Brain computer interface(BCI)systems permit individuals with motor disorders to utilize their thoughts as a mean to control external *** is a promising interdisciplinary field that gained the attention of many ***,the development of BCI systems is facing several challenges,such as network *** Medium Access Control(MAC)Protocol is the bottle-neck of network *** are many MAC protocols that can be utilized for dependable transmission in BCI applications by altering their control ***,modifying these parameters is another source of concern due to the scarcity in knowledge about the effect of ***,there is still no instrument that can receive and actualize these parameters on transmitters embedded inside the *** this paper,we propose two novel MAC protocols using passive UHF-RFID,the proposed protocols provide efficient and reliable communication between the transmitters and the *** UHF-RFID transmitters were used because they are energy efficient which makes them compatible with BCI *** first protocol is designed for the EEG *** the second protocol was designed for the ECoG *** evaluation results showed the validity of the proposed protocols in terms of network *** results also proved that the protocols are suitable and reliable for designing efficient BCI applications.

Soil erosion is a serious problem arising from agricultural intensification, land degradation and other anthropogenic activities. Assessment of soil erosion is useful in planning and conservation works in a watershed or basin. Modelling can provide a quantitative and consistent approach to estimate soil erosion and sediment yield under a wide range of conditions. In the present study, the soil loss model, Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation （RUSLE） integrated with GIS has been used to estimate soil loss in the Nethravathi Basin located in the southwestern part of India. The Nethravathi Basin is a tropical coastal humid area having a drainage area of 3128 km2 up to the gauging station. The parameters of RUSLE model were estimated using remote sensing data and the erosion probability zones were determined using GIS. The estimated rainfall erosivity, soil erodibility, topographic and crop management factors range from 2948.16 to 4711.4 MJ/***-1hr-1/year, 0.10 to 0.44 t ha-1 -*** 1, 0 to 92,774 and 0 to 0.63 respectively. The results indicate that the estimated total annual potential soil loss of about 473,339 t/yr is comparable with the measured sediment of 441,870 t/yr during the water year 2002 2003. The predicted soil erosion rate due to increase in agricultural area is about 14,673.5 t/yr. The probability zone map has been derived by the weighted overlay index method indicate that the major portion of the study area comes under low probability zone and only a small portion comes under high and very high probability zone. The results can certainly aid in implementation of soil management and conservation practices to reduce the soil erosion in the Nethravathi Basin.

In a previous study from our laboratory, fucoxanthin purified from brown algae, Sargassum wightii Greville has found to exhibit antioxidant activity and inhibition of angiotensin-I-converting enzyme(ACE)in vitro. The present study aims in understanding the protective effect of fucoxanthin purified from S. wightii against diabetes with hypertension in in vivo. Diabetes and hypertension were induced in rat by streptozotocin and sodium chloride treatment, respectively. In diabetes with hypertension rat, the blood pressure was increased along with hyperglycemia. Administration of fucoxanthin significantly reduced the blood pressure and ACE activity in diabetes with hypertension rat. Furthermore, administration of fucoxanthin significantly reduced the hyperglycemic state. The activity of various enzymes in the liver(hexokinase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, glucose-6-phosphatase and fructose-1,6-phosphatase)and serum(creatine kinase)were normalized to that of control level. The level of glycogen, glycoprotein component and lipid profile were equivalent to control level by fucoxanthin administration in diabetes with hypertension rats. Fucoxanthin ameliorated the oxidative stress by preserving the endogenous antioxidant levels in diabetes with hypertension rats. Also, the pancreatic histological integrity was similar to that of control level in diabetes with hypertension rats by fucoxanthin treatment. Altogether, fucoxanthin showed dual antidiabetic and antihypertensive activity in vivo.

The flow behavior in non-parallel walls is an important factor of any physical model including cavity flow and canals, which is applicable for diverging/converging channel. The present communication explains that the flow of the hybrid nanomaterial subjected to the convergent/divergent channel has non-parallel walls. It is assumed that the hybrid nanomaterial movement is in the porous region. A Darcy-Forchheimer medium of porosity is considered to interpret the porosity features. A useful similarity function is adopted to get the strong ordinary coupled equations. Numerical solutions are achieved through the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg(RKF) fourth-fifth order method, and they are validated with the existing results. Physical nature of the involving constraints is reported with the help of plots. It is explored that the velocity of divergent channel decreases, and convergent channel enhances for the higher solid volume faction. Further, the presence of inertia coefficient and porosity parameter amplifies the velocity at the wall.

A semi-flexible binder-free graphitic carbon nitride(g-CN) intercalated polypyrrole(PPy) nanocomposite thin film was prepared via hybrid electrospray technique. A homogeneous thin film was achieved by the controlled spray process. A deposited thin film illustrated the amorphous nature of composite with high surface purity and good chemical composition. The surface analysis confirmed the smoother surface with well-defined distinct phases of g-CNand PPy matrix in the composite thin film. The electrochemical studies exhibited that a maximum areal capacity of the thin film was achieved to be 289.6 mF/cm~2 at a current density of 0.4 mA/cm~2,which is higher than that of pristine PPy(194.8 mF/cm~2). The heterostructure electrode illustrated that the life cycles of 99% could be up to 10,000 cycles with low resistance due to the synergetic effect of g-CNand PPy matrix with strong material adhesion(hybrid spray process) on the surface. A binder-free heterostructure thin film will play a significant role in the energy storage application.

Alport syndrome is an X-linked syndrome that results in nephritis, renal failure, sensorineural hearing loss, and eye deficits. As a result of sensorineural hearing loss, these individuals are likely to experience difficulties in the area of speech and language. While studies in the past have examined the speech and language characteristics of children with syndromic sensorineural hearing loss, to our knowledge there are no previous studies to have documented the speech and language characteristics of these children on a long-term basis. The current study addresses this limitation by reporting speech, language, hearing, and function of twin brothers with X-linked Alport syndrome across a seven-year *** was collected by examining the medical records of the participants as well as through a verbal interview with the participants' guardian. Results revealed that the participants' hearing abilities gradually deteriorated over the seven-year period which affected their speech and language development as well. The kidney function tests revealed significant presence of hematuria(blood in the urine) as well as proteinuria(protein in the urine) suggesting chronic kidney dysfunction. This longitudinal study demonstrates the functional relationship between the kidneys and the cochlea, although they appear to be independent of one another. As individuals with Alport syndrome exhibit systemic complications, interdisciplinary collaboration is essential among health care providers including audiologists, speech-language pathologists,nephrologists, and ophthalmologist to promote evidence-based practice.

Plasticized Polymer Electrolyte Membranes Based on PEO/PVdF-HFP for Use as an Effective Electrolyte in Lithium-ion Batteries

Plasticized polymer electrolytes were prepared using poly（ethylene oxide）(PEO)/poly（vinylidene fluoridehexafluoro propylene）(PVd F-HFP) with lithium perchlorate（Li Cl O4） and different plasticizers. XRD and FTIR spectroscopic techniques were used to characterize the structure and the complexation of plasticizer with the host polymer matrix. The role of interaction between polymer hosts and plasticizer on conductivity is discussed using the results of alternating current（a.c.） impedance studies. TG-DTA and SEM were used for thermal and physical characterizations. Maximum ionic conductivity(3.26 × 10;S·cm;) has been observed for ethylene carbonate（EC）-based polymer electrolytes. Electrochemical performance of the plasticized polymer electrolyte is evaluated in LiFePO;/plasticized polymer electrolytes（PPEs）/Li coin cell. Good performance with low capacity fading on charge discharge cycling is demonstrated.
