AIM:To report the progression rate(pR)to primary angle closure(pAC)following laser peripheral iridotomy(LpI)in pAC suspects(pACS).METHODS:prospective,randomized controlled interventional clinical trial conducted at the Handan Eye Hospital,*** 134 bilateral pACS,defined as non-visibility of the posterior trabecular meshwork for≥180 degrees on gonioscopy were randomly assigned to undergo LpI in one *** and Goldmann applanation tonometry were performed prior to,on day 7 and 12 mo post ***:Eighty of 134 patients(59.7%)could be followed up at one *** mean intraocular pressure(IOp)in treated eyes was 15.9±2.6 mm Hg at baseline,15.4±3.0 mm Hg on day 7;16.5±2.9 mm Hg at one month,and 15.5±2.9 mm Hg at 12 mo;the IOp in untreated eyes was similar(p=0.834).One or more quadrants of the angle opened in 93.7%of the LpI treated eyes,but 67.0%(53/79)remained closed in two or more *** pR to pAC in untreated eyes was 3.75%and one developed acute angleclosure glaucoma(AACG);the pR to pAC in treated eyes was 2.5%and none had developed peripheral anterior synechia(pAS)or ***:LpI can open some of the occludable angle in the majority of eyes with pACS,but 67%continue to have non-visibility of the trabecular meshwork for over 180 degrees.

Comprehensive study on the homologous series of compounds in the form A-R- HHB are synthesized with central rigid core as benzoic acids together with substituent’s alkoxy (A) and alkyl (R) group of equal chain lengths from 5 to 10 are connected to hexyl-p-hydroxy benzoate (HHB). These complexes form supramolecular structures by self assembling process due to intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The formation is analyzed with techniques involving polarizing optical microscope, infrared spectroscopy, proton NMR spectroscopy and powdered X-ray diffraction. Results suggest that complexes arise from both A and R groups exhibit enantiotropic layered texture of crystal G phase observed by microscopic studies due to flexible nature of mesogenics. The conversion of free to molecular complexes is determined with variations in spectral shifts between its terminal groups COOH and OH of molecules involving inter molecular hydrogen bonding and its bonding index by FTIR spectra. The changes in structure and dynamics due to hydrogen bonding in complexes are convinced by proton NMR spectra with chemical shifts in specified range. The defects in crystal structure responsible for enantiotropic phenomena are analyzed by powdered X ray diffraction.

Effects of plant latex based anti-termite formulations on Indian white termite <i>Odontotermes obesus</i>(Isoptera: Odontotermitidae) in sub-tropical high infestation areas

In the present investigation various bioassays were conducted to evaluate the anti-termite efficacy of plant latex based formulations to control population of Indian white termite in subtropical soil. Results reveal that crude latex, its fractions and combinatorial fractions have shown very high toxicity against O. obesus. The LD50 values for different latex fractions of 24 h were in a range of 5.0-17.613 μg/mg while combined mixtures of Calotropis procera have shown synergistic activity against termites and caused comparably high mortality with LD50 1.987-6.016 μg/mg. The mortality rate was found dose and time dependent as it was found to be increased with an increase in dose and exposure period. In olfactometry tests, C. procera latex solvent fractions have shown significant repellency at a very low dose 0.010-0.320 μg/mg. Interestingly, solvent fractions have significantly repelled large numbers of worker termites due to volatile action of active components of latex and different additives. ED50 values obtained in crude latex were 0.121 μg/mg body weights while combinatorial formulations have shown ED50 in between 0.015-0.036 μg/mg. Statistical analysis of repelled and un-repelled termites gave a low Chi-square value (X2 value = 0.890) which is an indicator of independence of repellent action in randomly selected termite groups. In field experiments pre-soaked cotton threads impregnated with Calotropis procera crude latex were tagged around tree trunks of Tectona grandis provided a wider protection against O. obesus. By employing these pre-coated threads, termite infestation and tunneling activity were significantly decreased (p Calotropis procera possesses enough anti-termite potential against Indian white termite, O. obesus population. If used these, formulations may also provide wide a range of control against other kinds of pests including house hold, medical and veterinary. purpose: Circumcision is one of the most common surgeries performed in the pediatric population. Multiple regional analgesic techniques, including caudal (CB) and penile block (pB), have championed as offering optimal analgesia for circumcision in the post-neonatal pediatric population without clear consensus. This meta-analysis sought to investigate CB and pB’s analgesic efficacy and the impact on postoperative analgesic requirements in pediatric circumcisions. Methods: A comprehensive literature search of pubMed, Google Scholar, and Cochrane Library (1966-2016) was completed to identify all published randomized control trials (RCTs). Keywords searched included “circumcision”, “caudal block”, “penile block”, and “analgesia”. Inclusion criteria were limited to the comparison of pB versus CB in children less than 18 years of age and its efficacy towards circumcision. The efficacy, time to first additive analgesia, time to first micturition, duration of prolonged motor blockade, incidence of vomiting, and length of stay were analyzed. Results: 9 RCTs involving 574 children (N = 287 in CB and pB) were included. No differences in analgesic efficacy (relative risk (RR) = 0.983, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.95 to 1.02;p = 0.328) or time to first additive analgesia were observed (standardized difference in mean (SDM) = 0.438, 95% CI = -0.04 to 0.92;p = 0.073). Time to first micturition (SDM = 0.680, 95% CI = 0.40 to 0.96;p p = 0.007) were significantly prolonged in patients receiving CB. No differences were observed between groups in regards to the incidence of vomiting (RR = 1.56, 95% CI = 0.91 to 2.67;p = 0.107) and length of stay (SDM = 0.741, 95% CI = -0.05 to 1.53;p = 0.066). Conclusion: CB and pB offer similar analgesic success rates for pediatric patients (age 18 months to 16 years) undergoing circumcision. BACKGROUND Open ureteric reimplantation by cross trigonal technique described by Cohen is considered a common surgical option for correction of vesicoureteral reflux(VUR). There is a lack of evidence in literature though for what happens to such kidneys, in the long run, particularly those which are poorly *** To assess the long-term outcomes of ureteric reimplantation in poorly functioning kidneys in children with unilateral primary *** Children with unilateral primary VUR and a relative renal function of less than 35% who underwent open or laparoscopic ureteric reimplantation between January 2005 and January 2017 were included in the study. patients who had a follow up of less than five years were excluded. preoperative evaluation consisted of a voiding cystourethrogram and Dimercaptosuccinic acid(DMSA) scan. In the follow-up period, patients underwent a diuretic scan at 6 weeks and 6 *** up ultrasound was done for change in grade of hydronephrosis and retrovesical ureteric diameter. Subsequent follow up was done at 6 monthly intervals with evaluation for proteinuria and hypertension and any recurrent urinary tract infection(UTI). For assessment of cortical function, DMSA was repeated annually for 5 years after surgery. A paired-samples t-test was used to test the mean difference of DMSA between pre-post *** During this period, 36 children underwent ureteric reimplantation for unilateral primary VUR. The discussion focuses on logically explaining how the negative/positive pC eigenvectors (loadings) in combination with strong reflection/absorption spectral behavior at different pixels affect the DN values in the output pC images. It is an explanatory article so that fuller potential of the pCT applications can be realized.

INTRODUCTION:Cystone is an approved Ayurvedic polyherbal proprietary medicine used in India for various urinary disorders,including ***:To evaluate the protective effect of Cystone against hyperoxaluria-induced oxidative stress and calcium oxalate crystal deposition in ***:Ethylene glycol(EG)(0.75%,V/V)in drinking water was given to rats for 28 days to induce urolithiasis with simultaneous treatment of Cystone(500 and 750 mg/kg body weight),and various urinary risk factors of urolithiasis and antioxidant markers were ***:EG treatment lead to increased urine volume and lowered urinary pH,along with increased urinary excretion of oxalate,calcium and phosphate in untreated *** changes caused extensive calcium oxalate crystal deposition,increased lipid peroxidation and decreased activity of antioxidant enzymes(SOD,catalase and Gpx)in the kidney of untreated *** prevented these hyperoxaluric manifestations and inhibited calcium oxalate crystal deposition in treated rats at both ***:Cystone therapy provides protection against hyperoxaluria-induced oxidative stress and calcium oxalate crystal deposition by improving renal tissue antioxidant status and diuresis.
