Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates feature ultra-modern cities with millions of residents that developed in opposition to the physical patterns of traditional historical *** the past years,however,there has been a renewed attention to urban heritage and two metropolises,Jeddah and Dubai,have decided to aim for World Heritage status and to leverage historic city centres as engines of economic development and tools for the reinforcement of national *** Dubai,the conservation and reconstruction of historic neighbourhoods gives residents an urban historic depth previously unrecognised,favouring the integration of different ethnic communities while contributing to the tourist development of the *** Jeddah,the preservation and revitalisation of the historic centre is part of a larger strategy focusing on the reinforcement of the private sector to trigger new urban dynamics building upon its rich *** strategies and plans are briefly discussed,underlining the specificities of the Arabian Peninsula context and its complex and evolving relationship with history and *** is argued that the nominations for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List have been a catalyser for the definition of new planning and conservation policies integrating urban heritage into urban development strategies.

Alginate is an edible heteropolysaccharide that abundantly available in the brown seaweed and the capsule of bacteria such as Azotobacter *** Pseudomonas *** to alginate gel forming capability,it is widely used in food,textile and paper industries;and to a lesser extent in biomedical applications as biomaterial to promote wound healing and tissue *** is evident from the rising use of alginate-based dressing for heavily exuding wound and their mass availability in the market ***,alginate also has *** in contact with physiological environment,alginate could gelate into softer structure,consequently limits its potential in the soft tissue regeneration and becomes inappropriate for the usage related to load bearing body *** cater this problem,wide range of materials have been added to alginate structure,producing sturdy composite *** instance,the incorporation of adhesive peptide and natural polymer or synthetic polymer to alginate moieties creates an improved composite material,which not only possesses better mechanical properties compared to native alginate,but also grants additional healing capability and promote better tissue *** addition,drug release kinetic and cell viability can be further improved when alginate composite is used as encapsulating *** this review,preparation of alginate and alginate composite in various forms(fibre,bead,hydrogel,and 3D-printed matrices)used for biomedical application is described first,followed by the discussion of latest trend related to alginate composite utilization in wound dressing,drug delivery,and tissue engineering applications.

AiM To investigate whether the adipocytes derived hormone adiponectin(ADPN) affects the mechanical responses in strips from the mouse gastric fundus. METHODS For functional experiments, gastric strips from the fundal region were cut in the direction of the longitudinal muscle layer and placed in organ baths containing KrebsHenseleit solution. Mechanical responses were recorded via force-displacement transducers, which were coupled to a polygraph for continuous recording of isometric tension. Electrical field stimulation(EFS) was applied via two platinum wire rings through which the preparation was threaded. The effects of ADPN were investigated on the neurally-induced contractile and relaxant responses elicited by EFS. The expression of ADPN receptors, Adipo-R1 and Adipo-R2, was also evaluated by touchdown-PCR analysis. RESULTS in the functional experiments, EFS(4-16 Hz) elicited tetrodotoxin(TTX)-sensitive contractile responses. Addition of ADPN to the bath medium caused a reduction in amplitude of the neurally-induced contractile responses(P in the presence of the nitric oxide(NO) synthesis inhibitor L-NG-nitro arginine(L-NNA)(P > 0.05). The direct smooth muscle response to methacholine was not influenced by ADPN(P > 0.05). in carbachol precontracted strips and in the presence of guanethidine, EFS induced relaxant responses. Addition of ADPN to the bath medium, other than causing a slight and progressive decay of the basal tension, increased the amplitude of the neurally-induced relaxant responses(P down-PCR analysis revealed the expression of both Adipo-R1 and Adipo-R2 in the gastric *** The results indicate for the first time that ADPN is able to influence the mechanical responses in strips from the mouse gastric fundus.

AiM:To evaluate fecal calprotectin concentrations(FCCs) in subjects with chronic gastritis and the correlation between FCCs and gastritis activity ***:FCCs were measured in 61 patients with histological diagnosis of gastritis and in 74 healthy *** grading of gastritis was performed according to the updated Sydney gastritis *** were subdivided into 2 groups according to the presence/absence of an active *** with chronic active gastritis were divided into 3 subgroups on the basis of the activity score(mild,moderate,marked).FFCs in relation to Helicobacter pylori(***) infection and proton pump inhibitor(PPi) use were also ***:FCCs in patients with chronic active gastritis were not significantly different to FCCs either in subjects with non active gastritis or in healthy *** patients with chronic active gastritis(even marked),FCCs did not significantly differ according to activity *** significant differences in FCCs were found when considering ***,as well as when considering PPi chronic ***:FCCs were not significantly increased in subjects with chronic gastritis,even in those patients with a marked neutrophil infiltration.

纽结是流体力学中常见的流线结构。大量纽结形成一个复杂系统,其能量和其他动力学性质与纽结的拓扑密切相关。对纽结进行拓扑分类从而标识系统的结构复杂度,是拓扑流体力学的核心任务之一。传统上表征流体纽结拓扑的不变量是从helicity(螺旋度)诱导出的缠绕数,该方法是1969-1992年由剑桥大学Moffatt和ricca(作者之一)发展起来的。它在处理拓扑守恒系统时表现较好;但对拓扑非守恒现象如磁重联和纽结碎裂则暴露出严重不足。为解决这个问题,我们(作者)于2012年发展出一套纽结多项式方法,用helicity构造出纽结理论中的重要拓扑不变量Jones多项式。该方法在纽结拓扑示性能力上强于缠绕数方法,引起理论界广泛关注,获得多个国际高等级学术会议全会报告。2015年我们又向前推进一步,成功构造出基于helicity的HOMFLYPT多项式;与单参数的Jones多项式相比,前者是双参数多项式,拓扑辨析能力更强。我们用HOMFLYPT多项式来研究复杂度逐级降低的环面纽结/链环序列T(2,n),n=0,1,2,…。传统的缠绕数方法对该系统失效,因为其中会出现无纠缠、无打结涡圈;而HOMFLYPT工具不仅能够计算涡圈对系统螺旋度的贡献,而且给出了一个单调递降的拓扑特性数值序列,而后者恰好能够描述这一系统特有的逐级单调递降过程。此方法可用于研究经典和量子涡旋的复杂纠缠系综以及生物DNA链重联过程中出现的环面纽结和链环的级联退化过程,实用上具有重要意义。

流体中由大量涡旋线管组成的系综具有繁杂的纠缠方式,数学上是具有海量交叉点的巨大纽结链环。已知在拓扑非守恒的退化过程如磁重联发生时,系统会有放能现象;近年来更发现这些退化是循着一些特别通道发生的,过程当中拓扑复杂度逐级降低,伴随发生系统能量的逐级降低。针对上述现象我们最近特别研究了出现在超流体和重组DNA质体中的环面链环,发现如果用纽结理论中的多项式拓扑不变量进行标记,则上述通道恰给出一个单调级联递降序列。这一初步结果昭示出研究非平衡态物理过程的一种新的数学方法,即用纽结理论工具来定量标识流体系统的复杂度,远期目标是使之与能量等动力学量准确对应。这是一个处于学科交叉点上的新方向,具有重要的理论和实践意义。
