Use of a lyophilized bovine pericardium graft to repair tunical defect in patients with peyronie＇s disease： experience in a clinical setting

Many different materials are available for grafting during surgery for peyronie＇s disease （pD）. To study the outcomes associated with the use of a lyophilized bovine pericardium graft （peri-Guard） to repair tunical defects in patients with pD, descriptive study of 43 patients with disabling penile curvature was performed. Curvature was measured before and after the intervention using a standardized procedure. Surgical technique was plaque excision and grafting of the tunical defect carried out by a single surgeon. A lyophilized bovine pericardium patch was used for grafting. We measured the change in penile curvature and length, the ability to perform successful sexual intercourse without further pharmacological or surgical treatment, and the satisfaction with treatment. Follow-up data were available for a total of 41 patients. Median age was 50 years （IQR 48-52）; mean follow-up time was 14 ± 6 months. Complete penile straightening was achieved in 33 patients （80.5%） and five patients （12.2%） had curvature under 20. Three months after surgery and stretching therapy, mean （s.d.） flaccid penile length increased from 11.2 ± 2.8 cm to 12.1 ± 2.9 cm （p = 0.062）. Seventy-five percentage of patients reported being able to achieve successful intercourse without further treatment. Eighty-five percentage of patients reported to be satisfied with the treatment. There was no evidence of tissue rejection or infection, and only four patients suffered an adverse event. plaque excision and grafting of the tunical defect with lyophilized bovine pericardium seems to be a safe and effective treatment for patients with pD.

Local phase portraits through the Newton Diagram of a Vector Field

The Newton diagram and, in particular, the lowest-degree quasi-homogeneous terms of an analytic planar vector field allow us to determine the existence of characteristic orbits and separatrices of an isolated singular point. We give an easy algorithm for obtaining the local phase portrait near the origin of a bi-dimensional differential system and we provide several examples.

AIM： To assess if the included vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） polymorphisms rs3025035, rs3025021 and rs2010963 are associated to proliferative retinopathy in a Mexican population with type 2 diabetes mellitus （T2DM）. METHODS： A case-control study was conducted in adult individuals with T2DM associated to proliferative retinopathy or non-proliferative retinopathy from Oct. 2014 to Jun. 2015 from the Retina Department of the Asociation to prevent Blindness in Mexico. The selected patients were adults with a diagnosis of T2DM ≥5y. All subjects had a comprehensive ocular examination and the classification of the retinopathy severity was made considering the Early Treatment Diabetic Retinopathy Study （ETDRS） standardization protocols. Genomic DNA was extracted from whole fresh blood. All samples were genotyped by qpCR for selected VEGF polymorphisms. Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium was calculated by comparing Chi-square values between the expected and the observed values for genotype ***： In total 142 individuals were enrolled, 71 individuals with T2DM and associated proliferative retinopathy and 71 individuals with non-proliferative retinopathy. One-sided Fisher’s exact test was performed for rs3025021 [OR （95% CI）=0.44（0.08-2.2）; p=0.25] and rs2010963 [OR （95% CI）=0.63（0.25-1.6）; p=0.23]. The minor allelic frequencies obtained were 26% for rs3025021, 10% for rs3025035 and 61% for rs2010963. First report of L1014F kdr mutation in Culex quinquefasciatus in Mexico

The L1014F mutation in the voltage-sodium channel gene has been associated with resistance to DDT and pyrethroids in various arthropod species including mosquitoes. We determined the frequency of the L1014F kdr mutation in 16 field populations of Culex quinquefasciatus from Northeastern Mexico collected between 2008 and 2013. The L1014F was present in all populations analyzed with the lowest frequency （3.33%） corresponding to the population from Monclova collected in 2012, and the highest frequency （63.63%） from the Monterrey population collected in 2012. The presence of a kdr mutation in populations of Cx. quinquefasciatus from northeastern Mexico provides evidence ofpyrethroid resistance. This requires a special attention, considering that pyrethroid-based insecticides are commonly used in vector-control campaigns, especially against Aedes aegypti （L.）.

Structure, Thermal Behavior and Characterization of a New Hybrid Iron Fluoride FeF4（2,2′-bipyridine）（H2O）2

New crystal of FeF4（2,2′-bipyridine）（H2O）2 was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis. Crystalline structure determination is performed from single crystal X-ray diffraction data. The unit cell is monoclinic space group p21/n, with cell parameters a=0.9046（5） nm, b=0.7502（5） nm, c=1.9539（5） nm,β=93.307（5）°, V=1.3238（12） nm^3 and Z=4. The structure of FeF4（2,2＇-bipyridine）（H2O）2 is built up from FeF4N2 octahedra coordinated by two nitrogen atoms of the 2,2＇-bipyridine molecules, and four fluorine atoms as well as uncoordinated H2O molecules. Thermal analysis of the title compound showed that the decomposition introduced four steps. IR spectra confirmed the presence of 2,2＇-bipyridine molecules. The optical absorption was measured at the corresponding 2max using UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum.

Attosecond twisted beams from high-order harmonicgeneration driven by optical vortices

Optical vortices are structures of the electromagnetic field with a spiral phase ramp about a point-phase singularity,carrying orbital angular momentum(OAM). Recently, OAM has been imprinted to short-wavelength radiation through high-order harmonic generation(HHG), leading to the emission of attosecond twisted beams in the extreme-ultraviolet(XUV) regime. We explore the details of the mapping of the driving vortex to its harmonic spectrum. In particular, we show that the geometry of the harmonic vortices is convoluted, arising from the superposition of the contribution from the short and long quantum paths responsible of HHG. Finally, we show how to take advantage of transverse phase-matching to select twisted attosecond beams with different spatiotemporal properties.

Anti-methanogenic potential of seaweeds and seaweed-derived compounds in ruminant feed:current perspectives,risks and future prospects

With methane emissions from ruminant agriculture contributing 17%of total methane emissions worldwide,there is increasing urgency to develop strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in this *** of the proposed strategies is ruminant feed intervention studies focused on the inclusion of anti-methanogenic compounds which are those capable of interacting with the rumen microbiome,reducing the capacity of ruminal microorganisms to produce ***,seaweeds have been investigated for their ability to reduce methane in ruminants in vitro and in vivo,with the greatest methane abatement reported when using the red seaweed Asparagopsis taxiformis(attributed to the bromoform content of this species).From the literature analysis in this study,levels of up to 99%reduction in ruminant methane emissions have been reported from inclusion of this seaweed in animal feed,although further in vivo and microbiome studies are required to confirm these results as other reports showed no effect on methane emission resulting from the inclusion of seaweed to basal *** review explores the current state of research aiming to integrate seaweeds as anti-methanogenic feed additives,as well as examining the specific bioactive compounds within seaweeds that are likely to be related to these *** effects of the inclusion of seaweeds on the ruminal microbiome are also reviewed,as well as the future challenges when considering the largescale inclusion of seaweeds into ruminant diets as anti-methanogenic agents.
