Recent studies have shown that polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) regulated the func-tions of membrane receptors in T cells and suppressed T cell -mediated immune responses. But the molecular mechanisms of immune regulation are not yet elucidated. Lipid rafts are plasma membrane microdomains, in which many receptors localized. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of DHA on IL-2. signaling pathway in lipid rafts. We isolated lipid rafts by discontinuous sucrose density gradient ultracentrifugation, and found that DHA could change the composition of lipid rafts and alter the distribution of key molecules of IL-2. signaling pathway, which transferred from lipid rafts to detergent-soluble membrane fractions. These results revealed that DHA treatment increased the proportion of polyunsaturated fatty acids especially n?3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in lipid rafts and changed the lipid environment of membrane microdomains in T cells. Compared with controls, DHA changed the localization of IL-2., STAT5a and STAT5b in lipid rafts and suppressed the expression of JAK1, JAK3 and tyrosine phosphotyrosine in soluble membrane fractions. Summarily, this study con-cluded the effects of DHA on IL-2. signaling pathway in lipid rafts and explained the regulation of PUFAs in T cell-mediated immune responses.

By using the Arctic runoff data from R-ArcticNET V4.0 and ArcticRIMS,trends of four major rivers flowing into the Arctic Ocean,whose climate factor plays an important role in determining the variability of the Arctic runoff,are *** results show that for the past 30 years,the trend of the Arctic runoff is seasonally *** is a significant trend in spring and winter and a significant decreasing trend in summer,leading to the reduced seasonal *** spring,surface air temperature is the dominant factor influencing the four *** summer,precipitation is the most important factor for Lena and Mackenzie,while snow cover is the most important factor for Yenisei and *** Mackenzie,atmospheric circulation does play an important role for all the seasons,which is not the case for the Eurasian *** authors further discuss the relationships between the Arctic runoff and sea *** negative correlation is found at the mouth of the rivers into the Arctic Ocean in spring,while significant positive correlation is observed just at the north of the mouths of the rivers into the Arctic in *** addition,each river has different relationship with sea ice in the eastern Greenland Sea.

Extraseasonal ensemble numerical predictions of winter climate over China

Based on two observational data sets in China from 1956 to 2.04,wind speed changes are *** annual mean wind speed(MWS),days of strong wind (SWDs),and maximum wind(MW) all show declining trends over broad areas of *** in the southeastern Tibetan Plateau and the regions from the Great Bend of the Yellow River southward to Yunnan and Guangxi Provinces wind speeds are not significantly reduced,but rather,in partial, these regions’ winds speeds are slightly *** regions with declining trends match the areas with relatively strong observed winds and the regions without significant declining trends match the areas with light observed *** the meantime,the regions with relatively strong winds correspond to areas of reduced days of *** for both increasing intensities and for the number of days of light winds both impact the installation of wind energy facilities. These may be advantageous to the development of wind energy in different ***,the change of anemometers,or relocation of stations are factors that are mildly responsible for the decreasing trend of *** main reason for the decreasing trend is that under the background of global warming,the contrasts of the sea level pressure,and near-surface temperature between the Asian continent and the Pacific Ocean have become significantly smaller,and the east Asian trough has shifted eastward and northward,and has weakened as *** East Asian winter and summer monsoons are decreasing,and all of these impacts have resulted in declines of MWS in China.

Using the nine-level Atmospheric General Circulation Model developed at the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP9L-AGCM) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 30-year extraseasonal short-term ensemble hincast of winter climate is performed, with integrations starting from annual autumn during 1969—1998. Winter climate predictability over China is then evaluated for the first time. It follows that the predictability is higher in tropics than in extratropics. Also, it is higher over ocean compared with land, especially for surface air temperature. With height increasing in troposphere, the predictability of geopotential height slightly {2.s zonally, but for weakening of band-ship distribution and dropping near the date line. Of all analyzed variables, the prediction skill of air temperature and geopotential height (precipitation) is the highest (smallest). In addition, the predictability of winter climate over China and even East Asia enhances obviously during ENSO cycle, especially during La Nia phase. Simulation comparison against verifying analysis for surface temperature anomaly exhibits the model抯 skill in predicting surface temperature抯 interannual variation trend in winter.

By comparing the oxygen isotopic temperatures recorded by many shallow ice cores from the coastal regions of Antarctica, this paper presents the special characteristics of the temperature variations over the Antarctic coastal regions in the past 50 years, 150 years and 2.0 years. In the past 50 years, the isotopic temperatures recorded in the ice cores over different sites on the Antarctic coastal regions differ greatly. For instance, although increasing isotopic temperatures have been reported for many sites studied, many sites show decreasing trends, the regional regularity in temperature variations is still insignificant. In the past 150 years, the isotopic temperature trends in the coastal regions of Antarctica show an alternate-distributing pattern. In the past 2.0 years, all the ice cores from the coastal regions of Antarctica have recorded the so-called Little Ice Age (LIA). The above-mentioned spatial characteristics of the temperature variations over the Antarctic coastal regions are likely to reflect the impacts of the unique Southern Hemisphere atmospheric circulation, the Antarctic Circumpolar Wave (ACW) and the special terrain (such as the large drainage basins) on the coastal regions of Antarctica. Furthermore, the impacting intensity of the unique Southern Hemisphere atmospheric circulation, the Antarctic Circumpolar Wave and the special terrain differs in terms of the temporal scale of the temperature change.

Aim:To develop probes for detecting the binding specificity between β-secretaseand substrate,and provide reliable biological activity data for further researchingencircling substrate-based ***:To prepare the inhibitors,thehydroxyethylene(HE)segment including P1and P1′ was synthesized after multi-step reactions;the combination of all segments was then completed through solidphase *** human β-secretase ectodomain(amino acid resi-dues 1-460)was expressed as a secreted protein with a C-terminal His tag in insectcells using baculovirus infection,and all compounds were evaluated in thisβ-secretase enzyme *** order to understand the interaction in detail,the theoretical methods,namely molecular dynamics(MD)simulation and mo-lecular mechanics-generalized-born surface area(MM-GBSA)analysis,were per-formed on the complex of β-secretase and OM99-2.to obtain the geometrical andenergetical ***:We designed and constructed a positional scan-ning combinatorial library including 16 compounds;all members of the librarywere synthesized based on HE dipeptide ***-activity relationshipstudies at the P4-P1and P1′-P4′ positions led to the discoveries of P and P’sidesbinding specificity and potent inhibitors 14,18,and *** binding free energyon the whole system and every residue were compared to the biological ***:The removal of P4′ yielded inhibitor 2.(A3*B2.with highpotency;further truncation of P3′ gave inhibitor 18(A3*B1)with equal activity,implying that the right side of the inhibitors play a less important role and could beeasily simplified,while change on the P side may cause substantial results.

This paper is to provide quantitative data on some critical issues in anticipation of the forthcoming international negotiations in Denmark on the control of atmospheric CO2.concentrations. Instead of letting only a small number of countries dominate a few controversial dialogues about emissions reductions, a comprehensive global system must be established based on emissions allowances for different countries, to realize the long-term goal of controlling global atmospheric CO2.concentrations. That a system rooted in "cumulative emissions per capita," the best conception of the "common but differentiated responsibilities" principle affirmed by the Kyoto Protocol according to fundamental standards of fairness and justice, was demonstrated. Based on calculations of various countries' cumulative emissions per capita, estimates of their cumulative emissions from 1900 to 2.05, and their annual emissions allowances into the future (2.06―2.50), a 470 ppmv atmospheric CO2.concentration target was set. According to the following four objective indicators―total emissions allowance from 1900 to 2.50, actual emissions from 1900 to 2.05, emissions levels in 2.05, and the average growth rate of emissions from 1996 to 2.05―all countries and regions whose population was more than 300000 in 2.05 were divided into four main groups: countries with emissions deficits, countries and regions needing to reduce their gross emissions, countries and regions needing to reduce their emissions growth rates, and countries that can maintain the current emissions growth rates. Based on this proposal, most G8 countries by 2.05 had already expended their 2.50 emissions allowances. The accu-mulated financial value based on emissions has reached more than 5.5 trillion US dollars (2. dollars per ton of CO2.. Even if these countries could achieve their ambitious emissions reduction targets in the future, their per capita emissions from 2.06 to 2.50 would still be much higher than those of developing coun
