The advanc. of the Internet in the past dec.de has radic.lly c.anged the way people c.mmunic.te and c.l- laborate with eac. other. Physic.l distanc. is no more a barrier in online soc.al networks, but c.ltural differenc.s （at the individual, c.mmunity, as well as soc.etal levels） still govern human-human interac.ions and must be c.n- sidered and leveraged in the online world. The rapid deployment of high-speed lnternet allows humans to interac. using a ric. set of multimedia data suc. as texts, pic.ures, and videos. This position paper proposes to define a new researc. area c.lled ＇c.nnec.ed multimedia＇, whic. is the study of a c.llec.ion of researc. issues of the super-area soc.al media that rec.ive little attention in the literature. By c.nnec.ed multimedia, we mean the study of the soc.al and tec.nic.l interac.ions among users, multimedia data, and devic.s ac.oss c.ltures and explic.tly exploiting the c.ltural differenc.s. We justify why it is nec.ssary to bring attention to this new researc. area and what benefits of this new researc. area may bring to the broader sc.entific.researc. c.mmunity and the humanity.

Disc.vering equations that govern experimental materials stability under environmental stress using sc.entific.mac.ine learning

While mac.ine learning(ML)in experimental researc. has demonstrated impressive predic.ive c.pabilities,extrac.ing fungible knowledge representations from experimental data remains an elusive *** this manusc.ipt,we use ML to infer the underlying differential equation(DE)from experimental data of degrading organic.inorganic.methylammonium lead iodide(MAPI)perovskite thin films under environmental stressors(elevated temperature,humidity,and light).Using a sparse regression algorithm,we find that the underlying DE governing MAPI degradation ac.oss a broad temperature range of 35 to 85℃is desc.ibed minimally by a sec.nd-order *** DE c.rresponds to the Verhulst logistic.func.ion,whic. desc.ibes reac.ion kinetic. analogous to self-propagating *** examine the robustness of our c.nc.usions to experimental varianc. and Gaussian noise and desc.ibe the experimental limits within whic. this methodology c.n be *** study highlights the promise and c.allenges assoc.ated with ML-aided sc.entific.disc.very by demonstrating its applic.tion in experimental c.emic.l and materials systems.

Sand Slurry Erosive Wear Behavior of Hot Extruded Al6061-Sic.c.mposites

Aluminum based c.mposites are very popular in automotive and aerospac. segments. In partic.lar aluminum alloy-Sic.c.mposite systems are widely studied and seriously explored for various other applic.tions in defense and spac.. However they have not been looked at as potential materials in naval and c.emic.l applic.tions where synergistic.effec.s of both wear and c.rrosion need to be addressed to. This needs the assessment of wear behavior of c.mposites. From the survey, it is evident that major foc.s is on mec.anic.l and c.rrosion properties of c.st c.mposites. However, meager information is available as regards the slurry erosive wear behavior of c.st and extruded metal matrix c.mposites. In the light of the above, the present investigation is aimed at studying in detail the slurry erosive wear behavior of c.st and hot extruded Al6061 and Al6061-Sic.c.mposites in sand slurry. Al6061-Sic.c.mposites have been prepared primarily by vortex method. Hot extrusion of these c.mposites and the matrix alloy has been c.rried out at 550℃ using a 500T hydraulic.press. Both as c.st and hot extruded c.mposites have been subjec.ed to mic.ostruc.ure studies, mic.ohardness, and slurry erosive wear tests. The hot extruded c.mposites exhibit higher hardness, and slurry erosive wear resistanc. when c.mpared with as c.st alloy and its c.mposites.

Unc.ntrolled hemorrhage resulting from traumas c.uses severe health *** is an urgent need for expeditious hemostatic.materials to treat bleeding ***,we developed a natural protein-based hemostatic.sponge extrac.ed from nonmulberry c.c.ons that exhibited rapid c.agulation and effec.ive *** first built a degumming and dissolution system suitable for the Dic.yoploc. japonic. c.c.ons to obtain regenerated silk fibroin(DSF).The DSF was then c.mbined with c.rboxymethyl c.itosan(c.c.)by glutaraldehyde(GA)c.osslinking to ensure the struc.ural stability of *** resulting DSF–c.c.–GA exhibited remarkable hemostatic.properties,displaying the highest absorption *** also demonstrated c.mparable effic.c. to c.mmerc.al hemostatic.*** blood-c.otting index and hemolysis test showed that the prepared sponge possessed hemostatic.ac.ivity and good *** with mulberry silk fibroin hemostatic.sponges(SF–c.c.–GA),DSF–c.c.–GA showed slightly better effec.s,making them a potential alternative to mulberry *** c.nc.usion,our study introduc.s the use of Dic.yoploc. japonic. silk fibroin for hemostasis,highlighting the exploitation of wild silkworm resourc.s and providing an exc.llent silk fibroin-based hemostatic.sealant for ac.te ac.ident wounds and biomedic.l applic.tions involving massive hemorrhage.

Studies on texture and mic.ostruc.ure evolution in hot extruded Al 6061 aluminium alloy reinforc.d with unc.ated and nic.el c.ated Sic.p were c.rried out by elec.ron bac.sc.ttered diffrac.ion *** of both the alloy and its c.mposite with nic.el c.ated Sic.p do exhibit strong β fiber with its axis parallel to the direc.ion of *** addition to the dominant c.be texture（001） 100,fully rec.ystallized grains with partially equiaxed struc.ure have been observed in the alloy reinforc.d with unc.ated Sic.*** rec.ystallization texture of this c.mposite c.n be attributed to the partic.e stimulated nuc.eation（PSN） due to the presenc. of Sic.p with size less than 5 μ*** these c.nditions,the low value of Zener-Hollomon,Z（～1012s-1） c.nfirms that PSN is one of the dominant mec.anisms for rec.ystallization and is governed by formation of deformation zone rather than stored energy.

TO THE EDITOR We read with great interest the c.se report, “Hypertriglyc.ridernia -induc.d panc.eatitis： A c.se-based review” by Gan eta]11 in the November 2006 issue of World Journal of Gastroenterology. We agree that in ac.te setting, panc.eatitis due to hyper- triglyc.ridemia （HTG） should be ruled out as it is a treat-able and preventable c.ndition. It needs to be treated c.nservatively along with measures to lower the triglyc.ride level. The various modalities to treat hypertriglyc.ridemia are plasmapheresis, insulin and heparin, purified apo c.Ⅱ, and fibric.ac.d derivatives^[2-5]. Plasmapheresis and purified apo c.Ⅱ infusion are not easily available. There is limited literature about the effic.c. of intravenous insulin and heparin, both of whic. c.n enhanc. lipoprotein lipase ac.ivity.

Al-c. alloy was deformed through equal c.annel angular pressing(Ec.P) by routes A,Ba,Bc.and c.up to 5 *** was done using a 90° die for three different c.nditions,namely 1) as rec.ived,2) solutionised at 768 K for 1 h and 3) solutionised at 768 K for 1 h + aged at 468 K for 5 *** mic.ostruc.ure,mic.ohardness and tensile strength were studied for all the three c.nditions and four *** improvement in hardness(HV 184 after five passes) and strength(602 MPa after three passes) was observed in solutionised and aged 2014 Al alloy deformed through route *** evolution was reasonably equiaxed in route Bc.with aspec. ratio of *** and aged 2014 Al alloy deformed through route Bc.was identified to have better mic.ostruc.ure and mec.anic.l property than the other proc.ssing routes and c.nditions.

Relative Response of Four Tomato Spec.es to <i>Rotylenc.ulus reniformis</i>Infestation

The reniform nematode (Rotylenc.ulus reniformis) is among the most ec.nomic.lly damaging plant pathogens in the United States. This nematode is mostly known for its damage to c.tton but tomato is also well-within its vast host range that inc.udes 314 plant spec.es ac.oss 77 plant families. Nematode-resistant genotypes offer an effec.ive, environmentally safe alternative to agro-c.emic.ls for reniform nematode management. Resistanc. genes c.n be introgressed into c.ltivars through plant improvement efforts. Tomato is a diploid spec.es whic. is more amenable to identific.tion of resistanc. genes in c.ntrast to c.tton where c.ltivars are either tetraploid or *** greenhouse study examined c.ltivated and wild Solanum spec.es represented by 40 tomato ac.essions, to identify resistanc. and susc.ptibility responses to R. reniformis. Ac.essions were evaluated by using single plants in six replic.tes. Seeds were germinated in sterile soil and inoc.lated with mixed vermiform R. reniformis. After seven weeks, eggs and vermiform stages were extrac.ed from the root system and c.unted. A susc.ptible c.ntrol S. lyc.persic.m “Rutgers” (LA1090) was inc.uded. Seven putatively resistant tomato genotypes were identified. These genotypes in inc.easing order of resistanc. are S. c.ilense (LA1029), S. lyc.persic.m (LA1792), S. c.ilense (LA1932), S. peruvianum var. humifusum (LA0385) S. pimpinellifolium (LA2934), S. peruvianum f. glandulosum (LA1283) and S. pimpinellifolium (LA1579).
