Oral administration of metanil yellow (MY) at 3.0% (w/w) dose level to adult male albino rats maintained on low protein (LP) diet for 30 days resulted in a greater decrease in absolute and relative weights of testes than in those rats maintained on a normal protein (NP)diet. A marked decrease in the activities of lactate dehydrogenase and hyaluronidase and content of lactic acid in LP + MY fed animals suggested that low protein diet enhenced the vulnerability of germ cells towards metanil yellow. The lack of significant changes in the cholesterol content of testis, the fructose content of the coagulating glands and the dorsolateral prostate,the activities of aIkaline phosphatase in the seminal vesicle, and acid phosphatase in ventral prostate of the MY treated animals suggested that their androgenic status were not affected.

An Appraisal of Sexual Behaviors, STI/HIV Prevalence, and HIV Prevention Programs among Truckers in India: A Critical Literature Review

Currently the International Frequency Registration Board of the International Telecommunications Union, that is responsible for ensuring the coordinated usage of the Radio Frequency Spectrum,follows a three tier procedure towards registering the internationally coordinated Geo-stationary Satellite Orbit(GSO) *** first step is Advance Publication of Information,the second is Inter System Coordination and the last one is Notification for Registration in the Master Frequency *** method employed for examination of interference potential at the first stage is the increase in Equivalent Satellite Link Noise Temperature and for the second stage there are a variety of methods depending on the transmission carrier type as to whether it is analog or digital, whether one is considering FSSAelephony or BSS/television transmissions and also whether one is computing if or baseband interference. The prevailing procedures for coordinating a proposed GSO system are complex in *** recognition of this ITU has established a Voluntary Group of Experts to simplify the Radio *** various involved methods of interference calculations,that have made the whole exercise of intersystem frequency coordination for GSO systems appear,complicated also need to be *** the advances in modulation technology and earth station miniaturization are driving the satellite services to a common General Satellite Services(GSS).One common interference calculation method would certainly be a big step towards the intended simplification. This paper first presents an analysis that relates the single entry interference to a parameter called Satellite Link Isolation that can be computed from major system parameters of the two satellite *** paper then establishes the workability of the associated proposal to determine the electromagnetic compatibility of any two GSO systems.

Background: A systematic review portraying the changing pattern of sexual behaviors, STI and HIV prevalence and key strategies curb HIV and STI among truckers in India is lacking. This paper therefore aims to present a chronological review of literature regarding sexual behaviors, STI/HIV prevalence, and various HIV prevention programs implemented among truckers in India. Methodology: Published and unpublished studies (1990-2011) were identified through electronic databases, and hand searching. Results: Most studies on sexual behaviors and STI/HIV prevalence among truckers focused only on drivers and ignored their helpers. Evidences suggest that consistent condom use by truckers with both paid and non-paid female partners has increased during the past decade. Many recent studies suggest that the HIV prevalence among truckers is about 2% and it has been declining slowly during the past decade. The HIV prevention programs among truckers which started with the aim of raising awareness about HIV during early 1990s, have grown multi-folds to encompass not only the standard strategies like mid-media events, interpersonal counselling and STI care for HIV prevention, but also innovations such as the use of business franchisee models, and integrated research and evidence based planning in the program. The possibilities of using new approaches such as male circumcision and the use of pre-exposure prophylaxes are underway. Conclusion: More studies are needed to explore helpers’ vulnerabilities to HIV. Very few studies have attempted to examine the impact of large-scale prevention programs among truckers. Efforts are required to examine the impact of different components of such programs to guide the HIV prevention efforts among truckers in India.

This paper examines whether truckers have been over-stigmatized as HIV carriers in the country. Data were taken from cross-sectional surveys of clients of female sex workers conducted in 2006-2007 in 12 districts of the country. A total 4822 clients of female sex workers were covered in the survey. Low-income skilled/semi-skilled men, including non-agricultural/casual labor, and petty businessmen/small shop owners, have the largest share in the clients’ population. There was no significant difference between truckers and other sub-group of clients’ population in terms of consistent condom use with female sex workers and prevalence of HIV or STI. These evidences suggest that the contribution of truckers in HIV epidemic in India might to similar to other sub-groups of clients’ population. Thus, truckers might have been over-stigmatized as HIV carriers in the country. However, there is no doubt that truckers constitute an extremely important target group for the HIV prevention programs and these efforts must be continued to prevent new HIV infections in the country.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the top 10 causes of death worldwide. India is still the highest TB burden country. There is a scarcity of data on TB knowledge from Rajasthan state of India. Objective: The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of knowledge about TB and services of TB control programme and to determine its correlates among rural population of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Methods: Cross-sectional community based study was carried out at Model Rural Health Research Unit, Jaipur, a unit of Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Results: Study reports the result from 1993 adult participants from 10 villages of 2 sub-districts of district Jaipur. About 88.9% of studied participants knew that TB is an infectious disease and it spreads from TB patient to healthy person in close contact. Only 22.3% of participants knew “DOTS is the treatment for TB”. While, only 58.9% knew “sputum is used for diagnosis of TB” at health centers. Scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and backward classes social groups knew less than the mainstream “General” social group. The observed difference was statistically significant (p 0.05). Logistic regression analysis estimated the relative contribution to knowledge status. Conclusion: The knowledge of study participants on transmission of tuberculosis was similar to knowledge of population in country wide study. They poorly knew sputum is used for diagnosing tuberculosis disease;socio-demographic inequity exists in this knowledge too. People from older age groups, underprivileged social groups and minority need extra educational activities.

Tuberculosis is one among top 10 causes of deaths worldwide. Access to effective diagnosis by every TB patient is one among five missions of Global Plan. Active case finding among vulnerable groups has been the key focus area of National Strategic Plan to control TB in India 2017-25. This cross-sectional study was carried out to find out the additional open cases of TB through active screening of general & rural population in selected villages of Jaipur, the capital district in Rajasthan state of India. An active screening team of trained staff visited each house-hold in selected study villages for interviewing the head of house-hold or other adult member available at the time of visit. Family members of age ≥ 15 years were screened for complain of chronic cough of duration 2 weeks or more with study questionnaire. Presumptive cases found at screening were referred for seeking medical consultations from nearest designated microscopy centre. The referred patients were followed up on telephone up to five times for results of medical consultancies. Laboratory technicians of catchment DMCs were also followed up for verification of results. Total 19,306 individuals were covered. Study included 52.8% male, 69.3% ≥ 15 years age, and 99.3% Hindu participants. There were total 153 presumptive TB patients. Out of these, total 10 cases were confirmed as TB. The yield of detection was 0.51 cases/1000 population screened. Background Presence of obsessive-compulsive symptoms(0CS)affects performance on tests of some cognitive functions,such as the trail making test(TMT),and may affect the level of disability in schizophrenia(SZ).Aim s The aim of the present study was to compare performance on TMT and disability on WHO Disability Assessment Schedule(WHODAS)in persons with SZ with and without 0CS in a cross-sectional *** Persons with SZ(n=200)fulfilling DSM-V(Diagnostic and Statistical Manual)diagnostic criteria were assessed on Yale Brown Obsessive Compulsive Scale(YB0CS)and divided into two groups based on presence or absence of *** and WHODAS V.2.0 were *** two groups as a whole,as well as a subsample matched on age,gender and age of onset were *** Out of 200 persons with SZ,37(18.5%)reported *** OCS group took a significantly longer mean time to complete TMT-A(Z=-3.02,p=0.003)as well as TMT-B(Z=-3.551,p<0.001).Significant correlations were found between TMT-A and total YB0CS Scores(r=0.351,p=0.033),as well as TMT-A and YB0CS compulsion scores(r=0.404,p=0.013)but not with TMT-B *** OCS group reported greater disability in all domains separately as well as on average WHODAS Scores(Z=-5.969,p<0.001).Significant correlations were found between YB0CS obsession scores and YBOCS total scores with average WHODAS Scores(r=0.614,p<0.001 and r=0.406,p=0.013,respectively).We obtained essentially similar results with the matched subsample as well as with the entire *** Persons with SZ and comorbid OCS had significantly poorer performance on TMTs and greater disability in comparison to persons with SZ *** of disability correlated with severity of OCS.
