Background:Information on the association between physical activity(PA)and the risk of chronic kidney disease(CKD)is *** aimed to explore the associations of total,domain-specific,and intensity-specific PA with CKD and its subtypes in ***:The study included 475,376 adults from the China Kadoorie Biobank aged 30-79 years during 2004-2008 at *** interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect the information about PA,which was quantified as metabolic equivalent of task hours per day(MET-h/day)and categorized into 4 groups based on *** regression was used to analyze the association between PA and CKD ***:During a median follow-up of 12.1 years,5415 incident CKD cases were documented,including 1159 incident diabetic kidney disease(DKD)cases and 362 incident hypertensive nephropathy(hTN)*** PA was inversely associated with CKD risk,with an adjusted hazard ratio(hR,95%confidence interval(95%CI))of 0.83(0.75-0.92)for incident CKD in the highest quartile of total PA as compared with participants in the lowest *** results were observed for risk of DKD and hTN,and the corresponding hRs(95%CIs)were 0.75(0.58-0.97)for DKD risk and 0.56(0.37-0.85)for hTN *** nonoccupational PA,low-intensity PA,and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA were significantly associated with a decreased risk of CKD,with hRs(95%CIs)of 0.80(0.73-0.88),0.85(0.77-0.94),and 0.85(0.76-0.95)in the highest quartile,***:PA,including nonoccupational PA,low-intensity PA,and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity PA,was inversely associated with the risk of CKD,including DKD,hTN,and other CKD,and such associations were dose dependent.

Plants exploit phenotypic plasticity to adapt their growth and development to prevailing environmental conditions. Interpretation of light and temperature signals is aided by the circadian system, which provides a temporal context. Phenotypic plasticity provides a selective and competitive advantage in nature but is obstructive during large-scale, intensive agricultural practices since economically important traits (including vegetative growth and flowering time) can vary widely depending on local environmental conditions. This prevents accurate prediction of harvesting times and produces a variable crop. In this study, we sought to restrict phenotypic plasticity and circadian regulation by manipulating signaling systems that govern plants' responses to environmental signals. Mathematical modeling of plant growth and development predicted reduced plant responses to changing environments when circadian and light signaling pathways were manipulated. We tested this prediction by utilizing a constitutively active allele of the plant photoreceptor phytochrome B, along with disruption of the circadian system via mutation of EARLY FLOWERING3. We found that these manipulations produced plants that are less responsive to light and temperature cues and thus fail to anticipate dawn. These engineered plants have uniform vegetative growth and flowering time, demonstrating how phenotypic plasticity can be limited while maintaining plant productivity. This has significant implications for future agriculture in both open fields and controlled environments.

Background:It has long been assumed that post-stroke intracranial pressure(ICP)elevation occurs because of large infarct and edema ***,we have repeatedly shown IcP elevation at 24 h post-stroke in the presence of little to no edema in *** processes are often conserved across species and types of ***,we aimed to determine if an ICP rise occurs at 24 h post-stroke in the presence of small infarct and edema volumes in ***:Mice were randomized by random number table to either photothrombotic stroke or sham surgery(n=15).Epidural ICP was recorded using a fiber optic catheter at 1 h post-stroke(baseline)and between 23 and ***:ICP was significantly higher at 24 h compared to baseline in stroke animals(n=6;10.71±6.45mmhg vs.3.74±2.20mmhg,respec-tively;p=0.03).ICP at 24 h was also significantly higher in stroke mice compared to sham(n=6;3.45±1.43mmhg;p=0.02).There was no change in ICP in sham mice(p=0.9).Edema volumes in stroke animals were small(0.04±0.04 mm3)and unlikely to have caused significant ICP ***:This study provides evidence of an edema-independent ICP elevation following small ischemic stroke in *** occurrence of this rise supports our findings in other species and suggests it is caused by a previously undescribed mechanism.

In this study,the stress-modulated energy storage properties of lead-free polycrystalline Ba_(0.85)Ca_(0.15)Zr_(0.1)Ti_(0.9)O_(3)was investigated as a function of temperature from 25℃to 55℃.The externally applied uniaxial compressive stress of-160 MPa increased the recoverable energy storage density by 226%to a maximum value of 274 mJ/cm^(3),in addition to enhancing the energy storage efficiency by approximately 10%to a value of 88.2%.The macroscopic mechanical constitutive behavior is presented as well as the stress-dependent dielectric and ferroelectric properties and the Rayleigh behavior in order to elucidate the effect of stress on the energy storage ***,the stress-induced tailoring of energy storage performance can be utilized for other nonlinear dielectric ceramics to tune their extrinsic polarization mechanisms to significantly enhance the recoverable energy density and reduce the hysteretic losses.

Plant virus infections are known to alter host plant attractiveness and suitability for insect *** study was conducted to determine how cucumber mosaic virus (CMV)-infected chilli plants affect the fitness and settling preferences ofnonvector whitefly,Bemisia tabaci adults under dual-choice conditions with volatile organic compounds analyzed using solid phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).Results showed that the presence of CIVIV in chilli plants substantially affects the settling preferences of the ***,which preferred to settle on noninfected *** of the egg stage and the longevity and fecundity of adult *** on CMV-infected chilli plants were not markedly different from those on noninfected chilli *** contrast,the developmental time from egg to adult was significantly reduced in CMV-infected chilli plants compared to the noninfected *** results also showed that CMV-infected chilli plants released significantly more linalool and phenylacetaldehyde than noninfected ***,it was suggested that the behavioral response of *** might be modified by CMV-infected plants,which alter the release of specific headspace *** on these results,the modification of plant volatile profiles may help in enhancing the effectiveness of biological control and the protection of crop plants against ***.

Frontiers of Literary Studies in China-Selected Publications from Chinese Universities 2012年第4期6卷 472-489页

This article explores propaganda and self-portrayals among women rulers in seventh and eighth century Tang China, a unique era in which court politics were dominated by female leaders. I analyze the way in which these leaders themselves wished to be rhetorically constructed, the images and allusions with which they desired to be figured, and the way in which they were rhetorically reconstructed by later writers after their deaths. I focus on the theme of auspiciousness--in particular, the definition of the ＂natural＂ in relation to gender identity and power. Female imagery is deployed in late seventh- and early eighth-century works to create the image of a particular brand of far-reaching, generative power possessed and/or desired by the leaders of the time. Beyond revealing the images and allusions with which the female power-holders wished to hear themselves be described and exalted, and what occasions were deemed worthy of exalting, these works offer a fascinating counterpoint to materials which retroactively defame this image. The rhetorical strategies and images later used to delegitimize and denigrate the power of these women often represent opposite treatments of themes present in the court literature from the Zhou-Jinglong era. This paper argues that reconstructions of these women＇s identities as female power-holders indicate the prerogative of later writers to reshape their images in accordance with their own judgments, conceptualizations, and fears of female power.

Spermatogenesis is regulated by a complex network of posttranslation ***(a modification by small ubiquiti like modifiers,or SUMO proteins)was identified as an importa nt cellular event in d iff ere nt cell *** proteins are highly expressed in the testis,and their role during spermatogenesis has begun to be *** the important role of sumoylation in the regulation of mitosis and cancer progress!on in other tissues,the aim of the current study was to identify the targets of SUMO in proliferating mouse spermatog onia and huma n semi noma tissues and to in itially exami ne the level of sumoylation in relation to the proliferative activity of the *** freshly purified spermatogonia and Cl8-4 spermatogonia cell line,mass spectrometry analysis identified several SUMO targets implicated into the proliferation of spermatogonia(such as heat shock protein 60[hSP60]and prohibitin).Tissue array and western blot approaches showed that SUMO expression is a prominent feature of human seminomas and that the proliferative activity of the tumor tissues was positively correlated with the level of SUMO *** regulation of sumoylati on with si-RNA was not sufficie nt to sign ificantly affect the proliferation of C18-4 spermatogonia;however,SUMO overexpression in creased the proliferation rate of the *** data suggest that cells are more sensitive to an elevated level of SUMO,and that this situation may lead to an upregulated cellular proliferation and,possibly,*** spectrometry analysis identified around a hundred SUMO targets in seminoma ***,many of the identified proteins(such as proliferating cell nuclear antigen[PCNA],DNA topoisomerase 2-alpha[Top2A],prohibitin,14-3-3 protein,and others)were implicated in oncogenic transformation and cancer progression.
