The European rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus is an exotic herbivorous m.m.al undergoing an active phase of geographical expansion in the arid ecosystem. of *** Adaptive Flexibility Hypothesis states that populations at the range edge(new populations)will exhibit greater fexibility in the use of resources com.ared with populations located in the range core(older populations).The objective of this work was to com.are the rabbit’s use of spatial and trophic resources in relation to the establishm.nt tim. of their *** sam.ling was carried out for 2 years(2017 and 2018)in sites with different establishm.nt tim.s for rabbit *** sam.ling stratifed by type of habitat was applied using 115 fxed strip transects of 1,000 m.(2) laid out across the study *** rabbit signs were recorded in each transect,and environm.ntal and anthropic variables were *** results show that the individuals from.the range edge are m.re selective in the use of habitat than those from.the range *** the m.crohabitat level,we observed a pattern in the particular com.onents of habitat use by rabbits m.inly linked to food availability and proxim.ty to *** a trophic perspective,rabbits could show fexible adjustm.nt to novel conditions and environm.nts in the range *** variability in resource use by the European rabbit confrm. its ecological fexibility,pivotal for their advance toward new environm.nts in Argentina.

The building stock is responsible for a large share of global energy consum.tion and greenhouse gas em.ssions,therefore,it is critical to prom.te building retrofit to achieve the proposed carbon and energy neutrality *** of the policies im.lem.nted in recent years was the Energy Perform.nce Certificate(EPC)policy,which proposes building stock benchm.rking to identify buildings that require ***,research shows that these m.chanism. fail to engage stakeholders in the retrofit process because it is widely seen as a m.ndatory and com.lex *** study m.kes use of an EPC database to integrate m.chine learning techniques with m.lti-objective optim.zation and develop an interface capable of(1)predicting a building’s,or household’s,energy needs;and(2)providing the user with optim.m.retrofit solutions,costs,and return on *** goal is to provide an open-source,easy-to-use interface that guides the user in the building retrofit *** energy and EPC prediction m.dels show a coefficient of determ.nation(R2)of 0.84 and 0.79,and the optim.zation results for one case study EPC with a 2000€budget lim.t inÉvora,Portugal,show decreases of up to 60%in energy needs and return on investm.nts of up to 7 in 3 years.

Litterfall is the largest source of nutrients to for-est soils of tropical ***,variability in lit-terfall production,nutrient rem.bilization,and changes in leaf nutrient concentration with clim.te seasonality rem.in largely unknown for the central *** study m.as-ured litterfall production,leaf nutrient rem.bilization,and leaf area index on a forest plateau in the central *** was m.asured at m.nthly intervals during 2014,while nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium.calcium.and m.g-nesium.concentrations of leaf litter and canopy leaves were m.asured in the dry and rainy seasons,and rem.bilization rates *** area index was also recorded in the dry and rainy *** litterfall varied from.33.2(in the rainy season)to 87.6 g m.(-2) in the dry season,while leaf area index increased slightly in the rainy *** seasonality had no effect on concentrations of nitrogen,calcium.and m.gnesium.whereas phosphorous and potassium.responded to rainfall seasonality *** phosphorous increased,potassium.decreased during the dry *** seasons,nitrogen,potassium.and phosphorous decreased in leaf litter;calcium.increased in leaf litter,while m.gnesium.rem.ined unaffected with leaf ***,the five nutrients had sim.lar rem.bilization rates over the *** absence of clim.te seasonality on nutrient rem.bilization suggests that the current length of the dry season does not alter nutrient rem.bilization rates but this m.y change as dry periods becom. m.re prolonged in the future due to clim.te change.

In this study,we identiﬁed the m.isture sources for the precipitation associated with tropical cyclones(TCs)during the rapid intensiﬁcation(RI)process from.1980 to 2018 by applying a Lagrangian m.isture source diagnostic *** detected sixteen regions on a global scale for RI events distributed as follows:four in the North Atlantic(NATL),two in the Central and East Paciﬁc Ocean(NEPAC),the North Indian Ocean(NIO)and South Indian Ocean(SIO),and three in the South Paciﬁc Ocean(SPO)and the Western North Paciﬁc Ocean(WNP).The m.isture uptake(m.)m.stly was from.the regions where TCs underwent *** Western NATL,tropical NATL,Caribbean Sea,the Gulf of m.xico and the Central Am.rica and m.xico landm.ss supported~85.4%of the precipitating m.isture in the NATL,while the latter source and the eastern North Paciﬁc Ocean provided the higher am.unt of m.isture in NEPAC(~84.3%).The Arabian Sea,the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Peninsula were the m.jor m.isture sources in NIO,contributing approxim.tely 81.3%.The eastern and western parts of the Indian Ocean supplied m.st of the atm.spheric hum.dity in SIO(~83.8%).The com.ined contributions(~87.9%)from.the western and central SPO and the Coral Sea were notably higher in ***,TCs in the WNP basin m.stly received m.isture from.the western North Paciﬁc Ocean,the Philippine Sea and the China Sea,accounting for 80.1%.The rem.ining m.isture support in each basin cam. from.the sum.ed contributions of the rem.te ***,RI TCs gained m.re m.isture up to 2500 km.from.the cyclone centre than those slow intensiﬁcation(SI)and the total m. was approxim.tely three tim.s higher during RI than ***,the patterns of the m. differences respond to the typical pathways of m.isture transport in each basin.

The genus Argem.ne L.(Papaveraceae)is found widely distributed in m.xico’s Chihuahuan Desert(CD).Som. species of this genus are of phytochem.cal or ethnobotanical *** are inedible plants considered as *** date they have not been broadly studied;thus,their ecology is,to our knowledge,*** present work was centered around carrying out a m.rphom.tric analysis and the determ.nation of m.nerals in the soil and seeds of the wild populations of Argem.ne at sites belonging to two ecoregions of the CD in *** April 2021 and April 2022,seeds of Argem.ne spp.,and soil sam.les were collected at 10 sites of the *** seeds were selected under a random.zed design,and weight,length,diam.ter,thickness,buoyancy,and m.neral content were *** soil sam.les were obtained under the m.xican regulation NOm.021-RECNAT-2000,and determ.nations of m.neral content,electrical conductivity,apparent density,and soluble anions were *** inform.tion obtained was grouped by variable,species,and place of *** statistical tests consisted of an ANOVA,Tukey m.ans tests considering p≤0.05,and a Principal Com.onents *** pleiacantha exhibited differences in term. of weight(F=54.79,p=0.001),length(F=90.83,p=0.001),thickness(F=104.89,p=0.001),and diam.ter(F=155.82,p=0.001),and the differences in Argem.ne m.xicana were in weight(F=46.71,p=0.001),thickness(F=187.49,p=0.001),length(F=191.56,p=0.001),and diam.ter(F=215.83,p=0.001).The evaluated seeds reached their m.xim.l im.ibition velocity at 24 h of *** content of the m.cro-and m.cro-nutrients analyzed in the seeds and soil suggest a tight relation with the m.rphom.tric characteristics of the seeds.

Background Treeline ecotones of m.diterranean ecoregions have been affected by the increasing intensity and severity of droughts. Even though the effect of droughts on forest dynam.cs has been widely docum.nted, knowledge is relatively scarce of how extrem. clim.te episodes affect the hydraulic structure and, therefore, the phys-iology of woody plants. The m.diterranean Andes have experienced an uninterrupted period of drought since 2010, including an extrem.ly dry year in 2019 with approxim.tely 80% rainfall deficit. Here, we investigated shifts in wood anatom.cal and physiological traits of Kageneckia angustifolia, an endem.c treeline species, in response to this drought *** We evaluated the xylem.plasticity of three K. angustifolia populations across their natural distribution(31–35° SL) based on anatom.cal(vessel structure and distribution) and physiological(intrinsic water-use efficiency) variables in the tree rings. We focused on the period 2000–2020 that corresponds to before the m.gadrought(2000–2007),(ii) m.gadrought(2008–2018) and(iii) hyperdrought(2019–2020). The variables were annualized and analyzed by linear m.xed-effects *** Our results provide insights to the anatom.cal and physiological m.chanism. underlying the resilience of treeline forests to persistent droughts in central Chile. We found that the extrem. drought in 2019–2020 triggered shifts in vessel size and frequency that increased hydraulic safety. These significant shifts in vessel traits occurred in parallel with a decrease in pit aperture area and an increase in water-use efficiency, further increasing the resilience of K. angustifolia to extrem. drought *** Our results revealed coordinated shifts in vessel size and frequency and water-use efficiency in response to the m.gadrought, thereby reducing vulnerability to hydraulic failure.
