The Influence of Control Design on Energetic Cost during FES Induced Sit-to-Sta.d

This pa.er highlights the benefits of using intelligent model ba.ed controllers to produce FES induced sit-to-sta.d movement (FES-STS), in terms of reducing energy cost a.d producing more na.ura. responses in compa.ison with conventiona. controllers. a.muscle energy expenditure model for the qua.riceps is implemented in the control design of FES-STS, then simula.ion is run for three different control designs: a. a.a.tive neuro-fuzzy inference system controller (a.FIS), a.conventiona. PID controller, a.d a.hybrid a.FIS-PID controller. The PID control stra.egy results in nega.ive energy expenditure of the qua.riceps a. the end of the STS initia.ion pha.e, this nega.ive energy is ca.sed by the high lengthening speeds a. the muscle fiber level, which ma. lea. to muscle fa.igue or da.a.e. Contra.y to PID controller, model ba.ed controllers show positive energy expenditure, lower energy costs, a.d more na.ura. curves of energy expenditure a.d knee torques.

Considering tha. the involvement of rea.tive oxygen species （ROS） ha. been implica.ed in the toxicity of va.ious pesticides, this study wa. designed to study the a.eliora.ive effect of Vita.in E （100 mg/kg body weight） on mice （25 -30 mg） trea.ed with dia.inon （32.5 or 16.25 mg/kg body weight） orga.ophospha.e insecticide for 14 da.s. Subehronic DZN exposure a.d the protective effects of vita.ins E （vitE） were eva.ua.ed for their effects on ha.ma.ologica. indices, the enzymes concerning liver da.a.e [pla.ma.a.a.ine a.inotra.sfera.e （ a.T）, a.pa.ta.e a.inota.a.sfera.e （ a.T）, a.ka.ine phospha.ise （ a.P）, a.d some pa.a.eters of kidney function （urea.a.d crea.inine） in mice. a.ditiona.ly, the histopa.hologica. cha.ges in liver a.d kidney tissue were exa.ined. The high dose of dia.inon （DZNH） decrea.ed the body weight significa.tly a. the end of experiment. a.ditiona.ly, the liver a.d kidney were exa.ines for histopa.hologica. cha.ges. The high dose of dia.inon decrea.ed body weight significa.dy. Moreover, there wa. a.sta.istica.ly significa.t decrea.e in ha.moglobin （Hb）, red blood cell （RBC） a.d hema.ocrit （Hct） in dia.inon-trea.ed mice compa.ed to controls. This decrea.e wa. pa.tia.ly remedied in the dia.inon-trea.ed group tha. a.so received vitE. Da.a.e in the liver a.d kidney tissues wa. a.so evident a. eleva.ed pla.ma.a.T, a.T, a.P, urea.a.d crea.inine. VitE pa.tia.ly countera.ts the toxic effect of DZN a.d repa.rs tissue da.a.e in the liver a.d kidney, especia.ly when supplemented to 1/4 LD50 intoxica.ed a.ima.s. Histopa.hologica. cha.ges in liver a.d kidney were observed only in 32.5 mg/kg DZN given group. These results suggest tha. the effects of DZN a.e dose dependent. No pa.hologica. findings were observed in vitE ＋ DZNtrea.ed groups. a.cording to the present study, we conclude tha. vitE ea. reduce the detrimenta. impa.ts of dia.inon on ha.ma.ologica. indicies, a. well a. liver a.d kidney function [ Current Zoology 55 （3）： 219 - 226, 2009].

Purpose: To investiga.e if intensity modula.ed ra.ia.ion thera.y (IMRT) offers a.better pla.ning ta.get volume (PTV) covera.e a.d/or lower dose to norma. thora.ic structures in compa.ison to three dimensiona. conforma. ra.ia.ion thera.y (3DCRT) in the trea.ment of mid a.d lower oesopha.ea. ca.cinoma.pa.ients. Ma.eria.s a.d Methods: a.prospective study in the period from 2014 till 2015 wa. held in the ra.ia.ion thera.y depa.tment of the Na.iona. Ca.cer Institute, Ca.ro University, in which 20 loca.ly a.va.ced or inopera.le mid a.d lower oesopha.ea. ca.cer pa.ients were trea.ed by chemo-ra.ia.ion using 3DCRT technique. IMRT pla.s were genera.ed for those 20 pa.ients. The 3DCRT a.d IMRT pla.s were compa.ed a. rega.ds PTV covera.e a.d doses to critica. orga.s a. risk. Results: a.l pla.s ha. produced sa.isfa.tory PTV covera.e with no significa.t differences noted. The lung V20 for both lungs in 3DCRT wa. 16.94% ± 4.2% which wa. increa.ed to 21.42% ± 3.6% in IMRT (p = 0.017). The mea. dose to the hea.t a.d V30 were higher in IMRT pla.s while the mea. dose to the spina. cord wa. higher with 3DCRT pla.s, yet tha. didn’t rea.h a.sta.istica.ly significa.t level (p = 0.156). The dose delivered to the liver didn’t pose a.y difference between both techniques. Conclusion: 3DCRT rema.ns to be a.fea.ible cost effective trea.ment delivery option for mid a.d lower oesopha.ea. ca.cer ca.es with a.lower optimiza.ion a.d delivery time tha. tha. for IMRT. Moreover, tha. ca.ls for further dosimetric studies a.d clinica. tria.s to a.sess IMRT technique. In our study, IMRT using nine fields didn’t prove to be superior to 3DCRT.

Objective: To a.sess the role of miRNa.12_3p a. a.specific bioma.ker in ea.ly detection of toxopla.mosis in pla.ma.of mice a.utely infected with Toxopla.ma.gondii. Methods: Rea.-time PCR wa. used to mea.ure the level of miRNa.12_3p in pla.ma.of infected mice. Immunecompetent a.d immune-suppressed mice were exa.ined, three a.d five da.s post-infection. Results: Results revea.ed significa.t up-regula.ion of pla.ma.miRNa.12_3p in both immunecompetent a.d immune-compromised groups in compa.ison to the control non-infected group. a.ditiona.ly, a. increa.e in the level of miRNa.12_3p wa. noticed correspondently in the pa.a.ite density detected in liver impression smea.s. Conclusions: miRNa.12_3p ca. be used a. a.novel bioma.ker for the detection of Toxopla.ma.gondii infection in both immunecompetent a.d immune-compromised host.
