Determination of blast-induced ground vibration equations for rocks using mechanical and geological properties

In the recent decades, effects of blast loads on natural and man-made structures have gained considerable attention due to increase in threat from various man-made activities. Site-specific empirical relationships for calculation of blast-induced vibration parameters like peak particle velocity （PPV） and peak particle displacement （PPD） are commonly used for estimation of blast loads in design. However, these relation- ships are not able to consider the variation in rock parameters and uncertainty of in situ conditions. In this paper, a total of 1089 published blast data of various researchers in different rock sites have been collected and used to propose generalized empirical model for PPV by considering the effects of rock parameters like unit weight, rock quality designation （ROD）, geological strength index （GSI）, and uniaxial compressive strength （UCS）. The proposed PPV model has a good correlation coefficient and hence it can be directly used in prediction of blast-induced vibrations in rocks. Standard errors and coefficient of correlations of the predicted blast-induced vibration parameters are obtained with respect to the observed field data. The proposed empirical model for PPV has also been compared with the empirical models available for blast vibrations predictions given by other researchers and found to be in good agreement with specific cases.

Exploring the potential of artificial intelligence techniques in prediction of the removal efficiency of vortex tube silt ejector

A vortex tube silt ejector is a curative hydraulic structure used to remove sediment deposits from canals and is recognized as one of the most efficient substitutes for physically removing canal sediment. The spatially varied flow in the channel and the rotational flow behavior in the tube make the silt removal process complex. It is even harder to accurately predict the silt removal efficiency by traditional models accurately. However, artificial intelligence(AI) and machine learning approaches have emerged as robust substitutes for studying complex processes. Therefore, this research makes use of AI approaches; support vector machine(SVM), random forest(RF), random tree(RT), and multivariate adaptive regression spline(MARS) to compute the vortex tube silt ejection efficiency using the laboratory data sets. The outcomes of the artificial intelligence(AI)-based techniques also were compared with traditional models. It was found that the RT model(root mean square error, RMSE = 2.165, Nash Sutcliffe efficiency, NSE = 0.98) outperforms the other applied approaches which had relatively more significant result errors. The sensitivity analysis of the process depicts the extraction ratio as the key parameter in the computation of vortex tube silt ejector removal efficiency. The findings of the AI-based approaches discussed in the current study might be helpful for hydraulic engineers as well as researchers in the assessment of the removal efficiency of vortex tube silt ejectors.

The waste,subgrade ROM and fine dumps of iron ore mines are characterized by high rock fragment contents,low moisture retention capacity,higher bulk density,low nutrients,lower pH and elevated metal *** of suitable revegetation programme,that require the selection of right type of plants to be used vis-à-vis the site condition and characteristics,can enhance the long-term stability,both mechanical and ecological,of dumps(waste,subgrade ROM and fines)through providing vegetative cover to control soil erosion and gully formation,consolidation of dump top and side surfaces,binding the loose particles through intricate roof system,*** paper overviews the roles of revegetation programme that can be used where vegetation is considered to be the long-term answer to slope protection and erosion *** revegetation processes like Coir matting,lemon grass,vetiver grass and indigenous plant may find a wide range of usage in iron ore mines for dump *** Miyawaki method of plantation is more effective than the conventional method of *** will lead to co-existence of plants,and as a matter of fact each plant draws from the other vital nutrients and they grow to become strong and *** Miyawaki plantation technique aims at“survival of the fittest”,and the area which undergone such plantation has an ecology of their *** indigenous plant has good binding capacity and helps to control soil erosion as well as improve the dump *** indigenous plant species include Shorea robusta(Sal),Dalbergia sisoo(Shisham),Karanj and Azadirachta(Neem).The growth of indigenous plants is dependent upon the soil quality as well as the organic matter of the dump *** leaf debris plays an important role for improving the organic matter of the dump material to successfully implement the revegetation programme.

Robust image processing algorithm for computational resource limited smart apple sunburn sensing system

Heat and light stress causes sunburn to the maturing apple fruits and results in crop production and quality ***,when the fruit surface temperature(FST)rises above critical limits for a prolonged duration,the fruit may suffer several physiological disorders including *** manage apple sunburn,monitoring FST is critical and our group at Washington State University is developing a noncontact smart sensing system that integrates thermal infrared and visible imaging sensors for real time FST *** system needs to perform in-field imagery data analysis onboard a single board computer with processing unit that has limited computational ***,key objective of this study was to develop a novel image processing algorithm optimized to use available resources of a single board *** logic flow includes color space transformation,k-means++classification and morphological operators prior to fruit segmentation and FST *** developed algorithm demonstrated the segmentation accuracy of 57.78%(missing error=12.09%and segmentation error=0.13%).This aided successful apple FST estimation that was 10–18C warmer than ambient air ***,algorithm reduced the imagery data processing time cost of the smart sensing systemfrom 87 s to 44 s using image compression approach.

Purpose–Forecasting of stock indices is a challenging issue because stock data are dynamic,non-linear and uncertain in *** of an accurate forecasting model is very much essential to predict the next-day closing prices of the stock *** purpose of this paper is to develop an efficient and accurate forecasting model to predict the next-day closing prices of seven stock ***/methodology/approach–A novel strategy called quasi-oppositional symbiotic organisms search-based extreme learning machine(QSOS-ELM)is proposed to forecast the next-day closing prices *** in the prediction of closing price depends on output weights which are dependent on input weights and *** paper mainly deals with the optimal design of input weights and biases of the ELM prediction model using QSOS and SOS optimization ***–Simulation is carried out on seven stock indices,and performance analysis of QSOS-ELM and SOS-ELM prediction models is done by taking various statistical measures such as mean square error,mean absolute percentage error,accuracy and paired sample *** performance analysis reveals that the QSOS-ELM model outperforms the SOS-ELM model in predicting the next-day closing prices more accurately for all the seven stock indices under ***/value–The QSOS-ELM prediction model and SOS-ELM are developed for the first time to predict the next-day closing prices of various stock *** paired t-test is also carried out for the first time in literature to hypothetically prove that there is a zero mean difference between the predicted and actual closing prices.

这篇文章致力于研究新型改进的调制方案,包括索引调制下的正交频分复用技术,扩频技术以及同相正交技术,用以提高误码率的性能和频谱效率。首先,我们定义一个新的系统模型,叫做基于索引调制和扩频的正交频分复用技术。这一技术是一种新近提出的方案,它的原理是在信号发送之前,从一个扩频码域集中选出多个扩频码,用来传输额外信息比特(以索引的形式)。我们把基于索引调制和扩频的正交频分复用技术和基于同相正交索引调制的正交频分复用技术相结合,通过把待调制的符号分为同相域和正交域两部分,可以实现两倍于传统的基于索引的正交频分复用方案的索引比特。因此,我们所提出的新型的调制方案被称为基于同相正交的索引调制和扩频下的正交频分复用技术。它首先把待调制符号分为同相和正交两部分,然后通过索引比特去选择相对应的扩频码去独立地传输已调制符号的同相和正交部分。本文针对所提方案的频谱效率和误码率作了详细的分析。此外,我们将结果和之前的调制方案做了比较,尤其是基于索引调制和扩频的正交频分复用技术。同时,为了减少系统的复杂度,在接收端,我们提出了一种低复杂度的检测方法,它的性能和传统的最大似然估计方法是一致的。实验结果表明,相较于基于索引调制和扩频的正交频分复用技术,我们所提出的基于同相正交的索引调制和扩频下的正交频分复用技术获得了更好的误码率性能,同时也实现了更高的分集增益。通过计算机仿真软件MATLAB所得到的结果验证了我们所提方案的有效性。

Hybrid IWD-DE:A Novel Approach to Model Cooperative Navigation Planning for Multi-robot in Unknown Dynamic Environment

The current study emphasizes inadequacies of earlier research findings on multi-robot navigation and offers a robust approach to guide the robots in an unknown dynamic *** attain the objective,the Intelligent Water Drop(IWD)algorithm is combined with Differential Evolution(DE)in a new conceptual fashion to optimize the navigation path of multiple mobile *** hybrid IWD-DE,basic IWD and DE algorithms are then explored for multi-robot navigation in a dynamic workspace through *** simulation outcomes demonstrate the competency of the proposed method to guide the robot in predicting the nature of the obstacle and to generate an optimal and safe trajectory in a dynamic *** potency of the proposed algorithm is further validated through experimentation with fire bird robot in a real *** outcomes of the simulation and experimentation,by employing IWD-DE algorithm are compared with those of basic IWD and DE *** error estimated for Average Navigation Path Travelled(ANPT),Aggregate Navigation Path Deviation(ANPD)and number of turns between simulation and experimental results by employing IWD-DE is 8.96,9.09,and 11.13,respectively while reaching 16.43,28.61,29.15 for IWD,and 6.66,10.20,14.28 for *** efficiency of the proposed approach is further verified with the state-of-the-art in a dynamic *** outcomes reveal the efficiency and flexibility of the proposed approach in resolving the multi-robot navigation problem as compared to the state-of-the-art in a dynamic workspace.
