Potential use of Clerodendrum capitatum extracts and its formulation for control of three major stored product beetles

Objective:Insecticidal activity of Clerodendrum capitatum extracts against the stored product insect pest,Sitophilus oryzae(L.),Rhyzopertha dominica(F.),and Tribolium castaneum(Herbst)were *** and Methods:Hundred grams of *** powder was sequentially extracted with a series of solvents of increasing polarity in a Soxhlet apparatus and the extracts were concentrated on rotary evaporator to make it solvent free and the residue dissolved in a known volume of methanol and the solution was assayed for insecticidal activity by the fumigant *** extract which showed maximum activity was selected for the preparation of herbal formulation and for its insecticidal properties and *** herbal formulation obtained from leaves of *** was investigated by GCMS and GC/***:Clerodendrum capitatum ethyl extract had a very strong repellent activity to adults of all three major stored grain insects and was significantly repellent at a 1.58 mg/cm^(2).The hexane extract(oil)had high fumigant activity with LC_(50) values in the range between 25 and 32μg/L.A total of 14 components representing 97.8%of the formulation were identified and the main compounds in the formulation were found to be 2-Heptanone,3-methyl(33.9%)and Hexahydrofarnesyl acetone(25.3%)followed by 3-Dodecen-1-al(10.2%)and 8-Methyl-1-undecene(4.9%).Further,herbal formulation was found to be highly toxic to mixed age cultures of all three major stored grain insect pests which recorded 80%-90%mortality at dose of 200μg/L in 24 h exposure,where as 100%mortality achieved at dose of 200μg/L in 72 h exposure,***:The results indicate that extracts and formulation of *** has the potential to be developed in to a natural insecticide or repellent for controlling of stored product beetles.

Pedestrian risk analysis at uncontrolled midblock and unsignalised intersections

Transportation is defined as port to port transfer of person or goods by a medium which can be a vehicle or a person. Pedestrians being the most neglected mode of transportation in terms of safety and facility, face difficult situations while crossing near intersections and midblock crossings. It becomes more of a risk when the place of crossing is *** if behaviour of pedestrians while crossing is analysed in such conditions, it might be possible to create suitable solution to lessen the risk and ensure safety. In most of the cities, accepting suitable gaps between vehicles in uncontrolled midblock and intersection crossings pose threat to pedestrians＇ safety. The present study examines the safety of pedestrian crossing behaviour at midblock and unsignalised intersection *** time, speed, stages of crossing, number of interruptions while crossing, and the type of vehicles for which pedestrians accept the gap were extracted from the video. The tendency to show rolling gap behavior was observed and examined for different age and gender groups to analyse the risk involved in such type of crossings. The risks analysed from the study in correlation with the pedestrian demand in such uncontrolled crossings will help in design of safer pedestrian facilities. It was observed that the size of the vehicle has a significant influence on gap acceptance and crossing behaviour of pedestrians. Male pedestrians take more risks than female pedestrians in crossing unsignalized intersections. Middle aged pedestrian category poses 60.1% more chances of interrupted crossing than the other elder and young age categories of pedestrians. Male pedestrian category and the middle aged pedestrian category are more tended to accept the smallest gap between the vehicles showing a risky nature of crossing.

Improvements in tropical cyclone forecasting through ensemble prediction system at NCMRWF in India

This paper deals with the comparison of cyclone forecasts from the two versions of the operational global ensemble prediction system(EPS)at the National Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasting(NEPS).The previous version had a horizontal resolution of 33 km with 44 ensemble members(NEPS)whereas the updated version of this EPS has a resolution of 12 km with 11 members(NEPS-UP).The ensemble mean forecasts from both the models are compared using the direct position(DPE),along(ATE)and cross track(CTE)*** the verification of strike probability,Brier Score(BS),Brier Skill Score(BSS),Reliability Diagram,Relative Operating Characteristic(ROC)Curve and Root Mean Square Error(RMSE)in mean Vs Spread in members are *** verification of intensity,RMSE in maximum wind speed from the ensemble mean forecasts are *** of ensemble mean tracks from both models showed lower errors in NEPS-UP for all forecast lead *** decrease in the DPE,ATE and CTE in NEPS-UP was around 38%,48%and 15%***-UP showed lower BS and higher BSS values indicating a better match between observed frequencies and forecast probabilities as well as higher prediction *** reliability diagram showed higher accuracy for NEPS-UP as compared to *** ROC curves showed that for forecasts with higher probabilities the hit rate was high in *** was a greater consensus between the RMSE and Spread for NEPS-UP at all lead *** was also seen that the RMSE in mean showed a 41%decrease from NEPS to *** comparing maximum wind,it was found that for all lead times the RMSE in maximum wind speed for NEPS-UP was lower than NEPS.
