The.conce.t of re.rograde.control of nucle.r ge.e.e.pre.sion assume. the.ge.e.ation of signals inside.the.chloroplasts, which are.e.the. re.e.se. from or se.se. inside.of the.organe.le. In both case., downstre.m signaling path- ways le.d e.e.tually to a diffe.e.tial re.ulation of nucle.r ge.e.e.pre.sion and the.production of prote.ns re.uire. in the.chloroplast. This conce.t appe.rs re.sonable.as the.majority of the.ove. 3000 pre.icte. plastidial prote.ns are.e.code. by nucle.r ge.e.. He.ce. the.nucle.s ne.ds information on the.status of the.chloroplasts, such as during acclimation re.ponse., which trigge. massive.change. in the.prote.n composition of the.thylakoid me.brane.and in the.stroma. He.e. we.propose.an additional control me.hanism of nucle.r- and plastome.e.code. photosynthe.is ge.e., taking advantage.of pathways involve. in sugar- or hormonal signaling. Sugars are.major e.d products of photosynthe.is and the.r con- te.ts re.pond ve.y se.sitive.y to change. in light inte.sitie.. Base. on re.e.t findings, we.ask the.que.tion as to whe.he. the.carbohydrate.status outside.the.chloroplast can be.dire.tly se.se. within the.chloroplast stroma. Sugars might syn- chronize.the.re.ponsive.e.s of both ge.ome. and the.e.y he.p to coordinate.the.e.pre.sion of piastome. and nucle.r- e.code. photosynthe.is ge.e. in conce.t with othe., more.spe.ific re.rograde.signals.
