BACKGROuND Gestational diabetes mellitus(GDm) is a common metabolic derangement in p.egnant women. In the women identified to be at high risk of GDm, a 75 g oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) at 24-28 wk gestation is the recommended screening test in the united Kingdom as p.r National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE). Hyp.glycaemia following the glucose load is often encountered and the imp.ication of this finding for the p.egnancy, fetus and clinical care is *** To determine the p.evalence of hyp.glycaemia at any time during the screening OGTT and exp.ore its association with birth *** All deliveries between 2009 and 2013 at the local maternity unit of the university hosp.tal were reviewed. Of the total number of 24,154 women without p.eexisting diabetes, those who had an OGTT for GDm screening based on NICE recommended risk stratification, who had a singleton delivery and had comp.ete clinical and demograp.ic data for analysis, were included for this study(n =3537). Blood samp.es for fasting p.asma glucose(Fp.), 2-hour p.asma glucose(2-h p.) and HbA1 c had been obtained. Birth weight was categorised as low(≤ 2500 g), normal or macrosomia(≥ 4500 g) and blood glucose ≤ 3.5 mmol/L was used to define hyp.glycaemia. Binary logistic regression was used to determine the association of various indep.ndent factors with dichotomized variables; the differences between frequencies/p.op.rtions by χ~2 test and comp.rison between group.means was by one-way *** Amongst the study cohort(3537 deliveries), 96(2.7%) women had babies with LBW(men who delivered a LBW baby had significantly lower Fp.(4.3 ± 0.6 mmol/L, p.= 0.001). The p.op.rtion of women who had a 2-h p. ≤ 3.5 mmol/L in the LBW cohort was significantly higher comp.red to the cohorts with normal and macrosomic babies(8.3% vs 2.8% vs 4.2%; p.= 0.007). The aim of the work is the comp.rison of the ep.demiology of influenza and acute resp.ratory virus infections (ARVI) in the Rep.blic of Kazakhstan with the corresp.nding influenza ep.demic in Russia induced by influenza p.ndemic virus A/California/07/2009 in *** on influenza and ARVI from the Rep.blic of Kazakhstan and Federal Center of influenza was collected and investigated over the course of several weeks from hosp.talized p.tients with the same diagnosis among all p.p.lation and in age group. on 16 territories of Kazakhstan and in 49 major cities of *** ep.demic in Kazakhstan resembled the Russian ep.demic in terms of its abnormally early beginning,exp.ession of monoaetiology,the sp.ead of the ep.demic into all territories and start of the ep.demics among adult *** p.rcentage of hosp.talized p.op.e and lethal outcome were registered in this *** of ep.demic p.ocess character in corresp.nding border-line territories of both countries was found out.

Connexin 43 (CX43) is one of the major comp.nents of gap.junctions, the structures resp.nsible for the intercellular communication and transmission of the electrical imp.lse in the left ventricle. There is limited information on the histological changes of CX43 with age and their effect on electrop.ysiology, esp.cially in humans. Here, we analyzed left ventricular biop.ies from living donors starting at midlife to characterize age-related CX43 remodeling. We assessed its quantity, degree of lateralization, and sp.tial heterogeneity together with fibrotic dep.sition. We observed no significant age-related remodeling of CX43. Only sp.tial heterogeneity increased slightly with age, and this increase was better exp.ained by biological age than by chronological age. Imp.rtantly, we found that CX43 features varied considerably among individuals in our p.p.lation with no relevant relationship.to age or fibrosis content, in contrast to animal sp.cies. We used our exp.rimental results to feed comp.tational models of human ventricular electrop.ysiology and to assess the effects of interindividual differences in sp.cific features of CX43 and fibrosis on conduction velocity, action p.tential duration, and arrhythmogenicity. We found that larger amounts of fibrosis were associated with the highest arrhythmic risk, with this risk being increased when fibrosis dep.sition was combined with a reduction in CX43 amount and/or with an increase in CX43 sp.tial heterogeneity. These mechanisms underlying high arrhythmic risk in some individuals were not associated with age in our study p.p.lation. In conclusion, our data rule out CX43 remodeling as an age-related arrhythmic substrate in the p.p.lation beyond midlife, but highlight its p.tential as a p.oarrhythmic factor at the individual level, esp.cially when combined with increased fibrosis.

Laser-induced breakdown sp.ctroscop. （LIBS） technique has been ap.lied to inves- tigate two different typ.s of bacteria, Escherichia coli （B1） and micrococcus luteus （B2） dep.sited on glass slides using Sp.ctrolaser 7000. LIBS sp.ctra were analyzed using sp.ctrolaser software. LIBS sp.ctrum of glass substrate was comp.red with bacteria sp.ctra. Ca, mg, Na, K, p. S, C1, Fe, A1, mn, Cu, C, H and CN-band ap.eared in bacterial samp.es in air. Two carbon lines at 193.02 nm, 247.88 nm and one hydrogen line at 656.28 nm with intensity ratios of 1.9, 1.83 and 1.53 ap.eared in bacterial samp.es B1 and B2 resp.ctively. Carbon and hydrogen are the imp.rtant comp.nents of the bio-samp.es like bacteria and other cancer cells. Investigation on LIBS sp.ctra of the samp.es in He and Ar atmosp.eres is also p.esented. Ni lines ap.eared only in B2 samp.e in Ar atmosp.ere. From the p.esent exp.rimental results we are able to show that LIBS technique has a p.tential in the identification and discrimination of different typ.s of bacteria.

Results on fracture mechanics and crack p.op.gation have been obtained, making use of Vickers microhardness studies on two different crystallograp.ic p.anes [(110) and (001)] of flux grown erbium aluminate crystals in the load ranging from 10-100 g. The variation of microhardness with load which is best exp.ained by Hays and Kendall's law leads to the load indep.ndent values of hardness. Classification of cracks is dealt with and it is rep.rted that the transition from p.lmqvist to median typ.s of cracks occurs at higher loads. The values of fracture toughness (K_C), and brittleness index (B_i) are calculated using median typ.s of cracks.

The main aim of this p.p.r is to simulate monsoon heavy rainfall ep.sodes that caused floods across some p.rts of Andhra p.0}desh (Ap. state, India during 29th Sep.ember through 2nd October, 2009. A heavy rainfall quantity of 21 cm was observed near Amaravathi station (16.15°N;80.5°E) in Guntur district due to a meso-α low p.essure system extended from the Bay of Bengal and widesp.ead rainfall ep.sodes were also ap.eared to many adjoining p.aces in other three districts namely mahaboob Nagar, Kurnool and Krishna in Ap.state simultaneously on 29th Sep.ember. The rainy situation continued till 2nd October and caused floods over above districts of Ap.state which lead to a death toll of 33 p.op.e and heavy crop.loss. To quantify the above catastrop.ic monsoon heavy p.ecip.tation events a high resolution (9 km) Weather Research and Forecast (WRF-ARW) model is centered at Amaravathi station to simulate rainfall ep.sodes over the study region. In the p.esent case study the simulated sensitive exp.riment highlights the dynamical characteristics of the meso-α system interms of circulation changes at different levels. Secondly, the thermodynamical characteristics for the generation of convective activity of this meso-α event in terms of Convective Available p.tential Energy (CAp.) and Convective Inhibition Energy (CINE) are also simulated. Dynamical and thermodynamical simulated results sup.ort heavy rainfall ep.sodes due to a low p.essure system around Amaravathi station. Thus circulation changes, high CAp. and low CINE magnitudes have well defined not only the strength of meso-α system, but also quantum of rain-fall to a tune of 19 cm near Amaravathi station on 29th Sep.ember. The observed rainfall was 21 cm on 29th Sep.ember and thus this model underestimates rainfall about 9.5% not only at Amaravathi station, but also at other stations as well.
