Uxi (endopleura uchi) is a plant from the Brazilian Amazon. It has many biological activities that are attributed to its main active.c.mponent, bergenin (BG), which has low water solubility. The aim of this work was to obtain β-cyclodextrin (β-cD) inclusion complexes of uxi using lyophilized cooked rice as the solid substrate. The process was studied using a Box–Behnken design with the solution feed rate, molar ratio of β-cD to BG, and rice bed load as factors. These factors greatly affected the product bulk density, angle of repose, water content, and BG content, loss, and water solubility. The optimum process conditions determined using a desirability functions methodology were an extract feed rate of 1 mL/min, a ratio of β-cD to BG of 3:1, and a substrate load of 100 g. The predicted values under the optimum conditions were.c.ose to the experimental results of a water content of 5.8%± 0.2%, BG content of 985.7 ± 15.4 μg/g, BG water solubility of 2230.2 ± 21.1 μg/mL, and BG loss of 1.2%± 0.1%. These results confirm that spouted beds are an important tool for rapid, one-step preparation of pharmaceutical β-cD inclusion complexes in a solid form.

The phylogeny of extant Menispermaceae (Ranunculales) is reconstructed based on DNA seque.c.s of two chloroplast genes (rbcL and atpB) from 94 species belonging to 56 genera. Fossilized endocarps represent 34 genera. The positions of these are inferred using 30 morphological characters and the molecular phylogeny as a backbone.c.nstraint. Nine of the thirteen nodes that are e.c. dated by a fossil are used as calibration points for the estimates of molecular diverge.c. times. BeAST is used to estimate stem age (121.2 Myr) and crown age (105.4 Myr) for Menispermaceae. This method does not require an input tree topology and can also account for rate heterogeneity among lineages. The sensitivity of these estimates to fossil constraints is then evaluated by a cross-validation procedure. The estimated origin for Menispermaceae is dated to the mid-Jurassic if the.c.stomary maximum age of 125 Myr for eudicots is not implemented. All constraints when used alone failed to estimate node ages in some parts of the tree. Fossils from the Palae.c.ne and e.c.ne impose strict constraints. Likewise, the use of Prototinomiscium as a dating constraint for Menispermaceae appears to be a conservative approach.

The N-terminal eF-hand calcium-binding proteins 1–3(NecAB1–3) constitute a family of predominantly neuronal proteins characterized by the prese.c. of at least one eF-hand calcium-binding domain and a functionally less well characterized c-terminal antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. All three family members were initially discovered due to their interactions with other proteins. NecAB1 associates with synaptotagmin-1, a critical neuronal protein involved in membrane trafficking and synaptic vesicle exocytosis. NecAB2 interacts with predominantly striatal G-protein-coupled receptors, while NecAB3 partners with amyloid-β A4 precursor protein-binding family A members 2 and 3, key regulators of amyloid-β production. This demonstrates the.c.pacity of the family for interactions with various classes of proteins. NecAB proteins exhibit distinct subcellular localizations: NecAB1 is found in the nucleus and cytosol, NecAB2 resides in endosomes and the plasma membrane, and NecAB3 is present in the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus. The antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain, an evolutionarily ancient component, is akin to atypical heme oxygenases in prokaryotes but is not wellcharacterized in vertebrates. Prokaryotic antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domains typically form dimers, suggesting that calcium-mediated conformational changes in NecAB proteins may induce antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain dimerization, potentially activating some enzymatic properties. However, the substrate for this enzymatic activity remains uncertain. Alternatively, calcium-mediated conformational changes might influe.c. protein interactions or the subcellular localization of NecAB proteins by controlling the availability of protein–protein interaction domains situated between the eF hands and the antibiotic biosynthesis monooxygenase domain. The objective of this study was to examine the impacts of climate and land use.c.anges on wateravailability and sediment loads for a water supply reservoir in northern Morocco using data-intensive simulation models in a data-scarce region. Impacts were assessed by comparing the simulated water and sediment entering the reservoir between the future period 2031-2050 and the 1983-2010 refere.c. period. Three scenarios of land use.c.ange and two scenarios of climate.c.ange were developed in the Tleta watershed. Simulations under current and future.c.nditions were performed using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. The simulations showed that climate.c.ange will lead to a sig-nificant decrease in the annual water supply to the reservoir (-16.9% and -27.5%) and in the annual volume of sediment entering the reservoir (-7.4% and -12.6%), depending on the.c.imate.c.ange sce-narios tested. The three scenarios of land use.c.ange will lead to a moderate.c.ange in annual water inflow into the reservoir (between-6.7% and +6.2%), while.c.using a significant decrease in sediment entering the reservoir (-37%to-24%). The.c.mbined impacts of climate and land use.c.anges will cause a reduction in annual water availability (-9.9%to-33.3%) and sediment supplies (-28.7%to-45.8%). As a result, the lifetime of the reservoir will be extended, but at the same time, the risk of water shortages will increase, especially from July to March. Therefore, alternative water resources must be.c.nsidered.
