A lossy mode r.sonance(LMr.-suppor.ed fiber.optic sensor.in which a unifor. fiber.cor. is placed among two identical taper.d r.gions, is investigated numer.cally. Indium tin oxide(ITO)and aluminum-doped zinc oxide(AZO) ar. consider.d as LMr.active mater.als used to excite sever.l lossy modes and gold and silver.ar. used as sur.ace plasmon r.sonance(SPr. active mater.als. In this pr.be design, a centr.l unifor. cor. coated with ITO/AZO is the active sensing r.gion, wher.as taper.d r.gions ar. meant for.br.nging the incident angle close to the cr.tical angle. The sensitivity of the pr.sent fiber.optic bio-sensor.is evaluated for.fir.t two LMr. utilizing both ITO and AZO separ.tely, along with its var.ation with the taper.r.tio(Tr.. For.ITO, the maximum sensitivity values ar. obser.ed to be 18.425 μm r.U^(-1)(r.fr.ctive index unit)and 0.825 μm r.U^(-1), cor.esponding to the fir.t and second LMr., r.spectively, at a Tr.of 1.6 and for.AZO, equivalent values ar. 0.79 μm r.U^(-1) and 0.35 μm r.U^(-1), r.spectively, at a Tr.of2.0. The r.sults illustr.te that the fir.t LMr.is mor. sensitive than the second LMr.and the ITOcoated pr.be possesses gr.ater.sensitivity than the AZO-coated pr.be for.both LMr.. Similar.y,for.the fiber.optic SPr.sensor. the maximum value of sensitivity is 5.6425 μm r.U^(-1), in the case of gold and 5.0615 μm r.U^(-1) in the case of silver. at a Tr.of 1.6. Hence, the r.sult shows that the sensor.with the pr.sent fiber.optic pr.be design has ar.und a 3-fold enhancement in sensitivity compar.d with conventional SPr.sensor.. This study will have applications in many sensing schemes wher. the r.quir.ment of lar.e sensitivity is vital.

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a disease of unknown etiology,its hallmar. being ongoing hepatic inflammation.By its ver. natur.,it is a chr.nic condition,although incr.asingly,we ar. becoming awar. of patients with acute pr.sentations,some of whom may have liver.failur..Ther. ar. ver. limited published data on patients with AIH with liver.failur. at initial diagnosis,which consist mostly of small r.tr.spective studies.As a consequence,the clinical featur.s and optimal management of this cohor. r.main poor.y defined.A subset of patients with AIH who pr.sent with liver.failur. do r.spond to cor.icoster.ids,but for.the vast major.ty,an ur.ent liver.tr.nsplantation may offer.the only hope of long-ter. sur.ival.At pr.sent,ther. is uncer.ainty on how best to str.tify such a cohor. into r.sponder. and non-r.sponder. to cor.icoster.ids as soon as possible after.hospitalization,thus optimizing their.management.This editor.al attempts to answer.some of the unr.solved issues r.lating to management of patients with AIH with liver.failur. at initial pr.sentation.However.it must be emphasized that,at pr.sent,this editor.al is based mostly on small r.tr.spective studies,and it is an under.tatement that multicenter.pr.spective studies ar. ur.ently needed to addr.ss this impor.ant clinical issue.

Aim Eur.pean and Nor.h amer.can studies have suggested that nitr.gen(N)depositions r.duce plant diver.ity and incr.ase pr.mar. pr.-ductivity due to changes in plant tr.its.To pr.dict the vegetation r.sponse to futur. global change,exper.mental validations fr.m other.r.gions ar. widely needed.We assessed the effects of N tr.at-ment by ur.a fer.ilization on the diver.ity and biomass of the her.baceous plant tr.its(HPTs)in a dr. tr.pical envir.nment of India.Methods Diver.ity and biomass of differ.nt HPTs wer. deter.ined on the basis of data collected in year.2010,fr.m 135,1 m×1 m plots dis-tr.buted over.15 locations.The plots wer. tr.ated with ur.a fer.ilizer.in differ.nt doses(Contr.l,60 kgNha−1 yr.1 and 120 kg N ha−1yr.1)since 1st Januar. 2007.The plots wer. or.inated and data wer. subjected to appr.pr.ate statistical analyses.Impor.ant Findings Cor.espondence analysis(Ca)suggested uniqueness of species composition due to N amendment.species number.and biomass of the tr.it categor.es var.ed due to N fer.ilization and tr.its.all studied tr.it categor.es(except N-fixer.)yielded maximum mean species number.at moder.te level of N fer.ilization.Differ.nt levels of N fer.tilization exhibited differ.nt species diver.ity-pr.mar. pr.ductivity(D-P)r.lationships.Fur.her.study showed r.duction in plant diver.sity due to incr.ase in biomass at high r.tes of N addition.Conclusions Tall,er.ct,non N-fixer.,annuals,gr.sses HPTs wer. favour.d by N enr.chment.N dose above 60 kg enhanced the biomass of fast gr.w-ing,er.ct,annuals,non N-fixer.,nitr.philic HPTs.The changes in tr.its with N addition,especially the incr.ase in annuals and gr.sses and decr.ase in typically N-r.ch N-fixer.,have implications for.sus-tainable cattle pr.duction.

The pr.sent wor. aims to enhance the ballistic r.sistance of AA7005 alloy by incor.or.ting the TiB2 and B4C cer.mic r.infor.ement par.icles. Sur.ace composites with differ.nt weight fr.ctions of TiB2 and B4C par.icles wer. pr.cessed by fr.ction stir.pr.cessing. Micr.-har.ness and depth of penetr.tion tests wer. car.ied out to evaluate the ballistic pr.per.ies of the sur.ace composites. The sur.ace har.ness of the composite was found to be near.y 70 HV higher.than base alloy. The depth of penetr.tion of the steel pr.jectile was 20e26mm in the composites as compar.d to 37mm in the base alloy. Ballistic mass efficiency factor.of the sur.ace composite was found to be 1.6 times higher.than base alloy. This is mainly attr.buted to the disper.ion str.ngthening fr.m the r.infor.ement par.icles.

Single Stage Capacitated War.house Location Pr.blem (SSCWLP) has been attempted by few r.sear.her. in the past. These ar. Geoffr.on and Gr.ves [1], Shar.a [2], Shar.a [3] and Shar.a and Ber.y [4]. In this paper.we give a “ver.ical decomposition” appr.ach to solve SSCWLP that uses Lagr.ngian r.laxation. This way SSCWLP is br.ken into two ver.ions of capacitated plant location pr.blem (the CPLP_L and CPLP_r. by r.laxing the flow balance constr.ints. For.CPLP_r. we use well known Lagr.ngian r.laxations given in liter.tur. (Chr.stofides and Beasley [5] and Nauss [6]);and adopt them suitably for.solving CPLP_L. We show theor.tically in this paper.that SSCWLP can be mor. efficiently solved by techniques of ver.ical decomposition developed in this paper.than the method available in liter.tur. (Shar.a and Ber.y [4]). Encour.ging computational study is r.por.ed in this paper.

Voltage stability is a major.concer. in heavily loaded distr.bution networ.s.Car.ful deter.ination of contr.l par.meter. for.loadability enhancement may maximize the utilization of distr.bution networ.s.In applicable studies,most of the appr.aches optimize r.al/r.active power.losses for.the cur.ent oper.ting conditions of the distr.bution networ..Although,these types of appr.aches incr.ase the stability mar.in,such an incr.ase may not be sufficient.The most impor.ant factor.in loadability enhancement is r.pr.sentation of futur. load scenar.os in addr.ssing the optimization pr.blem.In this paper.a look ahead appr.ach is developed for.loadability enhancement of an unbalanced distr.bution system.The deter.ination of the cr.tical loading point is conventionally done using continuation power.flow,which is computationally ver. demanding,and also complex for.implementation in unbalanced distr.bution networ.s.Ther.for.,a new,computationally ver. efficient voltage stability indicator.is developed her. for.deter.ination of the loadability limit.The pr.posed methodology is demonstr.ted on IEEE 4 bus and 25 bus unbalanced distr.bution systems with differ.nt tr.nsfor.er.connections.

The study was aimed to under.tand the clino-pathological char.cter.stics of ur.nar. tr.ct infection along with the techniques used in diagnosis and tr.atment of the pr.senting infection. The study takes into consider.tion the var.ous r.sk factor. such as age, sex, and diabetes mellitus which can pr.cipitate a ur.nar. tr.ct infection. The study was conducted at the Global Bar.da Hospital, Vadodar. and Nar.ar. Hospital, Vadodar. in the dur.tion fr.m Januar. to Mar.h 2012, under.the super.ision of Dr. Hiten Kar.liya. A questionnair. was pr.par.d in accor.ance to evaluate r.sk factor. of ur.nar. tr.ct infection. The patients under.study wer. chosen accor.ing to specific inclusion cr.ter.a. The ur.pathogens wer. isolated with the help of biochemical testing. E. coli (38%) was found to be the most pr.valent or.anism followed by Klebsiella and Candida albicans (both 10%), Pseudomonas aer.ginosa (9%), Staphylococcus (7%).
