Anti-proliferative and apoptotic efficacy of diallyl disulfide onEhrlich ascites carcinoma

Aim:This study was conducted to assess the in vivo and in vitro anti-tumor effects of diallyl disulfi de(DADS)against Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)and to suggest its probable mechanism of ***:EAC was induced in female mice by intraperitoneal injection of EAC-cells from stock ***-bearing mice were orally treated with 100 mg/kg body weight for 2 weeks beginning from the 1st day of EAC intraperitoneal *** effects of DADS against EAC-cells in vitro were investigated at different concentrations(0,6.25,12.5,25,50,and 100μg/mL)of DADS using trypan blue exclusion ***:Data from this study exhibited a signifi cant decrease in EAC-aliquot volume as well as total and alive EAC-cell number and a marked increase in dead EAC-cell number and percent in EAC-bearing mice treated with DADS as compared with EAC-bearing *** changes were consistent with increased number of cells which exhibited phenotypic apoptotic signs marked by a decrease in the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2,an increase of pro-apoptotic and cell cycle arrest mediator p53 and an elevation of DNA fragmenting indicator terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase in EAC-bearing mice treated with *** addition,the tumor marker sialic acid level was markedly decreased in plasma and Ehrlich ascites in EAC-bearing mice treated with *** vitro,DADS also produced anti-proliferative and anti-tumor cytotoxic potentials against ***:DADS may have anti-cancer effects which may be mediated via modulation of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest.

ANFIS-PID Control FES-Supported Sit-to-Stand in Paraplegics: (Simulation Study)

Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) controller was designed to control knee joint during sit to stand movement through electrical stimuli to quadriceps muscles. The developed ANFIS works as an inverse model to the system (functional electrical stimulation (FES)-induced quadriceps-lower leg system), while there is a proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller in the feedback control. They were designated as ANFIS-PID controller. To evaluate the ANFIS-PID controller, two controllers were developed: open loop and feedback controllers. The results showed that ANFIS-PID controller not only succeeded in controlling knee joint motion during sit to stand movement, but also reduced the deviations between desired trajectory and actual knee movement to ±5°. Promising simulation results provide the potential for feasible clinical application in the future.

Aggression and violence in the workplace is an act or threat of violence ranging from verbal abuse to physical assaults against individuals employed or on duty(CDC,2019).It is considered a global public health issue faced by staff across different sectors,including the healthcare *** on many studies,Oman recorded a high level of workplace violence against nurses among all Gulf Cooperation Council countries[1-3].Al Maskari,et al.(2020)found that throughout Oman,violence in the workplace is highly prevalent among nurses in the emergency department[4].The goal of the current policy is to highlight the value of implementing such a policy.

A Comparative Study of the Typhidot (Dot-EIA) versus Widal Test in Diagnosis of Typhoid Fever among Egyptian Patients

Background and Study Aim: Typhoid (Enteric) fever is a systemic infection caused by Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi. It is endemic in the developing countries including Egypt. Different diagnostic tools can achieve diagnosis and include cultures from the blood, stool, bone marrow, rarely urine for isolation of the organism. Antibody detection by Widal test and relatively recent typhoid are also used. The current study aimed at comparing the most commonly used antibody detection Widal test with the rapid antibody detection typhidot for diagnosis of typhoid fever among Egyptian adults. Patients and Methods: The study included 140 patients who are presented with picture suggestive of typhoid fever. Confirmed cases after the blood culture were included in the final analysis. Widal and typhidot tests were performed in all patients and were compared for sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy. Results: 45 patients out of 140 were diagnosed as typhoid fever by blood culture. Out of them, Widal test was positive in 39 patients with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of 86.7%, 89.5%, 79.5%, 93.4% and 88.5% respectively. Typhidot test was positive in 42 patients with sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy of 93.3%, 90.6%, 82.3%, 96.6%, and 91.4% respectively (P = 0.00). Conclusions: Typhidot test is reliable, simple highly sensitive and specific test in diagnosing typhoid fever when compared with Widal test.

P2X7 purinoceptor promotes survival or cytotoxicity depending on extraceUular adenosine triphosphate （ATP） stimulus Intensity controlling its ion channel or P2X7-dependent large pore （LP） functions. Mechanisms governing this operational divergence and functional idiosyncrasy are ill-understood. We have discovered a feedback loop where sustained activation of P2X7 triggers release of active matrix metalloproteinase 2 （MMP-2）, which halts ion channel and LP responses via the MMP-2-dependent receptor cleavage. This mechanism operates in cells as diverse as macrophages, dystrophic myoblasts, P2X7-transfected HEK293, and human tumour cells. Given that serum-born MMP-2 activity also blocked receptor functions, P2X7 responses in vivo may decrease in organs with permeable capillaries. Therefore, this mechanism represents an Important fine-tuning of P2X7 functions, reliant on both cell-autonomous and extraneous factors. Indeed, it allowed evasion from the ATP-induced cvtotoxicity in macrophages and human cancer ceils with high P2X7 expression levels. Finally, we demonstrate that P2X7 ablation eliminated getatinase activity in inflamed dystrophic muscles in vivo. Thus, P2X7 antagonists could be used as an alternative to highly toxic MMP inhibitors in treatments of inflammatory diseases and cancers.

The Effect of Early versus Traditional Hospital Discharge on Activities of Daily Living for Women Undergoing Elective Cesarean Section. An Observational Cohort Study

Background: Cesarean section is one of the most common surgeries performed worldwide and its consequences and complications represent a major public health concern. The policy of enhanced recovery after surgery has been implemented after cesarean section to optimize perioperative care. Enhanced recovery also aims to reduce the length of hospital stay, which might imply substantial healthcare savings. Rising hospital costs are one of the factors in early discharge. Patients & Methods: This was a prospective cohort study. 158 patients met the inclusion criteria of the study, 81 patients were discharged after 48 hours and 77 patients were discharged after 24 hours. All patients received the same postoperative care and instructions. All the study participants received a phone call 1, 3, and 5 days after discharge to objectively assess the activities of daily living through Katz index of independence in activities of daily living. All patients were offered a postpartum visit 1 week after discharge during which the wound was assessed by the Southampton wound assessment scale. Moreover, other maternal complications such as mastitis, puerperal sepsis, or pyelonephritis were assessed and cases who were readmitted were documented. Initiation of successful breastfeeding and neonatal readmission were reported as well. Results: 158 patients met the inclusion/exclusion criteria of the study. There was no significant difference between the two arms of the study regarding baseline characteristics. Katz index of independence showed that the resumption of activities of daily living after CS was similar in both arms of the study on days 1, 3 and 5 after discharge. Time till the passage of flatus and stool after the cesarean section was significantly shorter among the early discharge arm (9.31 VS 14.68, p value < 0.001 & 13.25 VS 24.82, p value < 0.001 respectively). Role of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis and staging of urinary bladder cancer

Objectives:To assess the role of multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging(mp-MRI)in the diagnosis and staging of urinary bladder cancer(BC).Materials and methods:Fifty patients diagnosed with bladder masses underwent mp-MRI *** results of 3 image sets were analyzed and compared with the histopathological results as a reference standard:T2-weighted image(T2WI)plus dynamic contrast-enhanced(DCE),T2WI plus diffusion-weighted images(DWI),and mp-MRI,including T2WI plus DWI and *** diagnostic accuracy of mp-MRI was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic curve ***:The accuracy of T2WI plus DCE for detecting muscle invasion of BC was 79.5%with a fair agreement with histopathological examination(κ=0.59);this percentage increased up to 88.6%using T2WI plus DWI,with good agreement with histopathological examination(κ=0.74),whereas mp-MRI had the highest overall accuracy(95.4%)and excellent agreement with histopathological data(κ=0.83).Multiparametric MRI can differentiate between low-and high-grade bladder tumors with a high sensitivity and specificity of 93.3%and 98.3%,***:Multiparametric MRI is an acceptable method for the preoperative detection and accurate staging of BC,with reasonable accuracy in differentiating between low-and high-grade BC.
