Sheet-metal products are integral parts of engineering industries and academia research. Various testing techniques have revealed the deformation behaviors of sheet metals under complex stress states. Information obtained from tensile and compression tests, however, are insufficient for the identification of material parameters relevant to modern constitutive laws, which require experimental setups capable of generating various loading conditions and applying great amounts of strain to sheet metals. In-plane shear testing has emerged as an important method to overcome the challenges associated with tension and compression tests and can provide additional information about deformation behaviors under large plastic strains. Materials such as Mg alloys with poor levels of both ductility and formability cannot accommodate large plastic strains. Therefore, tension and compression tests have limitations in explaining the material behaviors that occur during sheet metal forming where large plastic strains are introduced. Many studies have been conducted to explain the deformation behaviors of Mg alloys under shear deformation techniques. These include severe plastic deformation(SPD), especially the equal channel angular pressing(ECAP)and equal channel angular extrusion, rolling combined with shear deformation i.e. differential speed rolling(DSr), and also in-plane shear for sheet metals, particularly under large levels of plastic strain. These in-plane shear technique involves the Miyauchi shear test, ASTM shear test, and twin bridge shear tests. Moreover, many experimental results have revealed that the evolution of microstructure and texture during in-plane shear is closely related to the failure behavior of materials. Computer aided design and analysis of a tunable muzzle brake

This research work deals with the design of a tunable muzzle brake [10] for a rifle chambered in 5.56 x 45 NATO ammunition. It proposes to solve the problem of handling differences from shooter to shooter by incorporating the feature of tunability. Beside this, it also solves the problem of requirement of optimum recoil in short recoil weapons. This innovation gives this design an edge over its already existing counterparts in the market. The product is designed using the internal ballistics calculations and the investigations been performed using solidworks flow simulation tool and ANSYS static structural to check the parameters like velocity distribution, pressure growth, and muzzle brake force along the series of ports and comparison of the so found results with those devised by the authors of the documents mentioned in references. This assures the market adaptability of the product for satisfactory performance, when brought among its already existing counterpart, though with a slight edge over them due to tunability. The results so found shall be concluded satisfactory regarding the performance of muzzle brake.

Magnetizations and magneto-transport properties of Ni-doped PrFeO_3 thin films

The present study reports the magnetizations and magneto-transport properties of PrFel_xNixO3 thin films grown by pulsed laser ablation technique on LaA103 snbstrates. From DC M/H plots of these films, weak ferromagnetism or ferrimagnetism behaviors are observed. With Ni substitution, reduction in saturation magnetization is also seen. With Ni doping, variations in saturation field （Hs）, coercive field （Hc）, Weiss temperature （0）, and effective magnetic moment （Pelf） are seen. A small change of magnetoresitance with application of higher field is observed. Various essential parameters like density of state （Nf） at Fermi level, Mott＇s characteristic temperature （To）, and activation energy （Ea） in the presence of and in the absence of magnetic field are calculated. The present observed magnetic properties are related to the change of Fe-O bond length （causing an overlap between the oxygen p orbital and iron d orbital） and the deviation of the Fe-O-Fe angle from 180~. reduction of magnetic domain after Ni doping is also explored to explain the present observed magnetic behavior of the system. The influence of doping on various transport properties in these thin films indicates a distortion in the lattice structure and single particle band width, owing to stress-induced reduction in unit cell volume.

Dynamic tensile characterization of pig skin

The strain-rate dependent response of porcine skin oriented in the fiber direction is explored under tensile loading. Quasi-static response was obtained at strain rates in the range of 10-3s-1to 25 s-1. Characterization of the response at even greater strain rates is accomplished by measuring the spatio-temporal evolution of the particle velocity and strain in a thin strip subjected to high speed impact loading that generates uniaxial stress conditions. These experiments indicate the formation of shock waves; the shock Hugoniot that relates particle velocity to the shock velocity and the dynamic stress to dynamic strain is obtained directly through experimental measurements, without any assumptions regarding the constitutive properties of the material.

Effects of second diffusing component and cross diffusion on primary and secondary thermoconvective instabilities in couple stress liquids

Linear and weakly nonlinear analyses are made for the rayleigh-Benard convection in two-component couple-stress liquids with the Soret effect. Conditions for pitchfork, Hopf, Takens-Bogdanov, and codimension-two bifurcations are presented. The Lorenz model is used to study the inverted bifurcation. Positive values of the Soret coefficient favor a pitchfork bifurcation, whereas negative values favor a Hopf bifurcation. Takens-Bogdanov and codimension-two bifurcations are not as much influenced by the Soret coefficient as pitchfork and Hopf bifurcations. The influence of the Soret coefficient on the inverted bifurcation is similar to the influence on the pitchfork bifurcation. The in- fluence of other parameters on the aforementioned bifurcations is also similar as reported earlier in the literature. Using the Newell-Whitehead-Segel equation, the condition for occurrence of Eckhaus and zigzag secondary instabilities is obtained. The domain of ap- pearance of Eckhaus and zigzag instabilities expands due to the presence of the Soret coefficient for positive values. The Soret coefficient with negative values enhances heat transport, while positive values diminish it in comparison with heat transport for the case without the Soret effect. The dual nature of other parameters in influencing heat and mass transport is shown by considering positive and negative values of the Soret coefficient.

Effect of local longitudinal shortening on the transport of luminal contents through small intestine

A theoretical analysis of the rheological fluid flow due to peristalsis is studied. We have applied the classical lubrication theory to predict the near physiological behavior of the intestinal segment, mixing and transport. A parametric study involving the changes in local longitudinal shortening (LLS) magnitude, LLS spacing, fluid viscosity, wavelength of the wave, and occlusion of lumen caused by the wave provided insights into the dynamics of the peristalsis flow of a non-Newtonian fluid. LLS appear to have little significance in modulating the flow patterns that are caused by circular contraction alone. results also indicate that there exists trade-off between the power requirement for peristalsis at a certain occlusion against the percentage LLS. LLS appear to be more advantageous to perform the peristalsis activity at higher occlusion than lower occlusion. Having mucosal folds in the inner lining of the intestine allows for one more advantage of slowing the transit due to increased friction factor and increase in time for absorption of the nutrients.

High Phenotypic Variation in Morus alba L. along an Altitudinal Gradient in the Indian Trans-Himalaya

Ten quantitative morphological characters were studied in 56 Morus alba L. trees representing three natural populations from the trans-Himalayan Ladakh region. The altitude of collection sites ranged from 2815 to 3177 m above the sea level(asl). Coefficient of variation(CV) showed high phenotypic variation in M. alba. Linear regression analysis revealed that leaf and fruit size decreases with an increase in altitude. High CV was observed for leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, leaf area, internodal distance, number of nodes, bud length, fruit length, fruit width and fruit weight. Similarly, a high phenotypic plasticity index was observed for bud length, leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, leaf area, inter-nodal distance, number of nodes, fruit length, fruit width and fruit weight. For every 100 m increase in altitude, leaf length, leaf width and leaf area decreased by 1 cm, 0.8 cm and 16.6 cm2, respectively. Analysis of covariance showed a predominant altitudinal effect on the morphological characters in comparison to the population effect. A small change in the altitude caused significant change in the plant morphological characteristics. The present investigation represents to our knowledge the first study addressing phenotypic variation in mulberryalong an altitudinal gradient.
