Hypertension is a risk factor for a large number of vision-threatening eye *** this study,we investigated for the first time the retinal neural structure of the hypertensive BPH/2J mouse(Schlager mouse)and compared it to its control counterpart,the normotensive BPN/3J *** BPH/2J mouse is a selectively inbred mouse strain that develops chronic hypertension due to elevated sympathetic nervous system *** compared to the BPN/3J strain,the hypertensive BPH/2J mice showed a complete loss of outer layers of the neural retina at 21 weeks of age,which was indicative of a severe vision-threatening disease potentially caused by *** elucidate whether the retinal neural phenotype in the BPH/2J strain was attributed to increased BP,we investigated the neural retina of both BPN/3J and BPH/2J mice at 4 weeks of *** preliminary results showed for the first time that the BPH/2J strain develops severe retinal neural damage at a young *** findings suggest that the retinal phenotype in the BPH/2J mouse is possibly due to elevated blood pressure and may be contributed by an early onset spontaneous mutation which is yet to be identified or a congenital defect occurring in this *** characterization of the BPH/2J mouse strain is likely to i)elucidate gene defects underlying retinal disease;ii)understand mechanisms leading to neural retinal disease and iii)permit testing of molecules for translational research to interfere with the progression of retinal *** animal experiments were performed with the approval of the Royal Perth Hospital Animal Ethics Committee(R535/17-18)on June 1,2017.

Hash-Indexing Block-Based Deduplication Algorithm for Reducing Storage in the Cloud

Cloud storage is essential for managing user data to store and retrieve from the distributed data *** storage service is distributed as pay a service for accessing the size to collect the *** to the massive amount of data stored in the data centre containing similar information and file structures remaining in multi-copy,duplication leads to increase storage *** potential deduplication system doesn’t make efficient data reduction because of inaccuracy in finding similar data *** creates a complex nature to increase the storage consumption under *** resolve this problem,this paper proposes an efficient storage reduction called Hash-Indexing Block-based Deduplication(HIBD)based on Segmented Bind Linkage(SBL)Methods for reducing storage in a cloud ***,preprocessing is done using the sparse augmentation ***,the preprocessed files are segmented into blocks to make *** block of the contents is compared with other files through Semantic Content Source Deduplication(SCSD),which identifies the similar content presence between the *** on the content presence count,the Distance Vector Weightage Correlation(DVWC)estimates the document similarity weight,and related files are grouped into a ***,the segmented bind linkage compares the document to find duplicate content in the cluster using similarity weight based on the coefficient match *** implementation helps identify the data redundancy efficiently and reduces the service cost in distributed cloud storage.

Potential applications of lactic acid bacteria and bacteriocins in antimycobacterial therapy

Tuberculosis(TB) is a communicable disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis(M. tuberculosis). WHO estimated that 10.4 million new(incident) TB cases worldwide in year 2016. The increased prevalence of drug resistant strains and side effects associated with the current anti-tubercular drugs make the treatment options more complicated. Hence, there are necessities to identify new drug candidates to fight against various sub-populations of M. tuberculosis with less or no toxicity/side effects and shorter treatment duration. Bacteriocins produced by lactic acid bacteria(LAB) attract attention of researchers because of its "Generally recognized as safe" status. LAB and its bacteriocins possess an effective antimicrobial activity against various bacteria and fungi. Interestingly bacteriocins such as nisin and lacticin 3147 have shown antimycobacterial activity in vitro. As probiotics, LAB plays a vital role in promoting various health benefits including ability to modulate immune response against various infectious diseases. LAB and its metabolic products activate immune system and thereby limiting the M. tuberculosis pathogenesis. The protein and peptide engineering techniques paved the ways to obtain hybrid bacteriocin derivatives from the known peptide sequence of existing bacteriocin. In this review, we focus on the antimycobacterial property and immunomodulatory role of LAB and its metabolic products. Techniques for large scale synthesis of potential bacteriocin with multifunctional activity and enhanced stability are also discussed.

Impact of a new aggressive nutrition policy incorporating early introduction of parenteral nutrition and mother's own milk on growth of preterm infants

Background:Most of the evidence on early feeding of preterm infants was derived from high income settings,it is equally important to evaluate whether it can be successfully implemented into less resourced *** study aimed to compare growth and feeding of preterm infants before and after the introduction of a new aggressive feeding policy in Penang Hospital,a tertiary referral hospital in a middle income ***:The new aggressive feeding policy was developed mainly from Cochrane review evidence,using early parenteral and enteral nutrition with standardized breastfeeding counselling aimed at empowering mothers to provide early expressed milk.A total of 80 preterm babies(34 weeks and below)discharged from NICU were included(40 pre-and 40 post-intervention).Pre and post-intervention data were *** primary outcome was growth at day 7,14,21 and at discharge and secondary outcomes were time to full oral feeding,breastfeeding rates,and adverse ***:Complete data were available for all babies to *** baby was discharged prior to day 14 and 10 babies before day 21,so growth data for these babies were *** data were similar in the two *** was no significant weight difference at 7,14,21 days and at *** post-intervention babies were breastfed at discharge than pre-intervention babies(21 vs.8,P=0.005).Nosocomial infection(11 vs.4,P=0.045),and blood transfusion were significantly lower in the postintervention babies than in the pre-intervention babies(31 vs.13,P=0.01).The post-intervention babies were more likely to achieve shorter median days(interquartile range)to full oral feeding[11(6)days vs.13(11)days,P=0.058]and with lower number affecting necrotising enterocolitis(0 vs.5,P=0.055).Conclusion:Early aggressive parenteral nutrition and early provision of mother’s milk did not result in improved growth as evidenced by weight gain at *** we found more breastfeeding babies,lower nosocom

Structural and luminescence enhancement properties of Eu^(3+)/Ag nanocrystallites doped SiO_2-TiO_2 matrices

We reported here the structural and optical characterisation of silver nanocrystallites/Eu3＋：SiO2-TiO2 matrices synthesised through sol-gel route. Structural characterisations were done by using energy dispersive spectroscopy （EDX）, X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, atomic force microscope （AFM） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） measurements and optical characterisations were performed by absorption and emission spectroscopy. The TEM and XRD measurements confirmed the presence of nanocrystals. A broad absorption band was observed due to surface plasmon resonance of silver nanocrystals. The effect of silver nanocrystals on the emission spectrum of Eu3＋ doped SiO2-TiO2 matrices was discussed. An attempt was made to explain this fluorescence enhancement by invoking phenomena such as energy transfer, asymmetry ratio, surface plasmon, surface roughness, crystallinity and grain boundary. Our analysis, based on the experimental results, suggested that all the phenomena except crystallinity and grain boundary had favourable effects on fluorescence enhancement. We also estimated the relevant parameters associated with the phenomena that affected the fluorescence emission from the Eu3＋ ions in the matrix. It was seen that the theoretical estimate of fluorescence enhancement agreed well with the experimental estimate.
