Identification of proteins by mass spectrometry （MS） is an essential step in proteomic studies and is typically accomplished by either peptide mass fingerprinting （PMF） or amino acid sequencing of the peptide. Although sequence information from MS/MS analysis can be used to validate PMF-based protein identification, it may not be practical when analyzing a large number of proteins and when highthroughput MS/MS instrumentation is not readily available. At present, a vast majority of proteomic studies employ PMF. However, there are huge disparities in criteria used to identify proteins using PMF. Therefore, to reduce incorrect protein identification using PMF, and also to increase confidence in PMF-based protein identification without accompanying MS/MS analysis, definitive guiding principles are essential. To this end, we propose a value-based scoring system that provides guidance on evaluating when PMF-based protein identification can be deemed sufficient without accompanying amino acid sequence data from MS/MS analysis.

The turnip fly, delia floralis Fall6n （diptera： Anthomyiidae） is an important insect pest of brassica vegetable crops in the holarctic region. different populations have strongly varying temperature requirements for fly emergence, a challenge for accurate prediction of activity. This study focused on diapause development in one early and one late emerging phenotype. The physiological state after various treatments was deduced from emergence data. Our results showed a slow diapause progression at chilling conditions for both populations and diapause ended about 7 months after pupae were formed for the early population. For the late population held at 4℃ diapause did not end, no matter how long the duration of chilling. These pupae required a period with elevated temperatures above 6~C to continue development. At constant non-chilling conditions （18℃） from the time pupae were formed both populations completed diapause most rapidly. These results indicate that chilling delayed, rather than accelerated development and was not a prerequisite for diapause development. For post-diapause, results indicated a linear relationship between rate of development and temperature within the range of 6-18℃and a theoretical base temperature for development of about 2℃ for both populations. In conclusion, d. floralis pupae are in diapause throughout a long winter period, and delayed emergence of the late population appears to be caused by prolonged diapause regulated by a developmental temperature threshold. The study has added information on the biology of turnip fly populations, a prerequisite for improved pest control.

This article describes the development of BP's Fischer-Tropsch catalyst, used for the conversion of carbon monoxide and hydrogen into liquid hydrocarbons. It covers the 18 year period from the early eighties, when laboratory scale preparations and micro-reactors were heavily used, right through to the present day with the commercial scale manufacture and proving of the finished catalyst in BP's new ＄86 million gas to liquids demonstration facility in Nikiski, Alaska. Extensive performance testing and scale-up experiments have been successfully carried out, all proof that a laboratory preparation can indeed be translated into a commercial manufacturing process. In addition, the resulting catalyst does not only meet the process design targets, but also exhibits enhanced stability and is tolerant to carbon dioxide. Above all, a commercial scale, fixed bed Fischer-Tropsch catalyst is now available and ready for licensing. Manufacturing procedures and quality control have all been successfully detailed and transferred to the commercial manufacturer.

Secondary lignocellulosic biomass has proved to be useful as an energy source through its oxidation by means of combustion *** accordance with the above,in this paper,we wanted to study the ash from urban pruning residues that are generated in cities in the *** such as Licania tomentosa,Azadirachta indica,Ficus benjamina,Terminalia catappa,Leucaena leucocephala,Prosopis juliflora and Pithecellobium dulce were selected because they have been previously studied and showed potential for thermal energy *** materials were calcined in an oxidizing atmosphere and characterized by X-ray diffraction and fluorescence,scanning electron microscopy with microchemistry,BET surface area,thermal gravimetric analysis,and differential scanning *** pH and apparent density were also *** results show high basicity materials(average pH 10),a behavior associated with the presence of chemical elements such as calcium,potassium,magnesium,chlorine,phosphorus,and ***,these materials have a very significant amorphous fraction(between 49%and 74.5%),the dominant crystalline phases are calcite,arcanite,sylvite,and *** ashes have low surface area and do not exceed 13 m^(2)/*** characteristic morphological aspects were observed in these ashes:a morphology of rounded grains where silicon content is highlighted,and lamellar morphologies where the presence of chlorine is ***,these ashes show four significant mass loss events(400℃,430℃,680℃,and 920℃),causing mass losses that vary between 25%and 40%.Through this study,it was possible to establish that,from a chemical point of view,these ashes are less dangerous in comparison with those of a mineral coal that was used as a ***,they require additional treatments for their disposal due to their high *** of their composition,these ashes have the potential to be used in the ceramic and cement industries,and in the manuf

AIM To determine morbidity and mortality in this specific patient group and also to assess for any independent associations between do Not Resuscitate(dNR) status and increased post-operative morbidity and *** We conducted a propensity score matched retrospective analysis using de-identified data from the American College of Surgeons' National Surgical Quality Improvement Project(ACS NSQIP) for all patients undergoing hip fracture surgery over a 7 year period in hospitals across the United States enrolled in ACS NSQIP with and without do Not Resuscitate Status. We measured patient demographics including dNR status, co-morbidities, frailty and functional baseline, surgical and anaestheticprocedure data, post-operative morbidity/complications, length of stay, discharge destination and *** Of 9218 patients meeting the inclusion criteria, 13.6% had a dNR status, 86.4% did not. Mortality was higher in the dNR status compared to the non-dNR group, at 15.3% vs 8.1% and propensity score matched multivariable analysis demonstrated that dNR status was independently associated with mortality(OR = 2.04, 95%CI: 1.46-2.86, P dditionally, analysis of the propensity score matched cohort demonstrated that dNR status was associated with a significant, but very small increased likelihood of post-operative complications(0.53 vs 0.43 complications per episode; OR = 1.21; 95%CI: 1.04-1.41, P = 0.004). Cardiopulmonary resuscitation and unplanned reintubation were significantly less likely in patients with dNR *** Whilst dNR status patients had higher rates of postoperative complications and mortality, dNR status itself was not otherwise associated with increased morbidity. dNR status appears to increase 30-d mortality via ceilings of care in keeping with a dNR status, including withholding reintubation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Pharmaceutical co-crystals have been explored by many researchers as a strategy to optimize physicochemical properties of solid-state *** improvements of solubility,bioavailability,and the reduced tendency for phase transformation occurrence,are factors that highlight benefits of pharmaceutical co-crystals among other solid *** to the Biopharmaceutical Classification System(BCS),non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs(NSAIds)are class Ⅱ drugs,which have low aqueous solubility and therefore co-crystallization has the potential to optimize NSAId product *** this review,we highlight the recent progress made on NSAIds co-crystals,their co-formers,synthesis,methods and use,while we underline some promising results on in vitro and in vivo co-crystal properties.A celecoxib-tramadol co-crystal reaches phase Ⅲ clinical trials,showing greater analgesic activity than both individual *** aqueous solubility of the co-crystal formed between l-proline and diclofenac is very high in comparison with the pure *** co-crystals with urea and thiourea have an increase of drug release of almost 60%.Co-crystal design brings a new perspective in drug development since the co-former used can also be a biologically active component allowing to combine different anti-inflammatory drugs,which have an incredible spectrum of application due to the analgesic,anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Two prime issues can detrimentally affect animals that have been equipped with tags:(i)the effect of the cap-ture and restraint process;and(ii)the effect of the tag *** work examines some of the issues surround-ing quantification of tag effects on wild animals for both restrained and free-living animals.A new method to quantify stress effects based on monitoring ventilation rates in relation to activity is suggested for restrained an-imals which may help improve the practice of handling *** is also suggested that various metrics,many derived from accelerometers,can be examined in tagged wild animals to examine the change in behaviors over time with a view to having a better understanding of welfare issues,assuring the quality of recorded data and in-forming best practice.

deformation micromechanisms of two-phase titanium aluminide alloys have been investigated by deformation tests and electron microscope observations. Interaction mechanisms of perfect and twinning dislocations with the lamellar interfaces were characterized with respect to the factors governing the multiplication and the slip paths of the dislocations. Thermally activated processes controlling the dislocation mobility were described in terms of activation volumes and activation *** analysis is aimed at the identification of the dislocation processes operating under deformation conditions which are relevant for practical applications.
