Rhizosphere fungal community assembly varied across functional guilds in a temperate forest

Background Rhizosphere fungi play an important role in plant community dynamics and biogeochemical *** the drivers of fungal community assembly have been studied in varied ecosystems, it is still unclear how these processes function for rhizosphere soil fungi in temperate forests. Furthermore, it is unknown whether the relative contributions of important determinants remain consistent or vary across fungal ecological guilds. This study used high-throughput next-generation sequencing to characterize the fungal communities of 247 rhizosphere soil samples from 19 tree species in a temperate forest within Northeast China. We aimed to investigate how three important determinants in temperate forests(host tree species, neighbouring plant communities, and edaphic properties) influence the community assembly of fungal functional guilds in the rhizosphere soil of *** We found that host tree species contributed more to plant pathogens' community composition than ectomycorrhizal fungi, and plant pathogens consistently showed higher host specialization than ectomycorrhizal *** also showed high host specialization, which was mediated by the tree species' effect on rhizosphere soil pH. Although neighboring plant communities contributed remarkably to richness of all fungal guilds, this effect on fungal composition varied across functional guilds, with stronger effect for biotrophic guilds(plant pathogens and ectomycorrhizal fungi) than for non-biotrophic guild(saprotrophs). Neighboring plant communities shaped the ectomycorrhizal community composition strongly in all samples regardless of host trees' mycorrhizal type, whereas edaphic properties were the most important drivers for this guild in samples from only ectomycorrhizal-associated trees. Testicular prostheses-impact on quality of life and sexual function

Orchiectomy is the recommended treatment for many testicular ***,testicular prosthesis placement is not always performed for different *** this study,we aimed to evaluate patients'opinions and the impact on sexual function and quality of *** retrospective observational single-center study included patients who underwent orchiectomy between January 2014 and December 2020 at the Department of Urology,Braga's Hospital(Braga,Portugal),where testicular implants were always available and the decision to undergo the procedure was made fully independent of *** completed four questionnaires that assessed demographic data,satisfaction,self-esteem,and sexual *** the 96 patients who underwent orchidectomy,59 replied to the questionnaires,and of these patients,86.4%decided to undergo silicone-based testicular prostheses *** remaining 13.6%refused the implant based on concerns about complications(37.5%),because they felt that it was unnecessary(37.5%),or because it was not offered by the doctor(25.0%).Overall,96.1%of these patients were satisfied with the implant;however,25.5%classified it as"too firm".No statistically significant differences were found in sexual function(all P>0.05).However,it can be observed that there are more patients with prostheses presenting normal sexual activity compared to patients without prostheses(74.0%vs 50.0%),and none of them reported severe erectile dysfunction(0 vs 16.7%).Regarding self-esteem,both patients with and without prostheses present very similar average scores with no statistically significant *** present study highlights the highest level of satisfaction among patients who received testicular *** prostheses implantation is a safe procedure that does not hamper sexual function after orchiectomy.

Assessing the energy saving potential of using adaptive setpoint temperatures:The case study of a regional adaptive comfort model for Brazil in both the present and the future

It has been found in recent years that using setpoint temperatures based on adaptive thermal comfort models is a successful method of energy *** studies using adaptive setpoint temperatures incorporate international models from ASHRAE Standard 55 and *** study,however,has instead considered a regional Brazilian adaptive comfort *** study investigates the energy demand arising from the use of a local Brazilian comfort model in order to assess the energy implications from the use of the worldwide ASHRAE Standard 55 adaptive model and various fixed setpoint *** of Brazil’s climate zones,full air-conditioning,mixed-mode building operating modes,present-day climate change scenarios,and future scenarios—specifically Representative Concentration Pathways(RCP)2.6,4.5,and 8.5 for the years 2050 and 2100—have all been taken into account in building energy *** use of adaptive setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local model considering mixed-mode has been found to significantly reduce energy consumption when compared to static setpoint temperatures(average energy-saving values ranging from 52%to 58%)and the ASHRAE 55 adaptive model(average values ranging from 15%to 21%).Considering climate change and the mixed-mode Brazilian model,the overall energy demand for the three groups of climatic zones(annual average outdoor temperatures≤21℃,>21 and≤25℃and>25℃)ranged between 2%decrease and 5%increase,4%and 27%increase,and 13%and 45%increase,*** is concluded as a consequence that setting setpoint temperatures based on the Brazilian local adaptive comfort model is a very efficient energy-saving method.

Litter production and leaf nutrient concentration and remobilization in response to climate seasonality in the central Amazon

Litterfall is the largest source of nutrients to for-est soils of tropical ***,variability in lit-terfall production,nutrient remobilization,and changes in leaf nutrient concentration with climate seasonality remain largely unknown for the central *** study meas-ured litterfall production,leaf nutrient remobilization,and leaf area index on a forest plateau in the central *** was measured at monthly intervals during 2014,while nitrogen,phosphorus,potassium,calcium and mag-nesium concentrations of leaf litter and canopy leaves were measured in the dry and rainy seasons,and remobilization rates *** area index was also recorded in the dry and rainy *** litterfall varied from 33.2(in the rainy season)to 87.6 g m^(-2) in the dry season,while leaf area index increased slightly in the rainy *** seasonality had no effect on concentrations of nitrogen,calcium,and magnesium,whereas phosphorous and potassium responded to rainfall seasonality *** phosphorous increased,potassium decreased during the dry *** seasons,nitrogen,potassium,and phosphorous decreased in leaf litter;calcium increased in leaf litter,while magnesium remained unaffected with leaf ***,the five nutrients had similar remobilization rates over the *** absence of climate seasonality on nutrient remobilization suggests that the current length of the dry season does not alter nutrient remobilization rates but this may change as dry periods become more prolonged in the future due to climate change.

Spatial and temporal patterns of forest fires in the Central Monte:relationships with regional climate

Background Natural and anthropogenic wildfires burn large areas of arid and semi-arid forests with significant socio-economic and environmental impacts. Fire regimes are controlled by climate, vegetation type, and anthropogenic factors such as ignition sources and human-induced disturbances. Projections of climate and land-use change suggest that these controlling factors will change, altering fire regimes in the near future. In the southern Central Monte, Mendoza, Argentina, the factors that modulate the fire temporal and spatial variability are poorly understood. We reconstructed the fire history of southeast of Mendoza from 1984 to 2023 and investigated the relationships between fire extent and climate variability at seasonal and interannual scales. Burned areas were determined using Google Earth Engine by processing Landsat 5-TM, Landsat 7-ETM+, and Landsat 8-OLI-TIRS sensor *** The region exhibited high spatial and temporal variability in fire occurrence, being a mosaic of areas with different fire histories and recovery times. Between 1985 and 2023, fire recurrence ranged from sites unburned to sites with up to 14 fires. The occurrence of large fires was strongly favored by a combination of a year with abundant spring–early summer precipitation, which favors fuel accumulation, followed by a year of low spring–early summer precipitation. Precipitation and burnt area showed a very pronounced 6–7 year cycle, suggesting a dominant climatic control on fire *** Fire distribution in southeastern Mendoza forests is not homogeneous, resulting in a mosaic of patches with different fire histories. This heterogeneity may be related to vegetation patterns and land use. The temporal variability of fires is strongly influenced by climate variability, which would promote fuel production and subsequent drying. Quasilinear elliptic problems with exponential growth via the Nehari manifold method: Existence of nonnegative and nodal solutions

In this paper we will be concerned with the problem -Δu-1/2Δ(a（x）u2)u+V（x）u=f（u）,x∈R2，where V is a potential continuous and f : R → R is a superlinear continuous function with exponential subcritical or exponential critical growth. We use as a main tool the Nehari manifold method in order to show existence of nonnegative solutions and existence of nodal solutions. Our results complement the classical result of solutions for quasilinear Schrodinger equations via the Nehari method due to Jia-quan Liu, Ya-qi Wang and Zhi-Qiang Wang in the sense that in this article we are considering nonlinearity of the exponential type.

The European rabbit Oryctolagus cuniculus is an exotic herbivorous mammal undergoing an active phase of geographical expansion in the arid ecosystems of *** Adaptive Flexibility Hypothesis states that populations at the range edge(new populations)will exhibit greater fexibility in the use of resources compared with populations located in the range core(older populations).The objective of this work was to compare the rabbit’s use of spatial and trophic resources in relation to the establishment time of their *** sampling was carried out for 2 years(2017 and 2018)in sites with different establishment times for rabbit *** sampling stratifed by type of habitat was applied using 115 fxed strip transects of 1,000 m2 laid out across the study *** rabbit signs were recorded in each transect,and environmental and anthropic variables were *** results show that the individuals from the range edge are more selective in the use of habitat than those from the range *** the microhabitat level,we observed a pattern in the particular components of habitat use by rabbits mainly linked to food availability and proximity to *** a trophic perspective,rabbits could show fexible adjustment to novel conditions and environments in the range *** variability in resource use by the European rabbit confrms its ecological fexibility,pivotal for their advance toward new environments in Argentina.
