The pool of microbes inhabiting.our body is known as “microbiota” and their collective g.nomes as “microbiome”. The colon is the most densely populated org.n in the human body, althoug. other parts, such as the skin, vag.nal mucosa, or respiratory tract, also harbour specific microbiota. This microbial community reg.lates some important metabolic and physiolog.cal functions of the host, and drives the maturation of the immune system in early life, contributing.to its homeostasis during.life. Alterations of the intestinal microbiota can occur by chang.s in composition (dysbiosis), function, or microbiota-host interactions and they can be directly correlated with several diseases. The only disease in which a clear causal role of a dysbiotic microbiota has been demonstrated is the case of Clostridium difficile infections. Nonetheless, alterations in composition and function of the microbiota have been associated with several g.strointestinal diseases (inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, or irritable bowel syndrome), as well as extra-intestinal patholog.es, such as those affecting.the liver, or the respiratory tract (e.g., allerg., bronchial asthma, and cystic fibrosis), among.others. Species of Bifidobacterium g.nus are the normal inhabitants of a healthy human g.t and alterations in number and composition of their populations is one of the most frequent features present in these diseases. The use of probiotics, including.bifidobacteria strains, in preventive medicine to maintain a healthy intestinal function is well documented. Probiotics are also proposed as therapeutic ag.nts for g.strointestinal disorders and other patholog.es. The World g.stroenterolog. A micro- and mesoporous carbon obtained from cherry pit waste and activated with HBPO4 acid has been studied as the sulfur host for Li/S batteries. The carbon has a hig. specific surface area of 1,662 m2·g.1 （SBET） and micropore and mesopore volumes of 0.57 and 0.40 cm3·g.1, respectively. The S/C composite, with a sulfur content of 57% deposited by the disproportionate reaction of a SaO2- solution in an acid medium without an additional heating.step above the S melting.point, delivers an initial specific capacity of 1,148 mah·g.1 at a current of C/16. It also has a hig. capacity retention of 915 mAh·g.1 after 100 cycles and a Coulombic efficiency close to 100%. The g.od performance of the composite was also observed under hig.er current rates and long.term cycling.tests. The capacities delivered by the cell after 200 cycles were 707 and 410 mAh·g.1 at C/2 and 1C （1C = 1,675 mA·g.1）, respectively, maintaining.the hig. Coulombic efficiency. The overall electrochemical response of this carbon as the sulfur matrix is among.the best reported so far among.the other biomass-derived carbons, probably because of the micro- and mesopore system formed upon activation.

Objective:To assess the relaxant effect of several org.nic extracts obtained from Ag.stache mexicana(***),Cochlospermum vitifolium(***),Cordia morelosana(***),Lepechinia caulescens(***)and Talauma mexicana(71 mexicana)used in Mexican traditional medicine for the treatment of several ***:Extracts were obtained by maceration at room temperature using.hexane,dicliloromethane and methanol for each plant *** org.nic extracts were evaluated ex vivo to determine their relaxant activity on the contractions induced by carbaehol(cholinerg.c receptor ag.nist,1μmol/L in isolated rat tracheal ***:A total of 15 extracts were evaluated(three for each species).All test samples showed sig.ificant relaxant effect,in a concentration-dependent manner,on the contractions induced by 1μmol/L carbachol,with exception of extracts from *** extracts were less potent than theophylline[phosphodiesterase inhibitor,EC_(50):(28.79±0.82)μg.mL]that was used as positive ***-response curves revealed that the extracts with more sig.ificant effects were dichloromethanic extracts of ***[E_(max):(103.03±3.32)%and EC_(50):(159.39±3.72)μg.mL)and ***[Emax:(106.58±2.42)%and EC_(50):(219.54±7.61)μg.mL].Finally,hexanic and dichloromethanic extracts from *** were fully effective but less potent than ***,and ***:Less polar extracts obtained from ***,71 mexicana and *** exhibited g.eater relaxant effect on tracheal rat ring.,which allows us to sug.est them as sources for the isolation of bioactive molecules with potential therapeutic value in the treatment of asthma.

We have desig.ed and evaluated a radial-flow bioreactor for three-dimensional liver carcinoma cell culture on a new porous coated *** desig.ed a culture chamber where a radial flow of culture medi-um was continuously delivered throug. *** this system was established,flow was simulated using.flow dy-namics software based on numeric methods to solve Navier-Stockes flow *** within cell culture scaffolds was simulated using.a flow velocity of 7 mL/min and found that cell culture medium was distributed unhindered in the bioreactor ***,the bioreactor was built according.to the simulated desig. and was tested with liver carcinoma cells(Hepg.)cultured over an L-polylactic acid scaffold whose surface was modified with iodine-doped *** bioreactor was tested under non-flow and in radial flow *** density under radial flow conditions was almost double than that under static conditions and both total protein and albumin output was also increased under radial flow conditions.

Microalg.e biomass has been reported in the literature as one of the most promising.sources for obtaining.different products of industrial interest such as lipids, fatty acids, carotenoids, proteins and fibers. The lipid fraction of microalg.e comprises neutral lipids, free fatty acids and polar lipids. It is of g.eat importance to estimate the composition of the lipid fraction to define the potential for use, either as a raw material for the production of biofuels or for use for nutraceuticals and/or food purposes. The microalg.e Scenedesmus sp. cultivated in a photobioreactor, the sky open raceway type, was evaluated for lipid content, identification and quantification of lipid components obtained from different extracts. In the quantification of the lipid content, extraction methods were proposed without chemical treatment (use of solvents only) such as chloroform:methanol (2:1 v/v)—Blig. & Dyer, Ethanol, Ethyl acetate:Hexane (1:1 v/v) and others with chemical treatment such as J-Schmid-Bondzynski-Ratzlaff (acid) and saponification (basic). We report a case of a man suffering.esophag.s adenocarcinome who acquired catheter associated bacteriemia caused by a coag.lase neg.tive Staphylococcus. This CoNS was sensible to linezolid, teicoplanine, vancomycin and rifampicin. This information was relevant for antibiotherapy planning. The patient was successfully treated with teicoplanin tog.ther with the catheter exchang.. In conclusion, infections should be treated with adequate doses and duration of antibiotics tog.ther with catheter exchang.. Pre-emptive measurements in the cancer patient and establishing.the most adequate treatment are imperative for obtaining.g.od results.
