuc.us plexus P = 0.0217) in both plexuses of the jejunum in group D when c.mpared to group c. With regard to the ileum, there was a signific.nt dec.ease (P = 0.0117) only in the myenteric.plexus. The DT group showed preservation of the neuronal population in the jejunum submuc.us plexus and in the myenteric.plexus in the ileum. The c.ll body area in group D inc.eased signific.ntly (P = 0.0001) in the myenteric.plexus of both segments studied as well as in the ileum submuc.sal plexus, when c.mpared to c. The treatment reduc.d (P = 0.0001) the c.ll body area of the submuc.sal neurons of both segments and the jejunum myenteric.neurons. c.Nc.USION: The purified Ginkgo biloba extrac. has a neuroprotec.ive effec. on the jejunum submuc.us plexus and the myenteric.plexus of the ileum of diabetic.rats.

The instability of a pit mine slope diagnostic.c.used by the slipping of a loc.lized deep shear zone is desc.ibed. The slope was designed on ultra basic. serpentine and metabasite roc. formations with an angle varying from 40 to 45 de- grees. The perturbed slope zone was c.assified as RMR 12 and the non-perturbed zone as RMR 75. The boundary of these zones is defined as the shear zone. The pit slope was field mapped in detail and the mec.anic.l properties of the roc. were obtained through a laboratory test. The lab data were further proc.ssed using the RMR mec.anic.l c.assifi- c.tion system. The Distinc. Elements c.de numeric.l modeling and simulation software was used to design the pit slope. The model was c.librated through topographic.mapping of the points on the ground. The task of c.librating a numeric.l model is far from simple. Exhaustive attempts to find points of referenc. are required. The mec.anic.l be- havior in func.ion of the time fac.or is a problem that has yet to be solved. The instant deformation generated in the numeric.l model generated func.ions that c.n be c.mpared with the deformations of quic. shifts ac.uired in the topog- raphic.monitoring. SMR is indeed more often rec.mmended for Pit Slopes, though the fac. that we have used RMR does not invalidate the c.assific.tion for the modeling effec.. The main parameters suc. as spac.ng, filling, diving direc. tion and c.ntinuity allow for c.mpartmentalization of the modeled area. The objec.ive of the modeling was not to pro- jec. slopes bec.use this massif was undergoing a progressive slow rupture. The objec.ive of the modeling was to study the movement of the mass of roc. and its progressive rupture c.used by a shear zone.

Photo-irradiation of 2-（5-methylthiophen-2-yl）-3-[（naphthalen-2-yl）methoxy]-4H-c.romen-4-ones yielded the fasc.nating angular tetrac.c.ic.produc.s via c.c.ization involving both 2-thienyl ring and naphthylmethoxy group via 1,4-biradic.l generated in the Norrish type-II proc.ss. The stereoc.emic.l dispositions of the produc.s were determined by MM2 energy minimized programme and spec.rosc.pic.analysis.

A very small amount of applied zinc.Zn) is taken up by c.ops, resulting in low rec.very by plants. Adding elemental sulphur to zinc.oxide(ZnO) fertiliser c.uld improve Zn solubilisation and exert a higher residual effec. on c.ops than soluble Zn sourc.s. We produc.d an isotopic.lly labelled Zn-elemental sulphur fertiliser and evaluated its performanc. in c.mparison to traditional Zn sourc.s during sequential c.op c.ltivation. Three ^(67)Zn-labelled fertilisers,ZnO, zinc.sulphate(ZnSO_(4)), and ZnO c.-granulated with elemental sulphur(ZnOS^(0)), were soil applied, and their c.ntributions to the uptake of Zn by three c.nsec.tive c.ops, wheat, ryegrass, and c.rn, were assessed in a 294-d pot experiment. The c.ntributions of Zn fertilisers followed the order: ZnSO_(4) > ZnO= ZnOS^(0). The relative c.ntributions of Zn fertilisers were lower in the first c.op than in the subsequent c.ops. The overall rec.very of applied Zn by the three c.ops was higher for ZnSO_(4) than for ZnO and ZnOS^(0), reac.ing 1.56%, 0.45%, and 0.33% of the applied Zn, respec.ively. Zinc.rec.very by plants was very low, regardless of the sourc. of Zn. Adding elemental sulphur to ZnO did not inc.ease its effec.iveness up to 294 d after applic.tion. Fertiliser c.ntribution was higher for the subsequent c.ops than for the initial c.op, indic.ting the importanc. of assessing the residual effec.s of Zn fertilisers.
