Data from across the world have shown an overall decline in the antibiotic pipeline and continually rising resistance to all first-line and last-resort antibiotics. The gaps in our knowledge of existing prevalence and mechanisms of antibiotic resistance(AbR) are all too well known. Several decades of antibiotic abuse in humans, animals, and agricultural practices have created health emergency situations and huge socio-economic impact. This paper discusses key findings of the studies conducted by several national and international collaborative organizations on the current state of affairs in ***, a brief overview of the antibacterial agents' discovery in recent years approved by the US FDA is discussed.

Antimalarial drug artesunate affords protection against carrageenan induced acute inflammation in rat

Artesunate, an antimalarial drug, has been shown to inhibit the release of inflammatory mediators in various disease conditions. The present study was carried out to evaluate the anti-edematogenic effect of arte- sunate in the rat paw edema model. Inflammation was induced in the hind paw of rat by sub-plantar injection of 0.1 mL of 0.5% carrageenan and the paw volume was measured up to a fixed mark just before the injection and then after 3 h. The difference in two volumes gave a measure of edema formation. At 3h the level of TNF-α, PGE_(2) and myeloperoxidase were estimated in the inflamed paw tissue. Treatment of rats with single dose of artesunate at 50 and 150 mg/kg produced a dose-dependent inhibition in paw inflammation where a significant reduction in edema volume and mediator release was observed. Our study shows that by inhibiting the release of inflam- matory mediators artesunate affords protection against acute inflammation induced in the rat paw and suggests that it has a potential to be used in the treatment of inflammatory disease conditions.

Performance optimization of tri-gate junctionless FinFET using channel stack engineering for digital and analog/RF design

This manuscript explores the behavior of a junctionless tri-gate FinFET at the nano-scale region using SiGe material for the *** the analysis,three different channel structures are used:(a)tri-layer stack channel(TLSC)(Si-SiGe-Si),(b)double layer stack channel(DLSC)(SiGe-Si),(c)single layer channel(SLC)(S_(i)).The I−V characteristics,subthreshold swing(SS),drain-induced barrier lowering(DIbL),threshold voltage(V_(t)),drain current(ION),OFF current(IOFF),and ON-OFF current ratio(ION/IOFF)are observed for the structures at a 20 nm gate *** is seen that TLSC provides 21.3%and 14.3%more ON current than DLSC and SLC,*** paper also explores the analog and RF factors such as input transconductance(g_(m)),output transconductance(gds),gain(gm/gds),transconductance generation factor(TGF),cut-off frequency(f_(T)),maximum oscillation frequency(f_(max)),gain frequency product(GFP)and linearity performance parameters such as second and third-order harmonics(g_(m2),g_(m3)),voltage intercept points(VIP_(2),VIP_(3))and 1-db compression points for the three *** results show that the TLSC has a high analog performance due to more gm and provides 16.3%,48.4%more gain than SLC and DLSC,respectively and it also provides better *** the results are obtained using the VisualTCAD tool.

Antifertility effects of methanolic pod extract of Albizzia lebbeck (L.) benth in male rats

Aim: To evaluate the antifertility activity of the methanolic pod extract of Albizzia lebbeck (L.) benth in male albino rats. Methods: The methanolic pod extract of Albizzia lebbeck was administrated orally for 60 days at 50, 100 and 200 mg·kg-1·day-1 to male albino rats. Sperm motility and density in cauda epididymides were assessed. biochemical and histological analysis were performed in blood samples and reproductive organs. Results: A. lebbeck pod extract brought about a significant decrease in the weights of testis, seminal vesicles, epdidymis and ventral prostate. The sperm motility and density were significantly reduced. There was a marked reduction in the numbers of primary spermatocytes, secondary spermatocytes and spermatids. The Sertoli cell count as well as its cross sectional surface area were significantly decreased. The Leydig cell nuclear area and the number of mature Leydig celis were also significantly decreased. The protein, glycogen and cholesterol content of the testis, the fructose in the seminal vesicles and protein in the epididymis were significantly decreased. The RbC and WbC counts, haemoglobin, haematocrit and blood sugar were within the normai range. Conclusion: The methanolic extract of A. lebbeck pods causes spermatogenic arrest in male albino rats.

Growth of small diameter multi-walled carbon nanotubes by arc discharge process

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs） are grown by arc discharge method in a controlled methane environment. The arc discharge is produced between two graphite electrodes at the ambient pressures of 100 tort, 300 torr, and 500 torr. Arc plasma parameters such as temperature and density are estimated to investigate the influences of the ambient pressure and the contributions of the ambient pressure to the growth and the structure of the nanotubes. The plasma temperature and density are observed to increase with the increase in the methane ambient pressure. The samples of MWCNT synthesized at different ambient pressures are analyzed using transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction. An increase in the growth of MWCNT and a decrease in the inner tube diameter are observed with the increase in the methane ambient pressure.

Nano-sized reinforcements improved the mechanical characteristics efficiently by promoting more implicit particle hardening mechanisms compared to micron-sized ***-sized particles lessen the critical particle solidification velocity for swamp and thus offers better *** the present investigation,the friction stir processing(FSP)is utilized to produce AZ31/Al_(2)O_(3)nanocomposites at various tool rotation speeds(i.e.,900,1200,and 1500 rpm)with an optimized 1.5%volume alumina(Al_(2)O_(3))reinforcement *** mechanical and corrosion behavior of AZ31/Al_(2)O_(3)-developed nanocomposites was investigated and compared with that of the AZ31 base *** AZ31 alloy experienced a comprehensive dynamic recrystallization during FSP,causing substantial grain ***-size strengthening is the primary factor contributed to the enhancement in the strength of the fabricated *** strength and yield strength values were lower than those for the base metal matrix,although an upward trend in both values has been observed with an increase in tool rotation *** 19.72%increase in hardness along with superior corrosion resistance was achieved compared to the base alloy at a tool rotational speed of 1500 *** corrosion currents(Jcorr)of all samples dropped with increase in the rotational speed,in contrast to the corrosion potentials(Ecorr),which *** values of Jcorr of AZ31/Al_(2)O_(3)were 42.3%,56.8%,and 65.5%lower than those of AZ31 alloy at the chosen rotating speeds of 900,1200,and 1500 rpm,*** corrosion behavior of friction stir processed nanocomposites have been addressed in this manuscript which has not been given sufficient attention in the existing ***,this work offers an effective choice for the quality assurance of the FSP process of AZ31/Al_(2)O_(3)*** obtained results are relevant to the development of lightweight automobile and aerospace structures and components
