Effectiveness of craniosacral therapy,Bowen therapy,static touch and standard exercise program on sleep quality in fibromyalgia syndrome:A randomized controlled trial

Background:Sleep disturbance is commonly seen in fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS);however,high quality studies involving manual therapies that target FMS-linked poor sleep quality are lacking for the Indian ***:Craniosacral therapy (CST),Bowen therapy and exercises have been found to influence the autonomic nervous system,which plays a crucial role in sleep *** the paucity of evidence concerning these effects in individuals with FMS,our study tests the effectiveness of CST,Bowen therapy and a standard exercise program against static touch (the manual placebo group) on sleep quality in ***,setting,participants and intervention:A placebo-controlled randomized trial was conducted on132 FMS participants with poor sleep at a hospital in *** participants were randomly allocated to one of the four study groups,including CST,Bowen therapy,standard exercise program,and a manual placebo control group that received static ***,Bowen therapy and static touch treatments were administered in once-weekly 45-minute sessions for 12 weeks;the standard exercise group received weekly supervised exercises for 6 weeks with home exercises until 12 *** 12 weeks,all study participants performed the standard exercises at home for another 12 *** outcome measures:Sleep quality,pressure pain threshold (PPT),quality of life and fibromyalgia impact,physical function,fatigue,pain catastrophizing,kinesiophobia,and positive–negative affect were recorded at baseline,and at weeks 12 and 24 of the ***:At the end of 12 weeks,the sleep quality improved significantly in the CST group (P=0.037) and Bowen therapy group (P=0.023),and the PPT improved significantly in the Bowen therapy group(P=0.002) and the standard exercise group (P<0.001),compared to the static touch *** improvements were maintained at 24 *** between-group differences were observed for other secondary ***:CST and Bowen therapy improv

Adjuvant Effects of Fermented Red Ginseng Extract on Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients Treated with Chemotherapy

Objective： To investigate the adjuvant therapeutic effects of fermented red ginseng（FRG） extract on non-small cell lung cancer（NSCLC） patients treated with chemotherapy. Methods： A total of 60 patients with advanced NSCLC were assigned to two groups using a random number table, i.e., the gemcitabine plus cisplatin（GP） chemotherapy alone group（26 patients） and the FRG ＋ GP chemotherapy group（34 patients）, for 60-day treatment. Patients were then assessed according to the Fatigue Symptom Inventory, Chinese medicine symptoms score, Self-Rating Anxiety Scale, Self-Rating Depression Scale, Karnofsky Performance Status Scale, and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Lung. In addition, chemotherapy toxicity and tumor biomarkers were measured. Results： For NSCLC patients after chemotherapy, FRG extract significantly improved the FSI score, CM symptoms score, psychological status, physical conditions, and quality of life and reduced chemotherapy toxicity（P〈0.01）, but the expression levels of carcinoembryonic antigen, cytokeratin-19 fragments, and neuron-specific enolase were not significantly different between the chemotherapy alone and the FRG ＋ chemotherapy groups or between pre-and post-treatments（P〉0.05）. Conclusions： This study demonstrated that FRG extract had an adjuvant effect on advanced NSCLC patients treated with chemotherapy. Further studies with a larger sample size will verify the current findings.

Regional Hurricane modeling systems developed and implemented into operations at National Centers for Environmental Prediction(NCEP)of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA)National Weather Service(NWS)are now used for tropical cyclone forecast guidance in all ocean basins of the ***,HWRF(Hurricane Weather Research and Forecast)modeling system has made significant improvements to the state of the art in numerical guidance for tropical cyclone track,intensity,size,structure and rainfall *** improvements come from advances in various components of the modeling system that are incorporated into the model in yearly upgrade ***/NCEP/Environmental Modeling Center’s hurricane team has also developed another non-hydrostatic hurricane model in NOAA Environmental Modeling System(NEMS)framework known as HMON(Hurricanes in a Multi-scale Ocean-coupled Non-hydrostatic)model which was implemented at NCEP operations this past *** of HMON is consistent with,and a step closer to developing Next Generation Global Prediction System(NGGPS)chosen Finite Volume Cubed-Sphere(FV3)dynamic core based global to local scale coupled models in a unified modeling *** this paper,operational configuration details of this new HMON model are discussed along with operational HWRF model upgrades,and their forecast performance is compared to other *** also discuss plans for hurricane model improvements in the next two to five years.
