The levels and partitioning of genetic diversity and inbreeding depression were investigated in Tupistra pingbianensis,a narrow endemic of southeast Yunnan,China,characterized by a naturally fragmented distribution due to extreme specialization on a rare habitat *** genetic diversity and patterns of genetic variation within and among 11 populations were analyzed using amplified fragment length polymorphism markers with 97 individuals across its whole geographical *** levels of genetic variation were revealed both at the species level(P 99 = 96.012%;H t = 0.302) and at the population level(P 99 = 51.41%;H s = 0.224).Strong genetic differentiation among populations was also detected(F ST = 0.2961;θⅡ = 0.281),which corresponded to results reported for typical animal-pollinated,mixed selfing,and outcrossing plant *** result was consistent with mating patterns detected by our pollination *** indirect estimate of gene flow based on θⅡ was low(N m = 0.64).Special habitat and its life history traits might play an important role in shaping the genetic diversity and the genetic structure of this species.A pollination experiment also failed to detect significant inbreeding depression upon F 1 fruit set,seed weight,and germinate rate *** a naturally rare species,*** is not seriously genetically impoverished and likely to have adapted to tolerating a high level of inbreeding early in its history,we propose this species need only periodic monitoring to ensure their continued persistence,but not intervention to remain viable.

background Rectal biopsy for the diagnosis for Hirschsprung's disease(HD)can be performed in several *** rectal biopsy(SRB)is the most widely used method for neonates and younger infants while open strip biopsy(OSB)is reserved for older *** notions suggest that SRB should not be used in older infants due to perceived thicker fibrous tissue in their rectal walls leading to higher rates of inconclusive *** study aims to compare the inconclusive rates of both methods in children of different age *** A retrospective study were carried out with patients aged 13 years who underwent SRB or OSB during a 4-year period in a single *** biopsies were performed on patients with HD with previous endorectal pull-through surgeries *** outcomes were rates of inconclusive results for SRB and OSB overall and when divided into different age *** 79 biopsies(57 SRB and 22 OSB)were included in the study.12 biopsies(9 SRB and 3 OSB)were deemed *** was no significant difference in the rate of inconclusive results between patients underwent SRB and OSB overall(15.8%vs 13.6%,p=1.000).The same results were obtained when patients were divided into under one year and over one year groups or other different age groups(30.0%vs 33.3%,p=1.000).Conclusions Despite low biopsy numbers,our study suggests that SRB provides comparable rates of inconclusive results with OSB in children of all age groups.

Background The expression of genes encoding a number of pathogenetic pathways involved in colorectal cancer could potentially act as prognostic markers. Slurry parameters were controlled prior to spray-drying to visualize and govern an understanding of which parameters govern hollow coring and granule morphology during spray-drying. An aqueous alumina using a polyvinyl alcohol binder (PVA) system was analyzed and granules were processed by altering the slurry specific gravity and viscosity value prior to spray-drying. Spray-dried granules were uniaxial dry-pressed at varying moisture contents to show the plasticizing effects of moisture during compaction. A novel characterization method using a field emission electron microscope (FESEM) was implemented to image the green microstructures of the granules and compacted samples. Slurries with a higher specific gravity and viscosity resulted in denser granules with spherical shapes. Viscosity affected the binder segregation during the spray-drying process. Granules stored at higher moisture contents resulted in denser compacts with fewer intergranular pores and cracks along granule boundaries. Using a FESEM resulted in higher resolution for green microstructural characterization.
