Toward understanding the role of p53 in cardiovascular diseases

Tumour suppressor protein 53 (TP53 or simply p53) is a well known protein linked to apoptosis, cell signalling, cascading and several myriad functions in cells. Many diseases are linked to p53 though analysis show only 216 interaction partners. Whether p53 plays an important role in cardiovascular diseases (CVD) remains uncertain. Through this bioinformatical analysis, we propose that p53 might play a major role in CVD whilst being linked to Hypoxia and Lupus. There could be evidence by pull down assay studies. Whether its interactants play a role in CVD remains to be studied using experiments, though the interaction maps show possible affect on other diseases.

The nature and extent of genetic diversity were assessed among 23 parents of pigeonpea hybrids employing Mahalanobis D2 statistics. Based on relative magnitude of D2, the genotypes were grouped into five different non-overlapping clusters. Cluster III, having 8 genotypes, emerged with highest number of entries;cluster I, II and V were constituted by four genotypes each while cluster IV, comprising three genotypes, had least number of entries. The highest contribution in manifestation of genetic divergence was exhibited by 100-seed weight followed by pods per plant, days to maturity, harvest index, biological yield per plant, days to 50% flowering and seed yield per plant. The maximum intra-cluster distance was observed for cluster III, followed by cluster IV, cluster I and cluster V. The highest inter-cluster distance was recorded between cluster II and IV followed by cluster I and IV and cluster V and II. The crossing between entries belonging to cluster pairs having large inter-cluster distance and possessing high cluster means for one or other characters to be improved may be recommended for isolating desirable recombinants in the segregating generations in pigeonpea. Considering the mean performance for different characters of genotypes belonging to diverse clusters, the promising genotypes identified were NDA 2, NDA 7-11, IPA 208 and NDA 5-14 of cluster I;NDA 3-3, NDA 98-6, Amar and NDACMS 1-3A of cluster II;NDACMS 1-4A, NDACMS 1-6A and ICP 870 of cluster IV and NDA 96-6, ICP 2155, NDA 8-6 and NDAGC 1010 of cluster V for exploitation as parents in hybridization programme for development of superior pigeonpea hybrid cultivars.

Intestinal loop stoma is a common surgical procedure performed for various benign and malignant abdominal problems,but it rarely undergoes spontaneous closure,without surgical *** male patients presented to our emergency surgical department with acute abdominal *** of them was diagnosed as having rectosigmoid perforation and underwent diversion sigmoid loop colostomy after primary closure of the *** other was a known case of carcinoma of the rectum who had already undergone low anterior resection with covering loop ileostomy;the patient underwent second loop ileostomy,this time for complicated intestinal *** our surprise,both the loop colostomy and ileostomy closed spontaneously at 8 weeks and 6 weeks,respectively,without any *** stoma closure is a rare and interesting *** exact etiology for spontaneous closure remains unknown,but it may be hypothesized to result from slow retraction of the stoma,added to the concept of a tendency towards spontaneous closure of enterocutaneous fistula.

印度小圆胸小蠹的一种新寄主植物(英文)

自然条件下印度小圆胸小蠹Euwallacea fornicatus(Eichhoff,1868)在茶树枝条虫瘿内取食,是茶的重要害虫之一,以茶蛀虫著称。2010年5-8月,在印度MugaEri研究中心3号农场(Lahdoigarh,Jorhat-Assam)的黄心树Persea bombycina Kost.(樟科)种植园中发现该虫有自然分布,且已对黄心树造成了明显的危害。黄心树为小圆胸小蠹一种新纪录的寄主植物。本文对小圆胸小蠹的寄主范围、分布、生物学和生活史等进行了讨论。

Clinico-bacteriological study was done in 51 leprosy patients below 14 years of age. Majority of the patients were males in the age group of 11-14 years. Nearly 84% had not received any prior treatment because of lack of awareness and financial constraints. Only 11.76% had a positive contact history. Skin lesions were present in all cases and 84.3% had lesions mainly on the exposed areas of the body and their number was found to increase significantly with advancing age (p < 0.005). These lesions were hypo-pigmented patches in 88% cases. 88% of cases had hypo-anesthesia and nerve thickening was observed in 24% cases. The most common type of skin lesion was borderline tuberculoid (BT) in 53% cases. Positivity of the skin smears increased significantly as the number of the skin lesions per patient increased (p 0.001). Multibacillary cases were seen in 15.6% of cases and found only in the age group of 10-14 years of age. No statistically significant association between BCG vaccination and prevention of leprosy was seen.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of cooling of whole blood samples without an anticoagulant and glucose preservative on glucose and other commonly measured clinical analytes by serial measurements over a three hour period. Methods: Thirty healthy adult volunteers about 20-50 years old,from Kasturba Medical College,Manipal (2008) were the participants. After obtaining informed consent from each participant,blood was collected (2 mL each) in three vacutainers-one without the use of an anticoagulant and glucose preservative,one with sodium fluoride-potassium oxalate and the other with disodium ethylene diamine tetraacetic (EDTA). Automatic analyzer Hitachi was used to measure glucose and other common clinical laboratory analytes,every hour for three hours. Results: The refrigerated samples without an anticoagulant and preservative,showed slightly lower values of glucose as compared to fluorinated samples but difference between these groups was not statistically significant (P value> 0.05).Also cooling had no effect on other analytes except ***: Fluoride preservative as a regular practice for glucose samples can be avoided if the samples can be processed quickly as fluoriated samples also show a marginal fall in glucose values.

GPS measured static and kinematic offsets at near and far field of the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake

The Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake that hit the mainland Japan on 11 th March, 2011 had resulted a devastating Tsunami due to an active thrusting between the Pacific and the North American Plates. Static and kinematic offsets at the offshore epicentre of the Mw 9.0 event remain unanswered and being investigated along with their near and far field limiting distances from the epicentre. Accordingly, offset measurements from 60 continuously operating IGS and GEONET GNSS stations were radially classified from the epicentre and interpreted with analytical models to find their linear offset decay rates. Co-and post-seismic static positional anomaly offsets of sixty days show almost all near field stations had strong or appreciable eastward or south eastward static shifts. Near stations(1.5 m. Spatial models of projected N-S static and kinematic offsets show their asymmetrical distributions around the epicentre with maximum model offset of-1.84 m displaced towards south at-45 km north of the epicentre. The Tohoku-Oki earthquake produced a resultant kinematic offset of-10.2 m towards East at its offshore epicentre;while the estimated near field static offset is ~9.82 m. However, both estimates are bigger than double the resultant offset measured value(~4.3 m) in the Japanese mainland using GPS. The difference in the kinematic and static near field offsets highlight that the near surface had elastic or in-elastic kinematic strain dissipation as against the lithospheric level viscoelastic static response, which resulted rapid kinematic strain release(1.12 cm/km)within the limiting radius of ~220 km from the Tohoku-Oki epicentr

Solution of the Generalized Abel Integral Equation by Using Almost Bernstein Operational Matrix

A direct almost Bernstein operational matrix of integration is used to propose a stable algorithm for numerical inversion of the generalized Abel integral equation. The applicability of the earlier proposed methods was restricted to the numerical inversion of a part of the generalized Abel integral equation. The method is quite accurate and stable as illustrated by applying it to intensity data with and without random noise to invert and compare it with the known analytical inverse. Thus it is a good method for applying to experimental intensities distorted by noise.
