Carbon, Water, Ecological Footprints, Energy and Nutritional Densities of Omnivore and Vegan Culinary Preparations

This study aimed to evaluate energy and nutritional densities, water, carbon and ecological footprints, cost, of omnivorous and vegan main courses served in a university restaurant in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted with 40 main dish-type preparations, 20 of which are omnivorous and 20 vegans, served at lunch, to assess energy and nutritional densities, carbon, water and ecological footprints and cost of preparations. We propose a healthy and sustainable preparation index (HSPI) to evaluate from the list, the best preparation options considering the nutritional quality combined with the impact that the food causes on the environment. Preparations with the highest HSPI were considered the best options because they have a good relation between the nutritional profile and the environmental impact. Results: Regarding energy (ED), nutritional (ND) densities and water, carbon and ecological footprints, omnivorous preparations presented much higher values when compared to the vegan ones. The omnivorous preparations had the highest average cost (R$ 3.44). Regarding the HSPI, vegan preparations showed better rates than omnivorous preparations. Food services should promote healthy and sustainable choices by offering menus with low energy density preparations, high nutritional density, and low environmental impact, considering local realities and customer needs. Conclusion: This study was able to evaluate the best preparation options, considering the nutritional profile and the food impact on the environment, using health and sustainable indicators. Obtaining indicators of preparations regarding healthiness and sustainability, in practice, translates environmental aspects in menu planning, which contribute to changes in food consumption patterns in food services, in addition to contributing to the reduction of the environmental impact. Indiscriminate disposal of residues of domestic and/or industrial origin in aquatic ecosystems resulting from urban activities causes concern about their effects on the fauna. Substances absorbed by animals, such as those cited above, are metabolized by the liver, as it is the main target organ of several pollutants and also exercises basic vital functions in the organism. For this reason the liver is used as the main and most reliable biomarker in environmental studies. Thus the objective of the present study was to identify hepatic alterations resulting from exposure to water contaminated by a few commercial brands of biodegradable detergents and their effects when present together with several other contaminants found in nature. For such, a solution of 1 ppm of biodegradable detergents and water from an urban lake were tested on two widely distributed native Brazilian fish (Astyanax altiparanae and Prochilodus lineatus). Several alterations were found on the liver, including cytoplasm vacuolization, nuclear displacement, macrophage recruitment and reduced liver glycogen, showing a degenerative process in the liver of the fish, due to the action of contaminants.

In this work we use the Hamilton-Jacobi theory to show that locally all the Hamiltonian systems with n degrees of freedom are equivalent. That is, there is a canonical transformation connecting two arbitrary Hamiltonian systems with the same number of degrees of freedom. This result in particular implies that locally all the Hamiltonian systems are equivalent to that of a free particle. We illustrate our result with two particular examples;first we show that the one-dimensional free particle is locally equivalent to the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator and second that the two-dimensional free particle is locally equivalent to the two-dimensional Kepler problem.

Study of the Reactivity of (100) Felodipine Surface Model Based on DFT Concepts

In this study, Density Functional Theory including a dispersion correction is employed to model and analyze the structural, electronic and local reactivity of the (100) surface of felodipine. The surface energy calculated at the Generalized Gradient Approximation (GGA) level, along with plane waves as basis set and ultrasoft pseudopotentials, shows that the (100) surface is the most stable as compared to the (010) and (110) ones. In particular, we have focused on performing a quantitative study of the reactivity of the surface by means of the Fukui function and through the HOMO and LUMO populations. Our results can be related to some applications in the pharmaceutical chemistry of this compound.

Studies of biodiversity dynamics have been cast on either long(systematics)or short(ecology)time scales,leaving a gap in coverage for moderate time scales of decades to ***-scale biodiversity information resources now available offer opportunities to fill this gap for many parts of the world via detailed,quantitative comparisons of assemblage composition,particularly for regions without rich time series *** explore the possibility that such changes in avifaunas across the United States and Canada before and after the first three decades of marked global change(i.e.,prior to 1980 versus after 2010)can be reconstructed and characterized from existing primary biodiversity *** an illustration of the potential of this methodology for sites even in regions not as well sampled as the United States and Canada,we also explored changes at a single site in Mexico(Chichén-Itzá).We analyzed two large-scale datasets:one summarizing bird records in the United States and Canada before 1980,and one for the same region after *** used probabilistic inventory completeness analyses to identify sites that have avifaunas that have likely been inventoried more or less *** prepared detailed comparisons between the two time periods to analyze species showing distributional changes over the time period *** identified 139 sites on a 0.05°grid that were demonstrably well-inventoried before 1980 in the United States and Canada,of which 108 were also well-inventoried after *** presence/absence patterns between the two time periods for 601 bird species,we found significant spatial autocorrelation in overall avifaunal turnover(species gained and lost),but not in numbers of species *** noted potential northward retractions of ranges of several species with high-latitude(boreal)distributions,while other species showed dominant patterns of population loss,either rangewide(e.g.,Tympanuchus cupido)or regionally(e.g.,Thryomanes bewickii).We dev

Purpose:This study aims at reporting the experience of a cancer hospital’s multiprofessional team with surgery patients in performing cytoreductive surgeries associated with hyperthermic intraperitoneal ***:It is a reporting about the experience of the multiprofessional team at AC Camargo Cancer Center’s surgery center,which operates in cytoreductive surgeries with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy,thus guaranteeing the surgery patient’s ***:No safety report for the surgery patient subjected to intraperitoneal hypothermic chemotherapy was found in the ***,the surgery center’s multiprofessional team’s practice was based on standards for manipulating chemotherapeutic agents and for safely administering medication.A checklist was elaborated for cytoreductive surgeries with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy based on the surgery patient safety protocol and the institution’s multiprofessional team’s ***:From the multiprofessional team’s experiences in cytoreductive surgeries with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy,the importance of elaborating a checklist to promote the quality of assistance and guarantee patient safety during the entire intraoperative phase became evident.
