Mutagenic and cytotoxic potential of Endosulfan and Lambda-cyhalothrin—In vitro study describing individual and combined effects of pesticides

Excessive use of pesticides poses increased risks to non target species including humans. In the developing countries, lack of proper awareness about the toxic potential of pesticides makes the farmer more vulnerable to pesticide linked toxicities, which could lead to diverse pathological conditions. The toxic potential of a pesticide could be determined by their ability to induce genetic mutations and cytotoxicity. Hence, determination of genetic mutation and cytotoxicity of each pesticide is unavoidable to legislate health and safety appraisal about pesticides. The objective of current investigation was to determine the genotoxic and cytotoxic potential of Endosulfan（EN） and Lambda-cyhalothrin（LC）; individually and in combination. 3-（4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl）-2,5-Diphenyltetrazolium Bromide（MTT） assay was utilized to determine cytotoxicity, while two mutant histidine dependent Salmonella strains（TA98, TA100） were used to determine the mutagenicity of EN and ***, mutagenicity assay was conducted with and without S9 to evaluate the effects of metabolic activation on mutagenicity. Even though a dose dependent increase in the number of revertant colonies was detected with EN against both bacterial strains, a highly significant（p 〈 0.05） increase in the mutagenicity was detected in TA98 with S9. In comparison, data obtained from LC revealed less mutagenic potential than EN. Surprisingly,the non-mutagenic individual-concentrations of EN and LC showed dose dependent mutagenicity when combined. Combination of EN and LC synergistically induced mutagenicity both in TA98 and TA100. MTT assay spotlighted comparable dose dependent cytotoxicity effects of both pesticides. Interestingly, the combination of EN and LC produced increased reversion and cytotoxicity at lower doses as compared to each pesticide, concluding that pesticide exposure even at sub-lethal doses can produce cytotoxicity and genetic mutations, which could lead to carcinogenicity.

Assessing effectiveness of nature-based solution with big earth data: 60 years mangrove plantation program in Bangladesh coast

Background In the climate change context, nature-based solution(NBS) is considered one of the effective tools to increase the resilience of socio-ecological system. The concept coincides with the government's attempts of afforestation and reforestation programs that have been going on for 60 years in Bangladesh. This study, therefore, envisaged understanding how NBS(mangrove afforestation and reforestation) works to promote climate change resilience through the synthetization of remote sensing-based big earth data, statistical tools, and models. The study took the entire coast of Bangladesh except for Sundarbans Reserve Forest and rolled back to 1962 to work on 60 years' time series data. Declassified CORONA satellite imagery along with Landsat satellite imagery was used, which is the firstever attempt in the remote sensing-based ecosystem work in *** The study's main innovation is to spatially establish the effectiveness of the NBS. The study critically assessed and estimated stable lands and their socio-economic benefits as part of the effectiveness of the NBS. As part of the NBS-derived benefits in the context of climate change, it estimated the sequestrated carbon in mangrove forests.A significant positive relationship was observed between the increase of mangroves and stable lands. Near about 448,011 ha of agricultural land was stabilized due to the NBS intervention whose economic value is 18,837 million USD. In addition, 29,755.71 kt of carbon have been sequestrated due to NBS *** The concept of NBS is still in the development stage and very little or no work has been done so far in measuring and labeling the effectiveness of the NBS. Therefore, our study can innovatively contribute to the scientific community to show the effectiveness of the NBS in three domains(social, economic and ecological) in the changing climatic scenario.

The continuous monitoring of the machine is beneficial in improving its process reliability through reflected power function *** is substantial for identifying and removing errors at the early stages of production that ultimately benefit the firms in cost-saving and quality *** current study introduces control charts that help the manufacturing concerns to keep the production process in *** presents an exponentially weighted moving average and extended exponentially weighted moving average and then compared their *** percentiles estimator and the modified maximum likelihood estimator are used to constructing the control *** findings suggest that an extended exponentially weighted moving average control chart based on the percentiles estimator performs better than exponentially weightedmoving average control charts based on the percentiles estimator and modified maximum likelihood ***,these results will help the firms in the early detection of errors that enhance the process reliability of the telecommunications and financing industry.

Diabetic Retinopathy(DR)is a common complication of diabetes mellitus that causes lesions on the retina that affect *** detection of DR can lead to irreversible *** manual diagnosis process of DR retina fundus images by ophthalmologists is time consuming and ***,Classical Transfer learning models are extensively used for computer aided detection of DR;however,their maintenance costs limits detection performance ***,Quantum Transfer learning is a better option to address this problem in an optimized *** significance of Hybrid quantum transfer learning approach includes that it performs ***,our proposed methodology aims to detect DR using a hybrid quantum transfer learning *** build our model we extract the APTOS 2019 Blindness Detection dataset from Kaggle and used inception-V3 pre-trained classical neural network for feature extraction and Variational Quantum classifier for stratification and trained our model on Penny Lane default device,IBM Qiskit BasicAer device and Google Cirq Simulator *** models are built based on PyTorch machine learning *** bring about a contrast performance rate between classical and quantum *** proposed model achieves an accuracy of 93%–96%on the quantum hybrid model and 85%accuracy rate on the classical ***,quantum computing can harness quantum machine learning to do work with power and efficiency that is not possible for classical computers.

Development of multi-physics numerical simulation model to investigate thermo-mechanical fatigue crack propagation in an autofrettaged gun barrel

In this research,a detailed multi-physics study has been carried out by numerically simulating a solid fractured gun barrel for 20 thermo-mechanical *** numerical model is based on thermal effects,mechanical stress fields and fatigue crack ***-plastic material data of modified AISI 4340 at temperatures ranging from 25 to 1200℃and at strain rates of 4,16,32 and 48 s^(-1) was acquired from high-temperature compression *** was used as material property data in the simulation *** boundary conditions applied are kept similar to the working gun barrel during continuous firing.A methodology has been provided to define thermo-mechanically active surface-to-surface type interface between the crack faces for a better approximation of stresses at the crack *** of results from non-autofrettaged and autofrettaged simulation models provide useful information about the evolution of strains and stresses in the barrel at different points under combined thermo-mechanical loading cycles in both *** effect of thermal fatigue under already induced compressive yield due to autofrettage and the progressive degradation of the accumulated stresses due to thermo-mechanical cyclic loads on the internal surface of the gun barrel(mimicking the continuous firing scenario)has been *** between energy release rate at tips of varying crack lengths due to cyclic thermo-mechanical loading in the non-autofrettaged and autofrettaged gun has been carried out.

A fossil-bearing locality near Padhri village,Dhok Pathan,55 km away from the tehsil Dina,Jhelum District,in the Potwar Plateau,Middle Siwaliks,Punjab,northern Pakistan,is significantly rich in mammalian *** site has provided an abundant mammalian fossil fauna of Late Miocene age from the Dhok Pathan Formation(Fm.).The recovered material belongs to four families:Equidae(horses),Rhinocerotidae(rhinos),Bovidae(cows),and Suidae(pigs).We discovered a new skull of hipparionine Hipparion theobaldi from this locality along with 22 specimens from the associated assemblage of fossil *** recovered material includes seven other species:the aceratheriine Chilotherium intermedium,boselaphines Tragoportax punjabicus,Selenoportax vexillarius,Pachyportax latidens,the antelope Gazella lydekkeri and suinine Propotamochoerus *** specimens are isolated teeth,fragments of maxilla,mandibles and horn *** Dhok Pathan *** generally composed of claystone,siltstone and sandstone beds and,based on the mammalian fauna,the Padhri fossil locality is dated as Late ***99 s formation was deposited in a subtropical paleoenvironment and the predominance of fossil bovids indicates extremely moist conditions with small but frequent standing water bodies.

Ensuring water security by utilizing roof-harvested rainwater and lake water treated with a low-cost integrated adsorption-filtration system

Drinking water is supplied through a centralized water supply system and may not be accessed by communities in rural areas of *** study investigated the performance of a low-cost, self-prepared combined activated carbon and sand filtration(CACSF) system for roofharvested rainwater and lake water for potable use. Activated carbon was self-prepared using locally sourced coconut shell and was activated using commonly available salt rather than a high-tech procedure that requires a chemical reagent. The filtration chamber was comprised of local,readily available sand. The experiments were conducted with varying antecedent dry intervals(ADIs) of up to 15 d and lake water with varying initial chemical oxygen demand(COD) concentration. The CACSF system managed to produce effluents complying with the drinking water standards for the parameters p H, dissolved oxygen(DO), biochemical oxygen demand(BOD5), COD, total suspended solids(TSS), and ammonia nitrogen(NH_3-N). The CACSF system successfully decreased the population of Escherichia coli(E. coli) in the influents to less than 30 CFU/m L. Samples with a higher population of E. coli(that is, greater than 30 CFU/m L) did not show 100% removal. The system also showed high potential as an alternative for treated drinking water for roof-harvested rainwater and class II lake water.

Control Charts for the Shape Parameter of Power Function Distribution under Different Classical Estimators

In practice,the control charts for monitoring of process mean are based on the normality *** the performance of the control charts is seriously affected if the process of quality characteristics departs from *** such situations,we have modified the already existing control charts such as Shewhart control chart,exponentially weighted moving average(EWMA)control chart and hybrid exponentially weighted moving average(HEWMA)control chart by assuming that the distribution of underlying process follows Power function distribution(PFD).By considering the situation that the parameters of PFD are unknown,we estimate them by using three classical estimation methods,i.e.,percentile estimator(P.E),maximum likelihood estimator(MLE)and modified maximum likelihood estimator(MMLE).We construct Shewhart,EWMA and HEWMA control charts based on P.E,MLE and *** have compared all these control charts using Monte Carlo simulation studies and concluded that HEWMA control chart under MLE is more sensitive to detect an early shift in the shape parameter when the distribution of the underlying process follows power function distribution.
