The foremost Global Positioning System(GPS) derived measurements in the Kumaun Himalaya indicate that most of the crustal motion of the Indian plate is accommodating towards the base as well as on the hanging wall of Main Central Thrust(MCT).Deformation pattern within the Kumaun Himalaya varies from south to north and indicates maximum deformation rate near *** study,based on the campaign mode GPS survey during 2003- 2006,reveals that the area between north of North Almora Thrust(NAT) and at the base of Great Himalaya registers maximum strain rate,which is lowered towards the Trans Himadri Fault(THF).The GAMIT-GLOBK processed campaign data of the area show that currently,the Himalayan Frontal Fault(HFF) and Main Boundary Thrust(MBT) are locked with the Indian plate,and a 6.7 ± 2.5 mm/yr of horizontal shortening is taking place between the Lesser Himalaya and Peninsular India.

Objective:Despite conflicting evidence,it is common practice to use continuous antibiotic prophylaxis(CAP)in patients with indwelling double-J(DJ)*** extracts and d-mannose have been shown to prevent colonization of the urinary *** evaluated their role in this ***:We conducted a prospective randomized study to evaluate patients with indwelling DJ stents following urological *** were randomized into three *** A(n=46)received CAP(nitrofurantoin 100 mg once daily[OD]).Group B(n=48)received cranberry extract 300 mg and d-mannose 600 mg twice daily(BD).Group C(n=40)received no *** stents were removed between 15 days and 45 days after *** groups were compared in terms of colonization of stent and urine,stent related symptoms and febrile urinary tract infections(UTIs)during the period of indwelling stent and until 1 week after ***:In Group A,9(19.5%)patients had significant bacterial growth on the *** was 8(16.7%)in the Group B and 5(12.5%)in Group C(p-value:0.743).However,the culture positivity rate of urine specimens showed a significant difference(p-value:0.023)with Group B showing least colonization of urine compared to groups A and *** was no statistically significant difference in the frequency of stent related symptoms(p-value:0.242)or febrile UTIs(p-value:0.399)among the ***:Prophylactic agents have no role in altering bacterial growth on temporary indwelling DJ stent,stent related symptoms or febrile *** extract may reduce the colonization of urinary tract,but its clinical significance needs further evaluation.

Hydrometeorological assessments and suspended sediment delivery from a central Himalayan glacier in the upper Ganga basin

Integrated hydrometeorological investigations are not frequently available at a regional scale over a longer time period, especially near the terminus of Indian Himalayan glaciers. An integrated approach to the collection of hydrological data has major advantages for understanding the runoff generation mechanisms at basin scale, particularly when coupled with meteorological observations. The current study involves time series analysis of hydrometeorological records collected near the terminus of the Chorabari Glacier, for four consecutive ablation seasons(June-Sept.) 2009-2012. The analysis shows that variation in rainfall was higher(c= 0.9) at the same elevation over proximal sites, while the intensity of extreme rainfall events was 121-160 mm/d. The diurnal temperature range(DTR) has a tendency to reduce over the ablation season because of the onset of the Indian Summer Monsoon(ISM) and then further increases during the ISM withdrawal indicating humid-temperate conditions. The peak discharge(Qpeak) was found to be higher during July and August. Snow and glacier melt contributed 76% of the total suspended sediment transport during peak ISM months(July and August) reflecting seasonal evolution of the hydrologic conduits. The results indicate that Karakoram and western Himalayan glaciers produce comparatively low sediment yield compared to central Himalayan glaciers. The hydrological variations are depicted through flow duration curves(FDC) for meltwater discharge and sediment load. The flow corresponding to Q, Q, and Q(where Qx is the discharge that is exceeded x percent of the time referred to as % dependability) are 4.2, 3.7, and 2.8 m~3/s; and the corresponding dependability for suspended sediment loads(SSLs) are 409.0, 266.0, and 157.2 t/d, respectively. The Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach has been successfully used in many hydrological studies especially the rainfall-runoff modeling using continuous data. The present study examines its applicability to model the event-based rainfall-runoff process. A case study has been done for Ajay river basin to develop event-based rainfall-runoff model for the basin to simulate the hourly runoff at Sarath gauging site. The results demonstrate that ANN models are able to provide a good representation of an event-based rainfall-runoff process. The two important parameters, when predicting a flood hydrograph, are the magnitude of the peak discharge and the time to peak discharge. The developed ANN models have been able to predict this information with great accuracy. This shows that ANNs can be very efficient in modeling an event-based rainfall-runoff process for determining the peak discharge and time to the peak discharge very accurately. This is important in water resources design and management applications, where peak discharge and time to peak discharge are important input

A rapid, sensitive, selective and validated reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography （RP-HPLC） method for the estimation of paclitaxel in micro-sample of rat plasma and in culture of cancer cells was per- formed in this study. The mobile phase consisted of an （80： 20： 0.1, v/v/v）. Column elution at a flow rate of 1 optimized mixture of methanol：water： trifluroacetic acid mL/minute with UV detection at 225 nm at room tern- perature was used. The RP-HPLC method was successfully applied for the determination of paclitaxel in plasma samples and in culture of cancer cells with nano-quantity of estimation. The validation studies were performed in accordance with the International Conference on Harmonization （ICH） guidelines. The intra- and inter-day pre- cision showed that the coefficients of variation ranged from 1.07% to 4.27% at different levels of concentrations. To the best of our knowledge, this study also reported for the first time the optimization of different solvents for effective extraction of paclitaxel wherein tert.-butyl methyl ether （TBME）： diethyl ether （DEE） in 50：50 v/ v composition was found most efficient with extraction efficiency ranging between 77.99% and 91.74% and be- tween 76.14 and 93.66% in the plasma and cell culture, respectively. This proposed method was successfully ap- plied to study the pharmacokinetics of paclitaxel and the influence of verapamil and all-trans retinoic acid （atRA） on paclitaxel pharmacokinetics in rat models. This proposed method might emerge as a valuable aid in the labo- ratory monitoring of paclitaxel in a variety of in vitro as well as in vivo scenarios.

Optical and structural properties of highly porous shell structured Fe doped TiO_2 thin films

TiO2thin films with 0.2 wt%, 0.4 wt%, 0.6wt%, and 0.8 wt% Fe were prepared on glass and silicon substrates using sol–gel spin coating technique. The optical cut-off points are increasingly red-shifted and the absorption edge is shifted over the higher wavelength region with Fe content increasing. As Fe content increases, the optical band gap decreases from 3.03 to 2.48 eV whereas the tail width increases from 0.26 to 1.43 eV. The X-ray diffraction（XRD） patterns for doped films at 0.2 wt% and0.8 wt% Fe reveal no characteristic peaks, indicating that the film is amorphous whereas undoped TiO2exhibits（101） orientation with anatase phase. Thin films of higher Fe content exhibit a homogeneous, uniform, and nanostructured highly porous shell morphology.

Encoding information using the topological charge of vortex beams has been proposed for optical communications. The conservation of the topological charge on propagation and the detection of the topological charge by a receiver are significant in these applications and have been well established in free-space. However, when vortex beams enter a diffuser,the wavefront is distorted, leading to a challenge in the conservation and detection of the topological charge. Here, we present a technique to measure the value of the topological charge of a vortex beam obscured in the randomly scattered light. The results of the numerical simulations and experiments are presented and are in good agreement. In particular, only a single-shot measurement is required to detect the topological charge of vortex beams, indicating that the method is applicable to a dynamic diffuser.
