Systematic literature review of the antitumor effect of octreotide in neuroendocrine tumors

AIM To provide a comprehensive examination of the existing evidence of the antitumor effect of long-acting octreotide in neuroendocrine tumors(NETs).METHODS A systematic literature review of clinical trials and observational studies was conducted in PubM ed, EMBASE, and Cochrane through January 18, 2017. Conference abstracts for 2015 and 2016 from 5 scientific meetings were also *** Of 41 articles/abstracts identified, 13 unique studies compared octreotide with active or no treatment. Two of the 13 studies were clinical trials; the remaining were observational studies. The phase 3 Placebo-Controlled, Double-Blind, Prospective, Randomized Study of the Effect of Octreotide long-acting repeatable(LAR) in the Control of Tumor Growth in Patients with MetastaticNeuroendocrine Midgut Tumors clinical trial showed that long-acting octreotide significantly prolonged time to tumor progression compared with placebo in patients with functionally active and inactive metastatic midgut NETs; no statistically significant difference in overall survival(OS) was observed, possibly due to the crossover of placebo patients to octreotide. Retrospective observational studies found that long-acting octreotide use was associated with significantly longer OS than no octreotide use for patients with distant metastases although not for those with local/regional disease. CONCLUSION The clinical trial and observational studies with informative evidence support long-acting octreotide's antitumor effect on time to tumor progression and OS. This review showed the rarity of existing studies assessing octreotide's antitumor effect and recommends that future research is warranted.

The conventional pseudo-dynamic(CPD)and modified pseudo-dynamic(MPD)methods are invoked to obtain the seismic bearing capacity of strip foundations using the limit equilibrium method,with a two-wedge failure mechanism.A spectral version of the conventional pseudo-dynamic method(SPD)is also invoked by considering the ground motion amplification factor,to be a function of the non-dimensional frequencyλ/B and soil *** analyses show that bearing capacity results obtained by the MPD and SPD methods are generally *** experience the same general reduction in bearing capacity with the increase ofλ/B,with successive ups and downs corresponding to soil′s natural *** 5<λ/B<10,SPD and MPD results fluctuated between falling above and below CPD ***λ/B<2.5,SPD and MPD results were consistent with attenuation of the shear wave,while for 10<λ/B,amplification was *** obtained by the CPD method monotonically decrease,due to the fact that CPD fails to inherently consider site effects and damping,and instead and relies on a single factor to consider the ground motion amplification.

Enhancing flood risk assessment in northern Morocco with tuned machine learning and advanced geospatial techniques

Mapping floods is crucial for effective disaster management. This study focuses on flood assessment in northern Morocco, specifically Tangier, Tetouan, and Larache. Due to the lack of a comprehensive flood inventory map, we used unsupervised learning techniques, such as K-means clustering and fuzzy logic algorithms, to predict flood-prone areas. We identified nine conditioning factors influencing flood risk: elevation, slope, aspect, plan curvature, profile curvature, land use, soil type, normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI), and topographic position index(TPI). Using Landsat-8 imagery and a Digital Elevation Model(DEM) within a Geographic Information System(GIS), we analyzed topographic and geo-environmental variables. K-means clustering achieved silhouette scores of 0.66 in Tangier and 0.70 in Tetouan, while the fuzzy logic method in Larache produced a Davies-Bouldin Index(DBI) score of 0.35. The maps classified flood risk levels into low, moderate, and high categories. This research demonstrates the integration of machine learning and remote sensing for predicting flood-prone areas without existing flood inventory maps. Our findings highlight the main factors contributing to flash floods and assess their impact, enhancing the understanding of flood dynamics and improving flood management strategies in vulnerable regions.

Objective: To investigate the potential of anemonin and Clematis flammula(***) extracts against infective ***: The molluscicidal activities of anemonin and *** extracts against Galba truncatula Mull.(Lymnaeidae) and Fasciola hepatica larval stages contaminating this snail in Tunisia were assessed by testing six groups of snails in 250 mL of extracts and aqueous dechlorinated solutions with different concentrations(ranging from 2.5 to 20.0 mg/L) for 48 ***, the antifungal potential of *** leaves and flowers was evaluated by using the diffusion agar and broth dilution methods against four fungal strains: Aspergillus niger, Pythium catenulatum, Rhizoctonia solani and Fusarium ***: As a result, hexane and ethyl acetate flower extracts exhibited significant molluscicidal activities with LC_(50) median lethal concentrations values of 11.87 and 11.65 mg/L, respectively while LC_(50) value of anemonin was 9.64 mg/L after 48 h *** flower extracts showed a larvicidal effect with a deterioration rate exceeding 35.39% where flower ethyl acetate residue gave a deterioration rate of cercariae close to 97%.Moreover, *** extracts were not noxious to the associated fauna *** extracts inhibited the growth of ***, the leaves and flowers methanolic extracts had the more important fungicide action with minimum inhibitory concentrations of 1.56 and 3.12 mg/mL together with minimum fungistatic concentrations of 3.12 and 6.25 mg/mL *** flower extracts were active against Rhizoctonia solani with minimum inhibitory concentrations varying between 0.70 and 1.56 mg/mL and 6.25 mg/mL of minimum fungistatic *** tests showed that the antifungal activity may be attributed to the presence of the flavonoids/saponins in the methanolic extracts and the molluscicide effects could be due to the richness of hexane and ethyl acetate extracts on sterols and ***

Are IFRS Harder to Implement for Emerging Economies Compared to Developed Countries？ A Literature Review

In practice, the international accounting harmonization process faces cultural resistance in the concrete situations of accounting reforms. We often tend to believe that this resistance is felt more in the so-called emerging countries, rather than the developed ones. It is precisely this idea that the paper attempts to analyze, based on a literature review. The literature shows that emerging countries do not have the infrastructure or the real needs justifying a reform of international harmonization, except the need to display an IFRS label （Daske, Hail, Leuz, ＆ Verdi, 2007）, to facilitate the access of firms from emerging economies to developed financial markets. Moreover, the Anglo-American culture attached to IFRS leads to a difficulty in adopting those standards by any country whose original accounting system is continental. Indeed, for these countries, the process of international harmonization begins with an adaptation to the Anglo-Saxon accounting culture, the latter being different from the continental accounting culture at several levels.

Recently, lanthanum oxide doped by group IIA elements may strongly influence solid state reaction. A series of samples, noted LaSrX (where X = % atomic of strontium) have been prepared by hydrolysis, in neutral medium from La2O3 and SrCO3. These samples were calcined under air at 450?C and 1150?C then characterized by specific surface area (BET), X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetry (TG) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). Obtained results show that after calcinations at: 1) 450?C, the addition of strontium is without effect on surface of La2O3 and the XRD analysis revealed no interaction between lanthanum oxide and strontium carbonate;2) 1150?C, the sintering of the samples is very important, reduction of 70% of surfaces compared to the samples calcined at 450?C;XRD results show that LaSrX are formed principally by two oxides: SrLa2O4 and La2O3, which is confirmed by SEM method. The reaction between La2O3 and SrCO3 showed three endothermic weight losses;elimination of water, a partial dehydroxylation of La(OH)3 and formation of La2O2CO3 and La2(CO3)3.

Improvement in Reflectarray Antenna Bandwidth with Changing the Geometrical Shape

The method of this paper is based on change in the geometrical shape of the reflectarray plane which is similar to a concave shape and with this changing, it is tried to make the incident waves orthogonal as much as possible in order to remove the phase error caused by incident wave variation. The other benefit of this work is omitting frequency change error caused by path difference between reflectarray antenna bandwidth. Two types of reflectarray antennas operating at X-band frequency with a linear polarization are considered in this design: concave and flat reflectarray antennas with the diameter of 135 mm. elements which are used in this paper are variable-size patches. The proposed reflectarray antenna (concave) approximately has 25% 3-dB bandwidth which shows an increment in bandwidth about 18% compared to flat reflectarray antenna.

Two Independent Numerical Studies Demonstrating How to Efficiently Eliminate Electrolysis Side Reactions in Magneto-Hydro-Dynamic Pumping System

In this work, a numerical study for designing a new kind of MHD （Magneto-Hydrn-Dynamic） pumps is presented. This technique makes a compromise between electrolysis prevention and high flow rate performance. This technique should eliminate electrolytic bubble generation, electrodes wear and fluid propriety modification. All these side phenomena are prevented by considering isolated electrodes. The numerical presented results in this paper demonstrate that continuous MHD pumping is possible with isolated electrodes. The MHD excitation combines a high frequency altering current with a low frequency altering magnetic field. In order to validate our results, two independent theoretical methods for computing flow rate are followed. The two presented independent approaches show that high flow rate is possible even with isolated electrodes. To overcome the problem of dimensioning this kind of pumps, a generic numerical analysis is proposed. Hence, the pump performances as functions of the external parameter are studied and tools to calculate for a given fluid and the optimal high frequency regime are provided.
