Background： Nowadays pediatr.c.femoral fr.c.ures are more commonly managed with operative treatment rather than conservative treatment because of more rapid r.c.very and avoidance of prolonged immobilization. children between the ages of 5-13 years are treated either by tr.c.ion plus hip spica and flexible/elastic stable retrograde intramedullary nail, or external fixators in the case of open fr.c.ures. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcome of pediatr.c.femoral shaft fr.c.ures treated by stainless steel flexible intramedullary nail in children between 5 and 13 years of age. Methods： There were 32 cases of femoral shaft fr.c.ures which were all fixed with stainless steel flexible intramedullary nail under fluoroscopy. Long leg cast was applied at the time of fixation. Partial weight bearing was started 2 weeks after surgery. Patients were evaluated in follow-up study to observe the alignment of fr.c.ure, infection, delayed union, nonunion, limb length discrepancy, motion of knee joint, and time to unite the fr.c.ure. results： We were able to follow up 28 out of 32 patients. The patients were 8.14 years of age on average. The mean hospital stay after operation was 4 days and fr.c.ure union time was 9.57 weeks. There were 3 cases of varus angulation, 2 cases of anterior angulation, and 4 cases of limb lengthening. conclusion： Patients aged between 5 and 13 years treated with flexible intramedullary nail for.c.osed femoral shaft fr.c.ure have rapid union and r.c.very, short rehabilitation period, less immobilization and psychological impact, and cost-effective.

The c-field cosmological model based on the Hoyle-Narlikar theory with variable gravitational constant G is investigated. To obtain the deterministic value of c=dc/dt we present certain constant values for integration constants. The creation field is proportional to time. G and p （density） decrease with time and the universe represents an expanding universe. The creation field increases as time increases. We find c=√1/2πf t where f〉0,Thus c=1 when f=1/2π〉0.

Fr.c.ure dislocation of the navicular bone~ fr.c.ure of the cuboid, cuneiform, and longitudinal split fr.c.ure of the lateral malleolus is a rare combination of fr.c.ures. This is a high velocity injury fr.c.ure and can be caused by forcible plantar flexion and inversion of the foot at the time of impact onto the ground. Here we reported such a case in a 35-year-old male patient who was treated by open reduction and fixation with a partially threaded screw and two K-wires for the navicular bone,and two interfragmentary screws with a one third tubular plate for the lateral malleolus. K-wires were removed 6 weeks after surgery followed by partial weight bearing. After 6 months, the patient can walk normally with minimal pain and swelling of the foot.

Natural fibers can play a major role in composite industry due to its renewable, biodegradable, and eco-friendly properties. Ar.c. Fruit Husk （AFH） is r.c. in fiber, but is wasted in large quantity from tobacco industries. comprehensive char.c.erization of AFH fiber is done to examine its morphological, physical, mechanical, chemical and thermal properties. High cellulose content of the fiber （57.35 wt%） provides better tensile strength （231.66 MPa） whereas the porous surface morphology （40.8 %） ensures better bonding with the matrix. Moreover, the low density of the fiber （0.78 ***^-3） makes it an attr.c.ive alternative for hazardous synthetic fibers. The semi-crystalline nature and large crystalline size of the fiber reduce the water absorption char- acteristics. The thermo gravimetr.c.analysis confirms its stability up to 240℃, which is higher than the polymerization tem- perature. The results confirm the potential of AFH fibers as a reinforcement in bio-reinforced polymer.c.mposites for automo- tive and str.c.ural applications.

Good quality crystals of calcium p-nitrophenolate （NPca） were grown from saturated solution by slow evaporation method. The crystal str.c.ure analysis and the molecular arrangement of these crystals were determined using X-ray diffr.c.ion （XrD）. From Single crystal XrD studies, NPca is found to be crystallized in the mon- oclinic system with a space group P21/n. The functional groups of the material were confirmed qualitatively by F-FIr （Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy） spectral analysis. Optical absorption studies reveal the absorption region and microhardness studies were carried out to confirm the mechanical behaviour of the crystals.

A 2000 Year Multi-Proxy Evidence of Natural/Anthropogenic Influence on climate from the Southwest coast of India

The last millennium climate r.c.nstr.c.ions are complex and limit our understanding of the mechanisms behind environmental and climate variability. We present multi-proxy centennial-scale r.c.rds from the cherai, southwest India. The last 2000 cal yr AD r.c.rd suggests a complex environmental condition that prevailed at the depositional site augmenting the role of natural as well as anthropogenic agents. Increased elemental variations and indices values indicate stronger weathering, presumably wetter.c.nditions and intense pr.c.pitation. Provenance studies suggest diverse sources and the main composition fall close to the charnockite and Gneissic composition. Multi-proxy data suggests that a shift towards wetter.c.imatic conditions, which occurred from 910 to 1230 cal yr AD. The core also r.c.rds a shift towards the drier.c.nditions that started around 1230 cal yr AD with a loss in vegetation diversity. The pollution load index values suggest that the overall study area falls in moderate contamination levels, which are also substantiated with the diatom data indicating human influence in the natural habitat during the deposition time. The present study reveals that the enhanced cd and As concentration is due to strong anthropogenic influence. We compared the multi-proxy r.c.rd with other.c.ntinental and marine palaeoclimatic r.c.rds to explore global and/or regional trends in climate variability during the last 2000 years.

A nonlinear optical single crystal of potassium pentaborate tetrahydrate （KB5O8·4H2O） has been grown from aqueous solution by using unidir.c.ional crystal growth method of Sankaranarayanan-ramasamy （Sr） with a due modification in the growth assembly. Potassium pentaborate crystal of 60 mm length and 10 mm diameter has been grown along （100） plane with a growth rate of 3 mm per day within a period of 20 days. The grown crystal was subjected to single crystal X-ray diffr.c.ion analysis to confirm that the crystal belongs to the orthorhombic system. Some fundamental data such as valance electron plasma energy, Penn gap, Fermi energy and electronic polarizability of the grown crystal were calculated. The presence of borate in the grown crystal was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared （FTIr） spectroscopy. The optical transmission property of the grown crystal was analyzed using ultra violet （UV） visible spectral analysis. Surface morphology of the growth plane was observed using scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The mechanical strength of the crystals was found out using Vickers microhardness test along the growth axis. Frequency dependent dielectr.c.constant of the grown crystal was studied for various temperatures along （100） plane.

By using various proximity potentials, the fusion barrier heights and positions are calculated for proton and helium induced reactions with targets in the mass range 51≤ A ≤130 and 12≤ A ≤233, respectively. The calculated fusion barriers are parameterized by using the relations rB^Par = aX1 ＋ b and VB^Par = cX2, where X1 and X2 are A2^1/3 and Z1Z2/rB^Par, respectively. The values of the constants a, b and c are different for different versions of proximity potentials. We find that the parameterized forms derived by using Proximity 1977 yield values closer to the empir.c.l data in proton as well as helium induced reactions and can be used further to estimate dir.c.ly the barrier parameters for the fusion reactions of proton and helium with any target.
