Background Our previous study has reported that supplementation of oligosaccharide-based polymer enhances gut health and disease resistance of pigs infected with enterotoxigenic ***(ETEC)F18 in a manner similar to *** objective of this study was to investigate the impacts of oligosaccharide-based polymer or antibiotic on the host metabolic profiles and colon microbiota of weaned pigs experimentally infected with ETEC *** Multivariate analysis highlighted the differences in the metabolic profiles of serum and colon digesta which were predominantly found between pigs supplemented with oligosaccharide-based polymer and *** relative abundance of metabolic markers of immune responses and nutrient metabolisms,such as amino acids and carbohydrates,were significantly differentiated between the oligosaccharide-based polymer and antibiotic groups(q2.0).In addition,pigs in antibiotic had a reduced(P<0.05)relative abundance of Lachnospiraceae and Lactobacillaceae,whereas had greater(P<0.05)Clostridiaceae and Streptococcaceae in the colon digesta on d 11 post-inoculation(PI)compared with d 5 *** The impact of oligosaccharide-based polymer on the metabolic and microbial profiles of pigs is not fully understood,and further exploration is ***,current research suggest that various mechanisms are involved in the enhanced disease resistance and performance in ETEC-challenged pigs by supplementing this polymer.

Despite high initial response rates,acute myeloid leukemia(AML)treated with the BCL-2-selective inhibitor venetoclax(VEN)alone or in combinations commonly acquires *** performed gene/protein expression,metabolomic and methylation analyses of isogenic AML cell lines sensitive or resistant to VEN,and identified the activation of RAS/MAPK pathway,leading to increased stability and higher levels of MCL-1 protein,as a major acquired mechanism of VEN resistance.

Tea leaf’s microstructure and ultrastructure response to low temperature in indicating critical damage temperature

To find out the critical damage temperature of tea leaf,a new method of subzero treatment was provided by fitting the air temperature data from six heavy frost ***,the study explored the characteristics of Fuding Dabai tea plant response to low temperature stress of 2,0,2,4,8,10 and15C by observing the microstructure and ultrastructure changes of the *** samples were collected in an ambient temperature of 8.6C which served as *** electron microscopy(SEM)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)were used to observe the microstructure and ultrastructure of stomata and *** observation results indicated that stomata of tea leaves have an obvious low temperature stress when the temperature was lower than2*** extent of opening of the stomata increased and enhanced guard cell protection of tea leaves against cold ***,dehydration,shrinkage and deformation of cells occurred as the temperature decreased from2C to15*** observations showed that the cell nucleus,cell walls,chloroplasts and mitochondria all had normal structure at a temperature of 8.6C where the membrane and granum lamella were clearly *** the temperature decreased to2C,the membrane system of tea leaf was the first to be damaged and the cell walls became ***,the leaf microstructure and ultrastructure showed obvious changes at2C,which might define the critical damage temperature for freeze damage of Fuding Dabai *** strategy based this critical damage temperature is useful for wind machine frost protection in tea fields within the Yangtze River region.

William Morris davis: Father of Geomorphology or Father of Geology’s Unrecognized Paradigm Problem

An often unrecognized problem is the geology and glacial history paradigm’s inability to explain topographic map drainage system and erosional landform evidence, which means geology research studies rarely address that type of topographic map evidence. The problem originated in the late 19th century with William Morris davis who is sometimes called the father of geomorphology and was one of the first geologists to interpret what in the late 19th century were newly available topographic maps. An 1889 davis paper describes selected drainage system evidence observed on an advance copy of the 1890 Doylestown (Pennsylvania) topographic map and an 1892 Ward paper written after discussions with davis describes additional selected drainage system evidence seen on the same map. Both papers fail to mention the majority of the Doylestown map’s drainage system features including most barbed tributaries, asymmetric drainage divides, and through (dry) valleys crossing major drainage divides. Had davis used all of the map’s drainage system and erosional landform evidence he should have recognized the map evidence shows headward erosion of an east-oriented Neshaminy Creek valley captured southwest-oriented streams which headward erosion of the south-oriented Delaware River valley and its east-oriented tributary Tohickon Creek valley had beheaded. Consciously or unconsciously, davis chose not to alert future investigators that Doylestown topographic map evidence did not support his yet-to-be-published Pennsylvania and New Jersey erosion history interpretations and instead davis proceeded to develop and promote erosion history interpretations which the map evidence did not support.

The Current Immune Function of Hepatic Dendritic Cells

While only a small percentage of the liver as dendritic cells, they play a major role in the regulation of liver immunity. Four major types of dendritic cell subsets include myeloid CD8α^-B220^-, lymphoid CD8α^＋B220^-, plasmacytoid CD8α^-B220^＋, and natural killer dendritic cell with CD8α^-B220^-NK1.1^＋ phenotype. Although these subsets have slightly different characteristics, they are all poor naive T cell stimulators. In exchange for their reduced capacity for allostimulation, hepatic DCs are equipped with an enhanced ability to secrete cytokines in response to TLR stimulation. In addition, they have increased level of phagocytosis. Both of these traits suggest hepatic DC as part of the innate immune system. With such a high rate of exposure to the dietary and commensal antigens, it is important for the hepatic DCs to have an enhanced innate response while maintaining a tolerogenic state to avoid chronic inflammation. Only upon secondary infectivity does the hepatic DC activate memory T cells for rapid eradication of recurring pathogen. On the other hand, overly tolerogenic characteristics of hepatic DC may be responsible for the increase prevalence of autoimmunity or liver malignancies.

Universal adaptive optics for microscopy through embedded neural network control

The resolution and contrast of microscope imaging is often affected by aberrations introduced by imperfect optical systems and inhomogeneous refractive structures in *** optics(AO)compensates these aberrations and restores diffraction limited performance.A wide range of AO solutions have been introduced,often tailored to a specific microscope type or *** now,a universal AO solution-one that can be readily transferred between microscope modalities-has not been *** propose versatile and fast aberration correction using a physics-based machine learning assisted wavefront-sensorless AO control(MLAO)*** previous ML methods,we used a specially constructed neural network(NN)architecture,designed using physical understanding of the general microscope image formation,that was embedded in the control loop of different microscope *** approach means that not only is the resulting NN orders of magnitude simpler than previous NN methods,but the concept is translatable across microscope *** demonstrated the method on a two-photon,a three-photon and a widefield three-dimensional(3D)structured illumination *** showed that the method outperformed commonly-used modal-based sensorless AO *** also showed that our ML-based method was robust in a range of challenging imaging conditions,such as 3D sample structures,specimen motion,low signal to noise ratio and activity-induced fluorescence ***,as the bespoke architecture encapsulated physical understanding of the imaging process,the internal NN configuration was no-longer a"black box",but provided physical insights on internal workings,which could influence future designs.

Premorbid Use of Clopidogrel Portends Worse Outcomes in Patients Treated Surgically for Intracranial Hemorrhage

Background: Widespread use of antiplatelet and anticoagulation medications (APACs) can be a difficult challenge in the presence of a neurosurgical emergency. Premorbid use of APACs, particularly clopidogrel, has been shown to affect outcomes in patients with stroke and traumatic brain injury. Objective: We hypothesized that pre-morbid clopidogrel use in patients with intracranial hemorrhage necessitating surgical intervention would lead to a greater risk of death and need for re-operation than those taking other APACs. Methods: Retrospective single institution review was conducted from January, 2010 through November, 2012 for intracranial hemorrhages necessitating surgical evacuation. Acute, subacute and chronic subdural, epidural and intraparenchymal hemorrhages were included. Results: 185 of 410 patients that required surgery for intracranial hemorrhage were on APACs. Overall mortality rate was 33%, with a 37% mortality rate in the APAC group. Overall reoperation rate was 7.5%, and 13% in the APAC group. Chi-square testing demonstrated significance between mortality and clopidogrel use (p = 0.0038), but not in APAC, warfarin or aspirin groups. There was statistical significance between the need for reoperation and APAC use (p = 0.002), aspirin use (p = 0.0097), and clopidogrel use (p = 0.0152), but not warfarin. Multivariate regression demonstrated only clopidogrel use is associated with higher mortality (p = 0.05) and need for reoperation (p = 0.0206). Conclusion: APAC use in the setting of intracranial hemorrhage necessitating surgical evacuation have higher intraoperative blood loss, need for transfusion and risk for adverse cardiac events. Premorbid clopidogrel use is associated with an increased risk in mortality and need for reoperation.
