Epidemiology of functional gastrointestinal disorders in infants and toddlers: A systematic review

AIM: To assess the functional gastrointestinal disorders(FGID) prevalence in infants and toddlers. METHODS: Pub Med, EMBASE, and Scopus were searched for original articles from inception to February 2016. The literature search was made in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses(PRISMA). For inclusion, each study had to report epidemiological data of FGID on children up to 4 years old and contain standardized outcome Rome Ⅱ or Ⅲ criteria. The overall quality of included epidemiological studies was evaluated in accordance to Loney's proposal for prevalence studies of health literature. Two reviewers assessed each study for inclusion and extracted data. Discrepancies were reconciled through ***: It was identified a total of 101 articles through the databases and two through the manual search. A total of 28 articles fulfilled the eligibility criteria. After reading the full articles, 13 of them were included in the present review. Twelve studies were written in English and one in Chinese, and published between 2004 and 2015. Eight articles(61.5%) were performed in Europe, three(23.1%) in America and two(15.4%) in Asia. Sample size varied between 45 and 9660 subjects. Cross-sectional frequency was reported in majority of studies(k = 9) and four studies prospectively followed the subjects. 27.1% to 38% of participants have met any of Rome's criteria for gastrointestinal syndromes, of those 20.8% presented two or more FGID. Infant regurgitation and functional constipation were the most common FGID, ranging from less than 1% to 25.9% and less than 1% to 31%, respectively. Epidemiology of functional gastrointestinal disorders in children and adolescents: A systematic review

To assess the prevalence of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) in children and ***, EMBASE, and Scopus databases were searched for original articles from inception to September 2016. The literature search was made in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) recommendations. For inclusion, each study had to report epidemiological data on FGIDs in children between 4 and 18 years old and contain standardized outcome based on Rome II, III or IV criteria. The overall quality of included epidemiological studies was evaluated in accordance with Loney’s proposal for prevalence studies of health literature. Two reviewers assessed each study for data inclusion and extraction. Discrepancies were reconciled through discussion with *** total of 659 articles were identified from the databases and 16 through manual search. A total of 43 articles fulfilled the eligibility criteria for full-text reading, with 26 remaining to be included in the final analysis. All studies were written in English and published between 2005 and 2016. Eight (30.8%) articles were performed in North America, five (19.2%) in Latin America, five (19.2%) in Europe, seven (27%) in Asia, and one (3.8%) in Africa. Sample size varied between 114 and 99416 subjects, totaling 132600 individuals. Fourteen (53.9%) studies recruited their target samples from schools, 11 (42.3%) from healthcare settings and the remaining one (3.8%) from online panel community. The overall FGID prevalence rates for student samples ranged from 9.9% to 29% to as high as 87% in clinical samples. Cyclic vomiting, irritable bowel syndrome and functional constipation were the most researched conditions, with a prevalence ranging from 0.2% to 6.2%, 0% to 45.1% and 0.5% to 86.9%, respectively. In a real estate project, the estimated cost of construction and the revenues generally represent together the most important values of its feasibility study. When a decision of undertaking a project is made, often there are few definitions of what is about to be constructed, and frequently not enough to ensure the accuracy of the estimated costs. Considering a global tendency on reducing margins of return over the real estate markets, slight variations of the construction cost can jeopardize the success of the whole real estate enterprise and even the financial stability of the builder or of the developer. This article aims at presenting a method of estimating the building construction costs applicable at the stage of feasibility studies, being able to provide acceptable errors.

Investigation of Galactic open cluster remnants： the case of NGC 7193

Galactic open clusters （OCs） that survive the early gas-expulsion phase are gradually de- stroyed over time by the action of disruptive dynamical processes. Their final evolutionary stages are characterized by a poorly populated concentration of stars called an open cluster remnant （OCR）. This study is devoted to assessing the real physical nature of the OCR candidate NGC 7193. GMOS/Gemini spectroscopy of 53 stars in the inner target region were obtained to derive radial velocities and at- mospheric parameters. We also employed photometric and proper motion data. The analysis method consists of the following steps：（i） analysis of the statistical resemblance between the cluster and a set of field samples with respect to the sequences defined in color-magnitude diagrams （CMDs）; （ii） a 5-dimensional iterative exclusion routine was employed to identify outliers from kinematical and posi- tional data; （iii） isochrone fitting to thes× （J - Ks） CMD of the remaining stars and the dispersion of spectral types along empirical sequences in the （J - H） × （H - Ks） diagram were checked. A group of stars was identified for which the mean heliocentric distance is compatible with that obtained via isochrone fitting and whose metallicities are compatible with each other. Fifteen of the member stars observed spectroscopically were identified together with another 19 probable members. Our results indi- cate that NGC 7193 is a genuine OCR, of a once very populous OC, for which the following parameters were derived： d = 501±46 pc, t = 2.5±1.2 Gyr, （[Fe/H]） = -0.17±0.23 and E（B-V） = 0.05±0.05. Its luminosity and mass functions show depletion of low mass stars, confirming the OCR is in a dynam- ically evolved state.

Invasive species are a major threat to island biodiversity,and their eradications have substantially contributed to the conservation of island ***,the consequences of eradications on the trophic ecology of native taxa are largely ***,we used the eradication of invasive black rats Rattus rattus and European rabbits Oryctolagus cuniculus from the Berlenga Island,in the western coast of Portugal,as a whole-ecosystem experiment to investigate the effects of the eradication of invasive mammals on the trophic niche and body dimensions of the island-restricted Berlenga wall lizard Podarcis carbonelli berlengensis over a 2-year *** results suggest an expansion of the isotopic niche and an intensification of the sexual dimorphism of the lizard following mammal ***,we found considerable variability in isotopic niche across the island and detected evidence of sex-specific and season-modulated nutritional requirements of this threatened *** findings support that the eradication of 2 of the planets most problematic invasive vertebrates led to changes in the lizard trophic niche and sexual dimorphism in just 2 *** suggests that the ecological pressuresfor example,prey availability and habitat structureto which lizards are exposed have substantially changed *** study emphasizes the scientific value of island eradications as experiments to address a wide range of ecological questions and adds to the increasing body of evidence supporting substantial conservation gains associated with these restoration interventions.

Is There an Absolute Scale for Speed?

Except for the speed of photons in vacuum, all speeds are relative. Could we develop an absolute scale for speed in which relative values for speed may be arbitrarily positioned and compared in absolute terms? The currently accepted definition for the meter as the distance covered by photons in vacuum during 1/299,792,458 s, and the view that the greater a material particle is accelerated towards c, the greater time dilation and length contraction will be, suggest that anything disturbing one of the four spacetime dimensions may affect the other three as well. One hypothetical experiment, one real experiment performed in the 1970s, and one experiment from a different field of science are discussed to propose that both time and velocity are only partially relative. In the first experiment, person A is standing still on the Earth’s surface, and person B is onboard a train passing by person A at the constant speed of 60 km/h (as measured by person B on the train’s speedometer). Persons A and B define two distinct inertial frames of reference, which correspond to two different spacetime conditions and which are therefore characterized by comparatively different lengths of the meter and durations of the second, as predicted by the Lorentz factor. Therefore, if person B onboard the train measures the train’s speed relative to person A as 60 km/h, a simple calculation will show that person A will perceive the train passing by at 59.99999999999981455834 km/h. If we consider the speed of photons in vacuum (c = 299,792,458 m/s) as a universal reference, and if we consider that the greater a material particle is accelerated towards c, the greater time dilation and length contraction will be, then person C, occupying an independent, distinct inertial frame of reference, will be unable to determine persons A and B’s absolute speeds, but may infer which one is moving at a speed closer to c by comparing, with his own meter and second, the durations of the second and the lengths of

More effective approaches are needed in the treatment of blood cancers,in particular acute myeloid leukemia(AML),that are able to eliminate resistant leukemia stem cells(LSCs)at the bone marrow(BM),after a chemotherapy session,and then enhance hematopoietic stem cell(HSC)engraftment for the re-establishment of the HSC ***,we investigate whether light-activatable nanoparticles(NPs)encapsulating all-trans-retinoic acid(RA^(+)NPs)could solve both *** in vitro results show that mouse AML cells transfected with RA^(+)NPs differentiate towards antitumoral M1 macrophages through RIG.1 and OASL gene *** in vivo results further show that mouse AML cells transfected with RA^(+)NPs home at the BM after transplantation in an AML mouse *** photo-disassembly of the NPs within the grafted cells by a blue laser enables their differentiation towards a macrophage *** macrophage activation seems to have systemic anti-leukemic effect within the BM,with a significant reduction of leukemic cells in all BM compartments,of animals treated with RA^(+)NPs,when compared with animals treated with empty *** a separate group of experiments,we show for the first time that normal HSCs transfected with RA^(+)NPs show superior engraftment at the BM niche than cells without treatment or treated with empty *** is the first time that the activity of RA is tested in terms of long-term hematopoietic reconstitution after transplant using an in situ activation approach without any exogenous priming or genetic conditioning of the transplanted ***,the approach documented here has the potential to improve consolidation therapy in AML since it allows a dual intervention in the BM niche:to tackle resistant leukemia and improve HSC engraftment at the same time.
